  • Drag racing Auto's are quicker which means better ET.. Manuals drag racing is faster which means fast MPH on the ET But slower ET'S... Roll racing.. Manuals are faster and quicker... Roll racing is pointless and stupid so who cares..

  • manual for me..

  • Don't blame the transmission blame the driver

  • autos r faster my dads got a auto gt and beats my 5speed cobra everytime

  • @branman50314 They are not faster in any way, as long as you know how and when to use the lever.

  • @aleksandersandstrom race me then

  • @branman50314 sure this weekend outside of Stockholm.

  • @branman50314 Thats about 10 hours from me

  • PUSSYS say that autos with stall converters are better on the track. Real men say manuals are better everywhere else. Autos are for pussys that dont know how to drive so they buy a car that a 2 year old knows how to drive (anything with an auto tranny) and say that with a stall converter it is quicker on a drag strip. Autos will never be as fun, cool, or better in the real world as a proper manual transmission.

  • I drive manual - CAUSE I know how automatic transmission is made, and many people with Mazda 626 1998 and Volkswagon Jetta 1996 which can not go past 130.000 miles. were getting mad at automatic.

IT is complicated Torque converter is not the same as CLUTCH. Power transfer is not the same.

  • I would think the auto would have a slight advantage with the traction control, but i have a feeling the weight difference was just enough to let the manual win. Not only with the weight difference of the transmission, but the driver and whatever else was in the car as well.

  • The manuel may of won But I still prefer the auto..

  • Auto with stalls always do better in the track.

  • well all you stick shift drivers say automatic drivers are pussyes.well lets see 10/10 times 400hp + cars autos will kick manuals ass on 1/4 mile race any day.

  • i had a 2012 mustang gt manual hate it been driving stick for 16 years.traded in for auto love it and its also faster.my 2012 gt manual did 13.39 1/4 mile my new auto did 13.07 stock.

  • @Juno825 a manual lasting 400k+? And an auto lasting only lasting 200k? Any true mechanic would know that both will last the same amount of miles as long as their taken care of autos are just harder to work on from my experience if you are a mechanic you don't sound like a very good one

  • aerodynamics, the spoiler made a huge change.

  • wheel spin threw 3rd

  • people who cant shift properly say that autos are faster on start ups that is joke.

  • @wartree They are...if you know how to launch an auto transmission car correctly.

  • @wartree not at all lets race

  • Ok not being a smartass or know-it-all but my automatic GT is quicker off the line because I can just floor it and go and all I worry about is excessive wheel spin, not poping my clutch and possibly killing the car and wheel spin, I can drive a 3/4/5/6 speed manual trans but I prefer an automatic.

  • @LimeStangGt Auto's are better when built anyway. Most cars under 8's run automatics.....

  • @LimeStangGt Auto's are better when built anyway. Most cars under 8's run automatics.....

  • @junechris This is true...they are usually a two speed powerglide or just a built automatic trans...I'm swapping my 5 speed auto for a new 6 speed auto in my 2006 Mustang GT

  • More realistic on the streets from a 1st gear pull. 05' gt vs 10' gt

    watch?v=FOxyI-2pKNw

  • HOLY SHIT did anyone see that boy spit? where are his parents?

  • @KLX1990 who gives a fuck

  • Manuals are more fun, no doubt. Also, for a street car, they are usually a bit faster just because from the factory the auto's gears are set up more for fuel efficiency/highway efficiency, not performance (and of course, a manual can be shifted whenever you want). But, if you want a FAST car (think sub-9 seconds), auto is the way to go (including Semi-Auto).

  • Certainly no 'rumors' from me since I can back up anything I've ever posted. Yeah manuals are 'old tech'....like Levis or 6-string guitars. 7-strings and polyester? Newer ain't always better. That's why the A/C Cobra held records for decades.....

  • From my experience stick-shifts require more fixing of shifting related components. I haven't had a Transmission that don't require Hand and Foot shifting to go bad on me. However mechanics have said that Electronic Transmissions that go bad tend to require entire replacement. Maybe the Technology for Transmissions that Automatically shift gears for you isn't there yet. However stop spreading bad rumors about it.

  • I finally get it. See, the oil in an auto is lighter than gear lube, and the paddles are far lighter than a heavy cue-ball shifter. And remember to have big pipes so the speed particles fly out faster.

