For the stage show I know that Velma is considered "leading" actress. Is Roxie considered "featured"/"supporting" actress or is she "leading" too? In the film version, Zeta Jones won the Oscar for "supporting" actress...interesting
@fountainchain126 the movie made velma a smaller character then she really is, they made a lot of cuts to songs...because hollywood is like Broadway's younger, much dumber brother who got the trust fund.
I saw the Broadway performance on this day (6/1/97). It was a Sunday matinee before the Tony awards. We waited outside the theatre to watch them leave (but only stayed long enough for Joel Grey, who was the first to leave). I finally saw it again last night after all these years (and already saw the movie). I have to say nothing compares to this original revival Broadway cast! Not that I didn't enjoy last night, but Ann Reinking is an unbeatable Roxie (who really is the star of the show).
I like how the music starts to sound like an old record at some point!
And I hate this, but the movie is WAY better. Not a fan of either of their performances. I mean of the actresses in this revival

I agree, something about Bebe's voice just gets on my nerves, which is SAYING something because I LIKE Fran Drescher's voice.
