  • The VC-10 sounds like the Bac1-11 on steriods and a dose of viagra!!

  • I flew on these beauties 76-77 as a steward in the RAF. A 'standard' fuselage (with side loading door for freight/reinforced floor) with 'super' wings and tail. Awesome machine!

  • Great film, thanks for sharing

  • 1:20 . balls of titanium

  • Incredible why? I`ve seen so many take off/landings that they became boring.

  • Fabulous aircraft. In 1984, I flew to Ascension Island via Gambia on one of these. Awesome power and the most gentle landing that I have ever experienced by any aircraft.

  • interesting engine configuration. nevert seen quad rear on a subsonic plane before.

  • @akouzov Ilyushin 62 and the original Lockheed Jetstar are another couple of examples

  • (random fact that green hangar that can be seen from 5:57 to 6:02 houses Bernie Eccleston's car collection and the BAe 146 at the end is his private plane)

  • I'm going on dragons den with a kerosene air-freshener (3:09)

  • Brilliant footage of a gorgeous aeroplane. I have always been in love with the VC10. The old BOAC slogan was 'Try a little Ten-derness'. The smell and the noise came through the screen: intoxicating! I understand that they will be withdrawn from RAF service in the next couple of years. I was fortunate enough to travel in an East African Airways Super VC10 and a Gulf Air Standard VC10. The memories will last a lifetime. The Queen of the skies and there are tears in my eyes.

  • wonderful one

  • That was absolutely awesome, that is one aeroplane i would have loved to travel on,the nearest i got to it was a Boeing 707 436,also powered by those famous Rolls Royce Conways, that was way back in 1977 Brilliant thanks..........John

  • The VC10 took me to several conflicts and one brought me home from Uruguay after being injured in the Falklands conflict. A very comforting aircraft to be in - just feels very dependable and reliable. That's probably why the RAF kept them in service for so long.

  • wasn't this a British government jet or something like that?

  • Save time. The video starts at about 4:00.

  • esta bien el modelo de avion , el fuselage .... y todo eso solo le saco un pequeño detalle negativo :hecha mucho residuo gaseoso , pero por lo demas de fabula . suerte

  • @ViddyKJB what camera did you use for this?

  • NOT cool when you live 500 feet from the runway at Brize Norton and these things are taking off fulling loaded for refueling ops

  • @Starlight764 Brize Norton was there before any of the houses were. You probably also moved in knowing the Airport was active. Therefore, you have nothing to complain about.

  • @bmused55 hehe relax mate, I wasn't complaining I was reminiscing. Used to be a Medic, based at Brize from 98 to 02. Trying to sleep off a night shift was a problem :)

  • @bmused55 oh and its and RAF base, not an airport :)

  • How cool! I actually got to see one of these birds parked at Minneapolis in 2006. What an awesome airplane!

  • This just made my morning. I flew on this very aircraft (XV106) back in 1984, flying from Brize Norton to Decimomannu and Wildenrath. I was 14 years oldand in the ATC, my uncle was a sqn leader (10 Sqn), I took the jump seat all the way. Happy days.

  • Worlds most beautiful airliner - thanks for putting up a great video.

  • Damn what a beauty!

  • This can't be in England. I have been to England and it is not sunny. This has got to be in California.

  • @redbaroniii lol, I wouldn't exactly call it sunny!

  • @redbaroniii Yes, it is. Places in the US with far worse weather.

  • If you want to even more noise and smoke a J57 powered KC135A will do it-with 2/3 the power.

  • Comment removed

  • @58Vulcan - The KC135A powered by J57's is like a geriatric-cripple (in performance terms) compared to ANY Vickers VC.10 which has approx' TWICE AS MUCH POWER as any elderly 'standard' KC135A.

(& no, I'm NOT refering to the KC135-R)

Being a smoking-wanker DOESN'T make it any more impressive.

    (so, it's a lame-duck in direct comparison !)