  • A stick-shift is not a Manual Transmission. You are just controlling the stick shift so you call it Manual. There is no such thing as a Manual Transmission. Its just a Transmission. Youre using the stick-shift to get to the right gear. With the stick shift you have to use the clutch pedal and hand lever. With Hands Free Systems (Automatics) you don't. Stop using words you don't know the meaning to.

  • @heartlessvietboy and you don't know a lick about what you just tried to say. stop talking before you embarrass yourself any further.

  • Whatever it is, The Best Stick Shift vs The Best Automatic (Push Button).

  • Any thing that you have to do yourself without aid is considered "manually" done. Learn the definition before you go around criticizing other people.

  • Do Automatic Transmissions use clutch discs? I am not familiar with Transmission Systems.

  • Clutch Pedal Squeals. You waste more gasoline revving your engine pressing the clutch pedal trying to get to the right gear. Worst of all your knee is caught under the center console dashboard. For taller people it's the steering wheel.

  • @heartlessvietboy I usually just adjust the seat first. I'm tall, and the fox, 95 and 197 stangs are all just fine. Friend of mine once said the only people that drive autos are paraplegics and women....I thought that was funny but harsh.......Even the worst manuals (mitsu/wrx come to mind) are preferred to autos. Even w/a real tiptronic-type the only advantage would be track/slalom driving. CVTs might change things but ain't seen it yet.....only cars that NEED autos are 4-500hp+.

  • Stick-shifts is old Technology.

  • yeah I don't get the debate- just read any reputable reviews (R&T, MT, etc), the manuals are almost always significantly faster/better mpg. And more reliable. As I said it depends heavily on the driver, which is why I prefer them anyway....start putting heavy HP and Bama tune on an auto and see how long it survives (or shifts on a daily basis). There's a reason why Shelbys are all manuals....

  • It's not Double Clutch Transmission. It's Double Clutch Discs Fly-Wheel.

  • In my opinion, stick shifts break all the time. Clutch Pedal and Transmission Components have to be replaced all the time. Whereas in an Automatic there's less complication. Shift times are much quicker.

  • @heartlessvietboy from experience I can report manuals are far more reliable, and generally faster (both depending on competence of driver). They suffer less drivetrain loss, get better mpg and usually are lighter as well. For strictly drag apps a super-duty auto w/line-lock is the most repeatable, but I like driving.....I've clocked over 100k in mopar and chev auto's-both failed constantly- and the same miles or more in manual 'stangs, which NEVER ONCE needed any work at all....

  • From my experience stick-shifts require more maintenance. Shifting from 1st to Second gear suffer substantial loss of time. Total time loss between all the hand shifting and pedal clutching would be more than one second. What is drivetrain loss?

  • @heartlessvietboy shifting 1-2 is nearly instantaneous and can be moderated for tire slip in a manual. Autos require preloading and the stall converter to lock up at proper rpm. Please, read up on some technical doc's. Remember, an auto tuned for all-out straight-line launches will suck on the road.

  • How come its clotted shifting from Neutral to 1st Gear? I'm talking about the normal everyday stick-shift. Because it's Old Technology!!

  • automatics r for pussys

  • @EmofacePS3 I'd really like to see you tell that to the 3 speed automatic infamous "supra from hell"

  • WOW so the difference between automatic and manual arent so different in the speed sense of the car.

  • black paint adds 20hp. driving stick adds another 10 hp.

  • @moe929560 everyone hates you so no one gave either :P

  • I was gonna read through all the comments about how one is better and blah blah blah but i'd like to know the difference in drivers, experience specifically. Also, lets look at the time slips and see the reaction times.

  • Manual = more control of your engine's RPM

Automatic = i have no idea what RPMs are, I just want my car to move

  • Is there really a Debate in the automotive world between which is Faster, Stick Shifts or Push Button Shifting (Paddles)? Has there been a proven race?

  • @heartlessvietboy on a track, paddle shifters are much faster than manuals.

  • That's because paddle shifters have never raced a real sports car manual.

  • @heartlessvietboy Actually theres plenty of reviews on youtube comparing manual cars to paddle shifting cars. Oh, the paddle shifters always won.

  • I don't know, Paddle Shifting and Stick Shifts will be a race to see which technology is best.

