There was sand on the road, and he simply went in too fast. The co-driver clearly reports the sand, and you can see it in the curve just before the crash.

Nice driving -- I'm must admit I was almost incredulous when seeing the times Kimi was managing on that rally. I think that those kinds of mistakes are normal -- I think he is still adjusting to the pacenotes. Obviously, he wasn't pushing too hard, there weren't any "preliminary moments" (an odd tail slide out of a tight hook doesn't count) and still he was practically on the pace.
But... I don't see where this all is supposed to lead. He won't be a competitive pro in this game. Too old.
FUCK KIMI!!!!!!!!! Seriously, fastest guy on F1 grid, in a Ferrari, wins ONE championship then just doesn't FUCKING CARE!!! Then that spanish cunt ends up driving for Big Red.....and Kimi keeps on crashing in WRC....WTF too sad.
@0thecougar Um, okay. If Raikkonnen cared even a little and had worked on development rather than collecting a paycheck, it wouldn't have been a 'limping horse'. Alonso still didn't deserve his two titles, lots of FOM interference to get there which screwed over the the Scuderia, so him driving for Ferrari just doesn't sit right with a lot of Tuffosi. And you're confusing my comment with someone else's about the old part. I agree there's plenty of time left.
@Sen666neS well i don't believe laziness or lack of caring came into it. driving through the second half of last season-with his engineer saying ferrari had no right to be challenging mclaren for 3rd in the constructors championship shows he pushes no matter what.
by that stage ferrari boss (montezMole) had got alonso with his big bank sponsorship yet still kimi pushed.
although i don't get why he didn't make it down here to nz for the rally...???obviously not lack of funds....???
@ poll669 and @ Bristecom I disagree. Twisty and curvy roads yeah, but not half tarmac half gravel roads like these. Look at Corsica the roads are narrow and twisty but the tarmac is smooth same with rally France and Germany. I agree that the roads have to be challenging but not like these. cheers
@gogors4 the point of rally is to drive in the best and worst (and everything in between) if all they had was nice well kept roads then its would just be F1
wow the car slid just like a RWD car would not like a AWD . I bet the car hit a bump or got in one of those pot holes. I'm from Bulgaria and it is just embarrassing to watch the top drivers in the world to drive in such crappy conditions. Its such a let down because there are so many nice and PAVED mountain roads in Bulgaria, and they chose those shitty goat tracks. I would love for the WRC to come back next year but I'm 100% sure they wont.
@gogors4 I disagree. I think the dirty, bumpy roads really test the car's suspension and tires and make it more challenging for the drivers. Difficult conditions and roads is what makes rally unique and exciting. I hope they continue to use the same roads as they are in the future!

Mr Raikkonen u r lame Mr. u supposed to cut that not going out trees Mr That jump right before crash was big I dont get it what u hav done cuz speed was good i think. I dont want to know if u pulled handbrake before :) U got wrong line racer :) U always got outside not inside bent
@cichy187 Uh I think after 10 years of being in the highest level of motorsport, Kimi knows a lil more about racing lines than you my friend.. He goes on the outside so he can maintain speed and slingshot out of the corner to the next straight..

@Sen666neS very very funny. at least this year's red racer isn't as slow as the limping horse he had last year!
crashes will end. i think the pace notes will be the hardest thing to adjust to.
as for being to old to win at this??? wasn't seb loeb a world champion after only 7 years of racing FULL STOP. plenty of time left.

was it just me or did it sound like he was having some sort of car trouble right before the crash? like not being able to down-shift?

@thenuge88 I think it was just due to him braking to hard and locking all the wheels. I guess he just had his braking point too late for that corner.
