  • Who did the painting? Is that Eastman Johnson?

  • Never heard about Fred Van Eps berfore this. He is a genious at banjo playing no doubt about it. Very inspiring. Ragtime like only Blind Blake and he plays it

  • Wonderful!

  • thanks its a lovely track

  • so fred van eps was a black women?

  • @matebary Fred was most definitely a man, a prolific recording artist, played with Benny Good man, made banjos, had a very long and notable career, b.1878, d.1960.

  • @GilhamBob I should have mentioned Fred was a white guy, the picture here isn't him and may indeed depict a female player, but I think it's a handsome young man - whatever...

  • @GilhamBob Ragtime banjo, that's the roots for ragtime guitar

  • @matebary that's a woman for you ?

  • I found an early victor 78 of black diamond rag for 50 cents at an antique shop

  • Cela semble vraiment d'un autre temps !

C'est fou d'entendre un enregistrement qui date du début du XX ème siècle !

    Merci pour cette découverte !

  • @177coc Je vous en prie, ma chère Clara ;)

  • @RagtimeDorianHenry If you don't mind me asking, who is the African gentlemen in the picture, I don't believe that's fred van eps.....Thanks in advance.

  • @RealRockandRoll Hello ! This is not Fred Van Eps (he was white), but ' Le joueur de banjo '. An unknow banjo player painted in mid 19th century.

    Anyway, great picture !