  • @heartlessvietboy paddle shifting will win every time. the torque transfer efficiency is just as good on the double clutch systems as a standard manual, with the quickness of an automatic. we have been trying for years to make shifting a manual faster, while at the same time trying to slow the automatics down so they don't break your neck when they shift.

  • So then it can be said that Paddle Shifters are better to use than Stick Shifts because the shifting would be more convenient and faster. Stick shifts you have to clutch. One is an electronic or by wire system the other is a manual system. Gear ratio wise is in engineering of transmission.

  • @heartlessvietboy correct, however you can change your final drive ratio by changing your overall tire circumference by decreasing wheel and tire size.

  • I personally like stick-shifts in older sports cars whereas the newer one are paddle shifters and push button shifting. I don't care about speed, just how cool the car looks.

  • @heartlessvietboy f1 cars are paddle shift, they are better. period. which one you like better is your opinion, but the fact is double clutch is better.

  • How do you use double clutch?

  • @heartlessvietboy it's a paddle shift system. direct shift, dual clutch, etc. same thing that's in the evo x's, nissan gtr's, and f1 cars. extremely fast, high efficiency, and "automatic", more or less semi-auto.

  • Ohhhh. Its a Dual Clutch Disc Transmission. A Clutch Disc is a circular steel plate that spins the Fly Wheel to engage Torque Power. There are Two of them in a DCT.

  • Autotragic, enough said

  • the black one won coz the driver was a kid

  • How can you have a "worst" time at the track? It's an automatic. Plant your foot to the floor.

  • if you have a dd get auto. if your buying a "sports car" get manual

  • @burn21991 and if u want a fast car get auto

  • 4 miles per gallon better isn't worth the shifting you have to do in traffic. Let alone the clutching and the fixing of the clutch.

  • Ok, here is the main thing. Manuals get better mileage, are cheaper(They list them as standard, So why so many autos?) and they do tend to handle power just a bit better. Not so much an issue today as autos have progressed, but still, there are things you can do with a manual that will always leave it with a slight edge.

  • lmao any guy who hates on a transmission is a wankster

i much prefer the sound of a DSG down gearing rather than being 200rpm off the sound of a perfect double clutch.

then again it depends what mood ur in, if im thrashing my car then im glad i chose the manual. however if im feeling lazy and facing a million traffic lights ahead then auto is more comfortable

  • omg stfu people theres ups and downs...if u like driving stick shift then good if u like driving auto good for you too.. not because u like to drive an auto or stick doesnt mean everybody needs to be driving it... its what they prefer....

  • In your description you said you are in the automatic but then put a smiley that the manual still beat you wtf? why did you get a manual then

  • they are both fucking gay..

  • This is the Huntsville Dragway isn't it?

  • manual cuz it more faster and fun to drive and i got a leather 1 it so tight

  • @DaKiid22 manual wont make a car faster. fyi

  • My automatic 300c srt8 is da best thing to have so hop off..!! im black and rich with an auto...

  • @theodor33e

300c srt8 is not a rich man's car.Its a fast car for people that dont have enough money for a BMW/Mercedes/Audi and so on.

Dont show off, nobody asked you too

  • Lmao

  • so much hate towards the automatics...why? I drive a auto bcuz I dont have time to shift bcuz most of the time theres a cute chick in the passanger seat whose tits im playin with lol

  • @candlesoreal I think most guys hate on autos bcuz they seem to think that it takes the fun out of driving. But I honstly don't get it. Hows the fun being taking away just bcuz you can't shift? I own 2 C5's, 97 6 man, and a 98 4 speed auto. I have to say that the auto only takes away 2% of the fun, so your left 98% of fun. So are you guys telling me that your gonna pass up on a car bcuz its only left with 98% fun? Your not gonna throw a hot chick out of bed bcuz shes got a hairy pussy will you?

  • @candlesoreal I have manual and still can play with chicks in passenger sit.. just put 3-4th Gear all the way

  • @candlesoreal thats sounds like you're totally telling the truth.

  • @candlesoreal

LOL that was a good one man! =)

  • @candlesoreal

    hahahahah

  • @candlesoreal lol

  • @candlesoreal and she stares at you saying "this fat fuck and his automatic too lazy to push another pedal"

  • @candlesoreal cause real men can multitask. whats her number?