The Vickers VC.10 = STILL HOLDS the fastest London to New-York crossing made by any other airliner-type (other than Concord} with good reason...

  • @lightning1975 The footage was shot both outside and inside at Biggin; notice the tannoys, the RAF chap talking us through the display and - the big giveaway - the landing. Two different days, two different locations...

  • @lightning1975 ; Bit daft that comment, coz guys who CAN afford quality cameras (i.e, me) will OFTEN tell you that OUTSIDE a show (i.e, Duxford) = WILL be condusive to (much) better pix. ~ If I had a pound for EVERY show I've PAID FOR & gone 'inside' since 1974, then I'd be smokin' around in a soft-top 350.SL Merc' (!) ~ so it's NEVER that guys like me WON'T support airshows = it's pure freedom of choice & dependant on whom I'm with on that actual day...

  • @lightning1975 i think im the only person to give you a thumbs up haha

  • as you can tell from the video it was very, very NOISEY!-corncrake-19

  • i was there that day at biggin hill when the vc-10 was on display and it was impressive i can tell you-corncrake-19

  • I got burnt really badly that day... VC-10 was good!

  • Great video of a classic beauty!

  • . . . . Shame it isnt "smell-o-vision" ! Fantastic video.

  • I grew up living beside Heathrow and always thought the VC-10 was a beautiful aircraft, even though she was very noisy (probably THE noisiest commercial airliner at the time). I still remember the BOAC VC-10 crash at Heathrow (i think in 1965) involving fatalities. So sad.

  • Beautiful design, but what a noisy pollution box, lol. 100 birds died of carbon monoxide poisons when that thing took off, lol.

  • Love the way she soots up the sky as he pours on the coals !!!

  • 2:57 FUCK HISTORY!

  • the most beautifull airliner, apart from concorde of course!

  • Fantastic aircraft, a true British classic.

  • @timber733

Oh realy? Do you know an Ilyushin-62?

  • @Shturmovick1 Yes I know the ll-62, I am familiar with many Russian aircraft civilian and military, I am a particular fan of the TU-154.

  • @Shturmovick1 Il-62 was bad copy of VC-10

  • CRAP SO NOISY UGLY DESIGN

  • Such a beautiful video, tainted only by the sound of an abused Harrier after the VC/10 has taken off.

  • I live in akrotiri cyprus, woke up every morning to that noise and even flew in it 2-3 times, :)

  • Good Job

    4 Engines at the Tail

  • Who the hell was the idiot walking in front of the camera as it was landing? Honestly! Just how many fucking VC-10 landings does he think are going to be left that he can casually walk away? I would have loved to have been there and sure as hell have watched the landing.

  • nice work. Still one of the sweetest looking aircraft, can,t be too many of these left flying

  • Nice vid mate. I like the commentator saying how the RAF pilots like flying the big aircraft like fighter jets...i had to laugh at that thanks for this vid mate.

  • Nice vid mate.

  • it incredable taht this plane is alble to fly

  • Ah, the glory days before they worried about burning every drop

  • who else heard the kid say fuck?

  • Fantastic aircraft!!!

  • You're right. The music of those four engines at takeoff power

beats any of the teenybopper trash music that is so sadly prevalent in youtube.

  • Music! Bloody Music!!

  • @AAHKLEE Hey you scared me. There is no topgun music on this video!

  • That's lots of kerosene !!

  • It reminds me of Thunderbirds.

  • wooo wooow and woooow

  • Thanks for sharing...

  • eny 1 notice the blades arnt spinning O_o

  • @tylerboyd11 Thats not the fan blades, those are stators.

  • @tylerboyd11 @flyinDPOD They're the IGV or Inlet Guide Vanes. Fitted to many older RR jet engines. The rotating fan disc is behind those :-)

  • those engines smell

  • Those bitches used to wake me up at quarter to ridicules in the morning when I was stationed at Brize!

