  • my favorite version

  • It is indeed Bobby Byrd singing with her. This was released as a 45 under the name "Momie-O"

  • Smif N Wessun, you bettah wreckognize!

  • is this Bobby Byrd singing with her?

  • Jet Life

  • Love It!! Thanks!!

  • WOW=]

  • big tune! JB's foreva !!!

  • lmao "im not chaka khan its viki anderson ..." too funny.

(well love, consider a different arrangement and key and there will be no doubt)

  • Must sample this one!

  • The male background vocalist sounds like Bobby Byrd. Does anyone know for

Sure? Marva Whitney was my favorite female vocalist that performed with

    James Brown.

  • As big a fan of James Brown that I am, I never ever liked her voice. It's way to shrilly to enjoy it. I read that Mr. Brown wanted her to sing that way and she hated it. Whatever the reason, I simply cannot enjoy anything she sings and every James Brown fan I know in my personal life seems to think the same way.

  • @PaulDA2000, I have to agree with you. He did like them shrill. As much as I love JB's music, IMHO, he had a very strange taste in female vocalists. Even when Tammi Terrell sang a song that he wrote (I Cried) , I would not have bought her record. However, when she started singing with Marvin Gaye, she was alright (I think that I concentrated on MG's voice).

  • OTIERRE- DALLA SEDE A VARESE +LA PINA....COME' ??? Cè Nè!!!!!!

  • Really very very good

  • Cool!

  • Awesome Vibes :) thank you Namaste :)(:

  • i think chaka heard this song and did her version. just my thoughts

  • @mjjcng8958 bobby womack wrote and sang it first, chaka sang it next then vickie...she even sings towards the end of the song that she's not chaka khan she's vickie anderson.

  • @jowersomega oh i know about bobby womack bing first i just didnt know which of the girl did it first

  • bobby womack song

  • no im 17 yrs old and excuse my langauge but this is my shiddddd!! this is vici anderson not CHAKA sh sung back up for james rown for those who dnt know!! 72 is the yr itcam out I think. May not been bron in that time but GOOD MUSIC S GOOD MUSIC !!

  • remember as a child going down Pacific Coast highway with mom and dad blasting and singing this....(tears) Peace to the true skool !!!

  • Sampled here: Otierre - Ce n'è

  • @andreacorte Ce n'è!!!!! :)

  • Awesome picture.

  • I was looking for Rufus & Chaka's version to go on my Doubles playlist with Bobby Womack & found this one. IT's Good.

  • @shelovesrb7777 I appreciate this one as well ... I like Rufus' and this one. This one has a different texture to it .... rougher.... Rufus' is Jazzier.... and Both of them i enjoy better than Womack's. Chaka's version is effortless as this is her own restyling. Vicki had to reach on a few notes but she got there .. LOL

  • excellent good

  • She's right . . . she's not Chaka Khan.

  • Mizz Vicki was Mrs.BobbyByrd in private life. They made beautiful music on and off the set.

  • Um....Of course! I am Chaka's BIGGEST fan, but UM! Who in the HELL! Would compare THIS version to THAT ONE!?!?!? Just BE REAL???I don't liek the off beatness they have going on and it sounds like it's rushed and was not well organized...No good! COMPARED! To Rufus's version...sorry

  • Raw class!

  • I can't get this out of my head. I like this version- thanks for posting

  • Ya'll CrAzY!!......You know dog-on well NOBODY....and I mean nobody can do it like Rufus! Chaka's vocals are not to be reckoned with!......stop playin'.

  • @blackboy30 CHAKA is my favorite singer in this and any other universe!

  • Classic...all James' ladies kill'd it in some form or fashion...WHO IN THE HELL HAS "MESSAGE TO THE SOUL SISTERS" to put on youtube???

  • I have Message to the Soul Sisters and as soon as I gat my shit together I'll puttin it on here along with alot of other classics that aint here either...

  • this is such a hot song!

i love bobby womacks version as well, so funky...i think he made it first but im not sure...this is great as well

  • Bobby wrote it.

  • check out Chaka and Rufus, live on "Stomping at the Savoy". Vicki singing the hell out of it and letting you know.

  • In his autobio (I think) James Brown said that Vicki was the best singer (in comparison to Aretha and others) I love Aretha, so I have to listen to Vicki's voice a little longer . She is great though.

  • great version! no one quite has the funk and beauty that Bobby does in my opinion, but then I'm a huge fan

his phrasing was excellent, and passion! shazaam!!

but this rocks in major amounts

  • Vickie Anderson, wife of Bobby Byrd, and the mother of Carleen Anderson. Vickie was funk personified. She had album call Mother Popcorn

  • I love this track. It's on the cd "James Brown's Funky Divas".

  • nas would murder this track!!!! just think about that for a second

  • wu-tang uses it, but NAS would be nice touch

  • which tune did wu-tang use it for?

  • That´s my song,with the original cassete´s sound,classsssic....smif-n-wess saids,walking down the street.......

  • Interesting to see the love for my relative... Perhaps it will inspire her to do new things! Yes, she does have an amazing voice and she is completely under-rated...

  • Great version...

    Still prefer Rufus though...

  • Chaka took it from Bobby womack and owned it, then Vickie snatched it from Chaka and owned it ! lol ... I like this one and chakas. Who's the male on this track?

  • Chaka borrowed it from Bobby she will never own anything Bobby wrote lol. Bobby's was gritter, Chaka had a feminine funk. Both versions have their own audience. That's like saying Newbirth took "I can't understand it". Though they really took it to another level. Bobby had the lowdown soulful sound that noone can take.

  • Your difference of opinion has been noted. i've always appreciated bobby's songwriting over his vocals. I'm sure his voice appeals to many. I only like certain songs of his. Where do we go from here, if you think youre lonely, harry hippie, woman's gotta have it. Another instance of someone covering his song successfully is Millie Jackson's I'm through trying to prove my love to you.

  • I think that it's Bobby Byrd with her.

  • it is

  • So did Bobby Womack do a cover or did she come after Womack??? let me know cause Ive only ever heard Womack's version

  • bobby womack first, chaka khan/rufus then vickie anderson.

  • thanks pimpin : - D

  • wow!

  • never heard this version dope

  • I love this song and her voice. I just wish she could have gotten more attention!

  • no one like vicky

  • this is the shit !!!!! vicky was soooo underated