  • @candlesoreal automatic are for people who don't have the skill to drive..a professional driver will never buy an automatic..u can't control the revs, it burns more, it costs more, it is heavier, slower, less top speed............they suck!

  • nope that didnt count one was black one was blue black cars are faster than blue ones lol =)

  • @sacromeo916

I think I get that joke. But it would of made more sence if the other car was white don't you think???

  • @sacromeo916 the blue one won

  • @sacromeo916 lol the blue one did win u retard rofl :D

  • the black one had a spoiler, thats AT LEAST another 50rwhp

  • @best17driver

    thats the stock wing -_-

  • @Paintballer4life

i know they add rwhp just like those big wings on civics right?

  • @best17driver

    sure...

  • manual and auto both have their perks, and their drawbacks...

i've driven both and i would personally rather have a stick because i pay more attention to what im doing and i feel more in control...

i could almost fall asleep driving an auto but when im in my car im never tired, or bored.

  • If we are talking about the same car and wether its a manual or an automatic, I would go for a manual for one reason, weight. I don't drag race so weight is more important on a road course, also the fact that I can hold what gear I want, instead of an auto guessing what gear I want in a corner. And anyone who says an auto is slow must have never heard of the GTR, its lightning fast and an auto. They each have their place, if Im driving an SUV I would rather an Auto. Again all preference.

  • This is a big debate, but here's my opinion, Automatic never misses a gear, but it has dead spots when it shifts, no biggie, but it can cost you the race. a Manual your in control but, driving a Manual very very well is an art, and as alot of people said under this comment it's personal preference. I rather have a manual just because I enjoy it more. But an automatic is much more convenient, so it comes down to your preference, and your situation.

  • hey if you race a 5 speed mustang and yours

a automatic put it on od and rev 1400 rpms and let brake go

it will help for : drag racing trust me i race all the time but that was a 98 mustang gt

nice cars check out my cars by the way nice car

  • Who gives a fuck?

  • The thing about many mnual cars is that they can go at higher revs in a given gear before shifting up = more power at the wheels, better acceleration. Plus they tend to make a car about a grand less in price than an automatic. They are also arguably, a little better on gas consumption, depending how you drive. But its all personal preference. For a sports car I'd get a standard. For a family car like a Corolla I might get an automatic ( its more wife/ gf friendly)

  • @johnnyponny4 there are a few things you left out. With an auto you get to use a trans brake so you can launch at 5k if you want to, a torque converter amplify's torque from the engine. An auto will always shift faster and never miss a gear. All the "real" drag cars are auto tranys. Me, I cant stand them, hit the gas and go. Takes some real skill to bang through the gears manualy. Launching is a bitch, i must use line locks to keep it from creeping up as im holding the clutch 3/4 way and reving

  • Yeah, I would say in general that it's def not faster because its manual...jeep srt8's come with a five speed auto tranny... those compete with audi r8's... auto tranny's can be quite effective with a 6.1 liter hemi all wheel drive under the hood.

  • I believe manuels and automatics are equally just as fast. It just boils down to your own personal preference. If you think you have to have a manuel to be "manly" then you are already not man enough, and should quit trying.

And I drive both manuel and automatic sports cars-FYI

  • Comment removed

  • that was very close

  • I love how there are so many automatic hater on here, i drive one in my mustang, why, for one i live where there is alot of traffic, two it is faster than a stick and i dont have to worry about missing a gear, and my resale is a hell of alot higher than a stick's. On the down side, its alot harder to find performance parts for a auto, but thats where i get creative and have a custom car that i like, who cares if johnny ricer likes it, cause in the end im still faster and nicer looking

  • @mike07gtcs you don't have to worry about missing gears if you know how to drive the car in the first place.

  • @wartownkidx thats true, but the problem with factory shifters is sometimes when they are raced the sinc row will be thrown out of place. Me personally i know how to drive a stick so i dont have to worry about that, because powershifting and double clutching are some good things to know when racing a stick, ya know

  • @mike07gtcs WTG,I also drive an auto. 06 GT,making 478 RWHP,it's fast and fun,and no sore knee's in bumper to bumper traffic for mile's,that's the sucky part.

  • shit unless you race on pro tracks like this then FUCK off with manual, who the fuk do u u think u are, vin desiel?

