Will always be my girl. Rickie Lee is part of my DNA, I know it. I can buy a CD, But knowing people are sharing, is beyond words. This is what human nature is meant to be. ......
Probably the only female vocalist who could join Steely Dan and make a valuable contribution. If they ask for someone with experience with their type of musical approach -- play this album and let Rickie Lee go to the front of the line.
If I remember correctly, she was a prodigy of Tom Waits, another all time favorite of mine. It seems to me artists like them were never into it for the money or fame, but because they had a gift to share, and that was more important. Joanie Mitchell, Carol King - Rickie Lee ranks up there with them in terms of talent, just not fame.
We were watching Rickie during one of her concerts. She was just sitting on the stool, singing "Chuck E.", EVERYbody in the room just lovin' it...when my 12 year old niece walks in, stops, stares...and then blurts out "That's stupid...she isn't even dancing!" I weep for todays youth!
@tew8197 - Hey: I know exactly what you're sayin'. What passes for music today is beyond me; it seems that many youngsters are unwilling to appreciate an acoustic performance.
Rickie won a grammy for Best New Artist. I know what you mean CUBALAW, that she didn't become a superstar--but she was a star. Rickie spent a lot of time in Europe. Probably she was happy with the level of fame she had--I'm just guessing. Another artist, also unique, and one of my faves is Lotti Golden. She's less known than Rickie, but wonderful as well.
So smoothy wavy cool times of the 70's. Oh it's never gonna be the same. We understand her groove. This was our favourite song. She was our star. Thanks for posting QuinhoMaluku!
This song is very difficult to cover and make sound even half as good as Rickie's original. I think I'll just give up. ha, ha. There are some songs ya just shouldn't try to replicate. This is one of them.
Why did WMG reverse the cover image when it recently reissued & remastered the CD version of RLJ's S/T debut LP? That pisses me off. It devalues the album.
i cant remember what year or when this came out i just know this song has been in my mind since i was a kid and ive remember the words through adulthood yes im blk. we do go beyond rnb
Love, love, loved this album when it first came out - and played it til the grooves were too deep to play, then got another one. Still love the quirky Ms. Jones today! Great song. So many wonderful memories of that time!
