@jpdgmpdmpdmpdm The progression is A Ab D F# C# F# B E - A Ab D F E F B E. The E may actually sound like it should be a D, but that's because the guitars are playing a suspended 4th over the 5th. He's really playing the wrong progression in this video. The rest of the improv is mostly diatonic walking.
@CoolEditz I made a cover of the song on my page, trying to figure it out. Not really sure if i played E or B since i don't know any scales, and had just picked up the bass the day before i recorded that video.
@Chamomileable Did Phil always play with a pick? Cause I like to play Chinatown (for example) without pick and to me it soinds better. Ofcourse that could be because I am not good playing with pick :D
most of the Live videos you'll see will feature phil w/ a pick, in fact, pretty much every one i've ever seen. but by all means that doesn't mean you should only use one or the other, it's an implementation of miscellaneous preferences!
Great job man. I found this video looking for a cover trying to hear the bass timing better than on the recording. Helped a ton. Instant subscription! Good song choices as well, by the way.
so i looked up a tab and learned it but i think the guy who wrote it simplified the crap out of it, are you playing it exactly the way it is on the record? Or are you adding stuff?
Wow awesome job! I 'm learning it by ear too. How did you do or like how many times did you listen to the song to learn the bass part? I'm kinda' stuck. Thanx Much!
Sorry, I don't have any tabs for this, I just learned it by ear... there are lots of tabs for this song online though, and they're all pretty close I think.
Cool... Rosalie is a fun tune too. If you decide to use this video to learn the song, bear in mind it's not exactly how Phil plays it, but I think it sounds good with the rest of the song.
Thanks! I'm a big Phil Lynott fan myself. He had great vocal delivery and played very inventive bass melodies. I think my version is close to the real thing, but I don't read tabs very well so it's mostly by ear.