  • better then sex !!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrCagivaman ~ Since you have time in the VC10 I wonder if you could answer another question? The VID (VC-10 flightdeck: full approach & landing" by "Christian 1213") shows the forward instrument panel on the "10" and it's quite different from the 4 engine A/C I've logged time on. Normally there is a 4X4 display for the four engines, EPR, EPR2 (or N1/N2), FF and EGT, but I noticed that's not the case with the VC-10 in this VID? Could you provide any comment on that observation, please?

  • @MrCagivaman ~ No Convair time although I certainly watched my share of them landing & taking off @ LAX in the very early years of the 1970's decade. I tried (by best) to fly the Concorde in the 70's (out of NYC) but the operators of the Concorde wouldn't extend standard interline discounts on their supersonic bird. Now days I spend my spare time flying the B737-800 using my Microsoft Flight Sim X. If a flt attendant ever comes out asking if "anyone can fly a 747?"

    I'm your man! :)

  • @MrCagivaman ~ I worked for a total of 5 airlines (JAL, Aero America, Swift, Comair & PSA between 1970 and 1995 and logged a total of 1,814,00 nautical miles to all 50 US states 34 countries. With JAL I was limited to the DC8F and B747 although I have 414,000 miles in B747 cockpit jumpseats and another 128,000 in DC8F cockpit jumpseats. I also have extensive time in the B707, B727, B737, B757, B767, DC9, DC10, L1011, Trident III, F27, Nord 262, DH114, Shorts 330, 360, and 24 other type A/C.

  • @MrCagivaman ~ Thank you! I worked at LAX (for JAL) during the entire decade of the 70's and the VC10 may well have been my favorite aircraft with BOAC operating the "10" into Los Angeles, at that time. A bit of disappointment though ~ with more than one million nautical miles flown, I never had the opportunity to fly on the VC10 or the Concorde.

  • @MrRonnieG You are most welcome. Thanks for the JAL info and you have certainly clocked up the miles !!!! Shame about the 10 and Concorde but you must have been in some classics ??? B707, DC8, maybe even a Convair 880 although I do not know if JAL operated them ?????

  • fantastic

  • i want one

  • Goodbye History Channel

  • I wish my wife was as pretty as a VC10.

  • Beauty.

  • Like for the sign getting ripped off on takeoff !

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that only the outboard engines are equipped with reverse thrust capability. Is that a good observation or am I just completely, totally and thoroughly wrong? :)

  • @MrRonnieG Yes, you have spotted that correctly. The standard VC10 had only 2 reversers but the Super had 4. The RAF version was a Hybrid in that it had fuel in the Fin, Super wings with the Super Chord Line Extension, an additional wing fence and Super Engines and Landing Gear, but still only the 2 Reversers. It was deemed un-necessary in 1964 and they seemed to have coped quite well. When I flew with them to most of our overseas bases, we always seemed to stop with out any bother !!!!!

  • When you listen to the spotters, they all love the smells, the noise, the looks. Why, then, dont they get a job on the things. I could do with a hand unblocking the bunged up toilet on the 737-800 currently in the hangar. So if you are a spotter in need of employment, get your mask and gloves on and call me in Hangar 10 Schipol Airport, Amsterdam. Thanks.

  • @MrCagivaman Bitter - so bitter! lol

  • WHAT a FUEL PIG and that fucking SMOG from that BIG CLUMP!!!

  • @vorevox You are in a minority here so FUCK OFF !!!!

  • Such an elegant Lady!

  • Fantastic plane and fantastic footage! I flew many times between US and UK in BOAC Super VC 10s, and it is still my favourite airliner. At the same time I also flew in plenty of Boeing 707s and DC 8s, they were no match.

  • EPIC VID MATE

  • last airshow at biggin hill :(

  • ::cough:: ::cough:: too much smoke.

  • Proud to have worked on them back in the late 70s! Still work very close to BZN so see them most days.

  • Great Vid thanks!

