this is brilliant but in order to achieve the full half live zombie slicing potential the blade cannot have handles because it stopped it going through the watermelon.
Man this is so awesome, your passion for slingshots is remarkable and gives birth to some deadly devices :))) I like to see passionate people. Keep up the good work, kind sir.
I would have designed it far far different, I would have kept the single rubber sling slightly modified with a steel U shaped bracket then I would have the launcher designed so it loads it wrapped around the back end in a curve with a guide rail so it whips it out with a spin instead of having the weighty dowels at the sides. If I had the time I bet I could design one that launches it at insane speeds.
Very good. Rather than a spin stabilised projectile, the blade becomes a gyroscopically stabilised projectile. There is great potential here for seriously increasing the range of the projectile. Try some fins for lift, trailing behind your axle and replace the saw blade with something less deadly but just as heavy. Let loose your creativity.
@davross600 Tested that, and no... sawblades lack the bowl like shape of the frisbee. If you throw them horizontally, they drift off to the side and downwards.
@JoergSprave Actually in my guess it has nothing to do with the shape of a frisbee, it's the wooden pegs that you have attached that are the reason it can't fly horizontally, it messes up the vertical rotational inertia.
The angular velocity (i.e. the speed of the spinning) is of course also very important, but if you can't make it spin faster you can just use larger discs for the same effect on the stability.
@davross600 Actually it is a physics thing. A rotating circular blade would tend to a vertical position. Thats why a coin can roll easily on the edge but it is difficult to place it on the edge while it is still.
@petcrazythemenniss Good question. This must be the only video on youtube that has an age limit, even though there is NO swearing, nudity or brutatlity. I guess the yt people simply don't like slingshots very much.
@petcrazythemenniss Well, I think neither should be flagged but to answer your question I'm sure that's because you can't really make a firearm in your backyard yet some kid may try and make this. I will again state, I think neither should be flagged or taken down.
LOL, I was glad to see a comment by Joerg recently. I have had horrible images of him with sawn off fingers or serated wounds on his face since we haven't seen a posting by him in recent weeks. Glad he is still able to type, at least. Circular saw blades are just dying to cut human flesh. :)
Two things. First. . . .I WANT TO SEE MORE DEMONSTRATIONS WITH THIS THING!
Second, Have you tried loading the blade in the other direction? It looks like, with the way you loaded it for the shots demonstrated here, that, when released, the blade would hit the rubber and actually be rotating backwards. Maybe this was attempted and it affected the stability of the blade in the air, I don't know, but it would give the blade greater cutting power if it were to be mounted this way.
Hey Joerg, have you ever thought about investing in a high speed camera, it may help the slowed down parts of your video look a little less grainy? Never the less, keep the videos coming, they are awesome.
@heino1989 A true hispeed pro grade cam is outrageously expensive. Even used ones from a few years back are waaaay above my hobby budget. But more and more TV companies are now showing up in order to make a piece about me, and these guys do have access to pro equipment. So who knows?
@JoergSprave I have a question for you. The sling-shots you make are very deadly and I would love to own one but is it legal to make such powerful "toys" (calling them toys cause they're still sling shots)
Joerg have you or can you make a slingshot where your legs are the frame and you lay down and pull back please? also can you please create flammable rounds? or exploding rounds? thank you and bye bye.
@TheFinalAdvent Well, if I would live in a country with no gun laws at all, I'd love to make guns at home and show them on youtube. FPSRussia is mostly shooting his guns, I'd be designing and making them. I have a few good ideas that I probably won't ever follow up, for legal reasons. So slingshots it is!
Is it possible to hollow the rounds you use out? I ask this because this would open the possibility of filling said balls with some sort of volatile substance that would explode/burn on contact. What I had in mind was a hollowed out steel round filled with thermite (homemade or otherwise) with some sort of contact detonator or something. If this isn't safe.physically possible (I know thermite needs a really high temperature to burn) but I'd just like to know/issue a challenge if safe/possible
Joe u crazy son of a gun ! u made crazy weapons .. this reminds me of the movie Predator when he shot people with that saw blade..im sure there must be a simpler way to shoot this ?
Maybe there is a way to make a dowel kind of cut in half and break at the end of "barrel"? but only in one direction, so it won't break while cocked. So that the only thing flying away would be sawblade and be able to cut through watermelon/head.
@JoergSprave good point, thanks. Just watched several of your other vids - fascinating! Have you done a video to show what level of accuracy you can achieve with a slingshot? It is plain that you have a passion for this subject, keep up the great work!
@mtbpozz I am accurate enough, but guys like Rufus Hussey (who passed away in '94), Bill Hays and Jeff Harris are the true masters of accuracy. Bill Hays can split a poker card in half, lengthwise, from 20 yards, easily.
Awesome! I think the next step in this particular model would be to find a way to have the "arms" in the dowel to detach. I'm sure the blade would have went through the watermelon if the dowel didn't stick out after it was fired.