  • Now the fastest airliner in the world and queen of the skies!!

  • I've no idea what it was doing here, but a year or two ago I heard a distinctive roar, & looked up to see that distinctive whale tail & cluster of engines departing from Pierre Trudeau International here in Montreal.

Still an incredibly elegant aircraft, a true classic. I hope the RAF can keep flying them for many more years to come!

  • One of these flew over bristol airport a few days ago and god it was loud.

  • A great video Viddy. These magnificent aeroplanes are still a common sight at RAF Brize Norton. It's a pity the VC10's replacement will have quiet and smoke-free engines!

  • The VC-10 was a great aircraft - importantly with lots and lots of development potential. According to the Putnam book on 'Vickers' there was a VC-11 and a VC-12 on the drawing board. There was ample room at the rear to fit LARGE engines - the design could probably have accommodated a pair of RB211 turbofans.

So... what happened? The British aviation industry was obliged by the government to 'rationalise' & all effort was channelled in Concorde instead. The VC-10 could be said to be a casualty.

  • i was lucky enough to have one fly straight over me at quite low altitude the other day, it seemed to by doing a circuit of LBA. but the sound was stunning. this is probably my favorite plane. its such a shame it is being scrapped because they are truly the best British aircraft ever made imo.

  • Great footage; but there is always some twit who blocks your view at the crucial moment!

  • lol the banner came off

  • Oooooh Noooo the history channel banner! :)

  • Hi, Fantastic!!!! DID YOU PUNCH THE **^$!! who walked in to the picture!! I would have.

  • extreme landing

  • I think the VC-10 is one of the only fully-British aeroplanes left in our inventory, right? That's pretty sad...

  • VC10 and Super VC10, the most beautiful airliner of all time.

  • Ah...the VC-10. Remember her well. She was always taking Mick....in the wrong direction. :-)

  • The Poms are very good at making ugly aircraft aren't they !

  • @Dutchy1965 And the Australians are good at making NO aircraft. :)

  • @2491cc ...yes totally agree mate

  • @2491cc Australia did design and make the nomad in the 1970's but due to a serious structural problem they were all eventually scrapped. Some given to Indonesia but all now gone.

  • That's the way to do it! SOD the ozone layer . . .

  • WTF POLLUTION

    2 stroke engine??? haha LOL

  • One Beautiful machine.

  • This is just what we need to deliver £100million bombs on enemies of freedom. Yey Team America and Little Britain. We will show those uncivilized brown people how to become obedient consumers. Bomb the shit out of them! Our tax money has to get spent on something....right??

  • @HumanSayNo thats a refueling and transport aircraft

  • @TheF16luva - My bad....

  • I'd eat my left leg and my own testicles for a right in one of them.

  • Love it....i remember when i was 4 growing up with these at RAF St Athan. used to love going to see them in the hangar. I have live behind the wire with the RAF since brith (18 years) and i've loved every minute!

  • What a stylish and classy-looking aircraft. This and the Vulcan are the two aircraft I remember from my first-ever air day. Thanks for posting.

    3:00 coff coff splutter smile

  • iwas at biggin when she was displaying,, what a noisey but lovely old bird

  • I'll be flying a VC10Soon I hope

  • shit landing

  • Great vid plz sub me.

  • Hush Power.

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Amazing show!!!!Amazing video!!!Thanks

  • Simply brilliant. Thanks

  • @cadence33333 ive never actually seen a vc-10 take-off in real life, only on youtube. it's ashame that raf vc-10's don't do more airshows because i'd love to see one at the southend airshow :-)

  • Comment removed

  • The trees behind the runway were probably not too happy.

  • Glorious.

    What a great vid...*sighs*

    Thank you for uploading.

    **favorited**

  • THATS a vc10 dad WAKE UP DAD thats a VC10 at least your kiddie knows @4.36 wake up dad thats a VC10

  • Damn what a beautiful sound. Probably the loudest commercial jet ever. I think the Tu-154m and DC-10 have a better spool-up sound, but this thing sure is awesome.

  • @zenmachinefilms nope the loudest is the bac 111 :)

  • Flew from South Africa in a BOAC Super VC10 in 1971. Before air hijackings. Cockpit door open all the way, could see all the action up front. They were ruined as an international air liner, by, was it Ralph Nader?, in USA in a campaign against aircraft noise. They were no noisier than Boing or Douglas, but as they had such a distingtive silouette (and they were foreign) they got all the blame & had huge restrictions on them flying into US airports, so overseas airlines didnt buy them. Such a shame

  • @maxpatterson25 same here only in dec 73 from kenya via south africa .

  • Ah, yes, that cancer causing stench of jet exhaust! LOL.

  • wow awesome sadly no more days like this at biggin on the bump

  • Sounds like a jet fighter!

  • great video,i love those old aircraft.great sound!

  • no turbo fans here!!! Enjoyed that..thanks for that footage.

  • @ellomot0 The Conway was a Turbofan, in fact it was actually the first!

  • A unique sound ! Love it ...

  • LISTEN TO THAT BEAST.

    O

    M

    G

Long Live The RAF & The VC10!

...what i wouldn't give to fly one of them... :/

  • Imagine turning up for a date in that?

  • Absolutely gorgeous.

What a shame we're so strangled by the fukking fukking fukking EU and States. What morons have run our nation for so long now. Heartbreaking. Just look at her. And listen...

  • @rotator1471

As if! Empire building never was you Brits long suit! A great democratic power reduced to a sitcom of the House of Commons "Ask The Prim minister", showing on C-SPAN at 1:30 am (check your daily schedule)...Just sad...

  • ahhh...the joy of Conways........

  • I wish they would they would keep at least one VC-10,Concorde, and Nimrod MRA4 for flying display like the XH-558 Vulcan. Favorite British Aircraft.

  • @BBQFanNo1 If I win the Euro Millions, I'll do it.

  • VC10, what's there to say,

    WHAT A LEGEND!

You just know, when one of them fly's over, ( 3:35 ) and your against the RAF in a war, your bugged!

  • @minitrundle i Concur! :P WOOOO Go the RAF XD

  • To this day, she stirs my emotions like no other..

Just can't believe that we, as a nation, can't get our act together and reclaim the advances in technology and aviation that were ours... And squandered by the Bowler Hats..

What does anyone reckon a VC10 would have looked like if the Nimrod MRA4 Budget was spent on it??, Kick Ass i'd say!!

  • You LUCKY people!! I have been campaigning for years to get a flying VC10 display at RAF Leuchars, but no - if one is there it is only on static display. :( I don't think it will ever happen and I will NEVER get to see one of these beauties in person. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Who cares if your exhausts are smoky and your engines noisy??. You show 'em that no aircraft EVER will replace you.

Not Airbus, Not Boeing - not anything outside the UK - You are BRITISH.

Watching her fly makes me proud, nothng else does these days..

  • @strontiumdog19 Said it in a nutshell - welldone!

  • @strontiumdog19 - Agree with you mate. The VC10 was a stunning aircraft. I flew on one when I was a kid back in the late 60's.

  • @strontiumdog19

This baby took me for my first tour in Belize in 1984. Butcher Radar there used to mark all the landings, magic or cr**

Then watched them take off and land for four years at Brize Norton. A true Bristish Classic, shame we don't make classics anymore!!

    TSR2 to the air please!

What an airshow, Vulcan, Lightning, VC 10, Nimrod and of course the TSR 2.

  • @strontiumdog19 You do realise a substantial part of Airbus is British?

The wings for Airbus aircraft are designed and built in Britain, as are the Rolls Royce engines that many of them use...

  • @strontiumdog19 Oh get over yourself

  • "Beautiful smell"??

Never been inside a coffee shop I guess, a Dutch coffee shop that is..