  • @carGT222 Is that what really owning a car is all about? Just racing? Shame on me, I thought it was about owning the car just because you love the car regardless of its transmission... But its all about which car is better in a race, and if its not manual the car is crap... Well, I guess thats what todays patrol heads are all about. Speed and not love for automoblies, The Fast And The Furious had something to do with this eh? Oh well maybe i'm wrong, and I thought I was being a real car lover...

  • @krocialblack That movie sucked,it was a bunch of gas weed wacker ricer's,I'm a muscle car guy to the end, wether it's Ford,Dodge or Chevy.

  • @GMurphSC06GT lol XD Well I respect both imports and muscle... Bcuz any where else in the world the american muscle cars are the imports and the tuners are the domestics =P

  • even though i think that manual is better... this guy clearly had no fucking idea what he was doing.. your car shouldnt just slam into gear like that and jolt forward... even though a manual will out accelerate an automatic.. you also need to know what the fuck youre doing before you think about it.. this guy is not too far from either a blown engine, a dropped clutch, or fucked transmission.. learn how to really drive a stick before youre gonna race.. unless you wanna destroy that piece of shit

  • Nothing wrong with either one. I prefer manual, but if I ever get stuck in traffic and I don't know any backroads I just put it in first and creep along. I have a 1993 CAmry auto and i use her to my commute to work, and my mustang for a toy. I plan to go into the automotive industry and rebuild this camry and give it to my parents for a back up car. it has treated me very well.

  • I prefer a manual, not because I think I drive any faster in one I just feel like i'm actually driving the car more and have more control over what it does (which you do) I can totally see why automatics are more popular and they sorta make more sense for casual road use as they're just more straightforward, I just find them less fun and of course, more expensive.

  • @ABCxJAMMIN Mostly in track racing where RPM power bands can be heavily exploited when shifting. However, in drag racing, automatic transmissions build greater speed as there is virtually no disconnection between the power of the engine and the drive train. When the clutch is pressed there is no power other than weight momentum. Both transmissions can be improved to the point where they are both either the same as far as disadvantages though.

  • @ABCxJAMMIN Not if your in bumper to bumper traffic for miles,I got my auto. mustang GT supercharged with 3.73 gears and other goodies and it's a blast to drive.

  • @GMurphSC06GT I can imagine it's great fun, no doubt if it's a powerful car like that it's fun as an automatic aswell, and yes in traffic auto's rule over manual any day.

  • @ABCxJAMMIN yeah,they do.

  • First I drive an auto, why, mainly because I broke my right wrist in a car accident a few years ago & one bone is now shorter than the other & it gets aggravated easily so while I'm fine on the highway or around town I can't shift fast enough to race it.

Also the comments that autos are no good for racing are just wrong, I've seen autos competitive in road courses & drag racing.

Also the idea that few people can drive a manual is funny - it just means there are more to kill your clutch =)

  • manual will take off faster auto will catch up thats the performance difference!

  • 1/8 of a mile right?

  • well a manual is alot more fun and i like that alot of people cant drive my mustang

but auto is good for your convenience or if u just to lazy to shift

but in the end i dont want a car that just any dumb ass can get behind the wheel turn the key put it and d and go

  • I like both, auto for convenience and stick for machismo. Theres nothing like having control of high rpms and shifting at your will. but on a daily driver it gits old when your drinking a cold one and having to spill it because you have to shift.

  • @refugiorod or if ur girls on the passenger side and u tryna garb on her but then a stop comes up mur like fuck!!!!

  • lol @ everyone arguing about which one is better. Everyone just keep your opinions to yourselves, and we will all go on with our lives. I mean, we all know that manuals are better ;) haha

  • the only reason i wanted an automatic is because i live in a high traffic area.

  • manual only exsited due to lack of technology decades ago. who da fuck WANTS to drive manual these days, i understand if you can't spend an extra 900 bucks to afford an auto. i really don't get how is shifting a stick so much fun to some people.....cut all that macho stick shift crap out. go afford an auto transmisson.

  • @fhhs05 Much more fun with manual xD

  • @riflleman i know and more reliable

  • @riflleman

i agree but alot of dragsters are auto (perfect shift everytime) only driver error would b the result of a loss or engine or drivetrain failure but thats another story.plus ive had both and both are fun ass hell to drive when u got a lil hp

  • @riflleman clearly u havent had 300hp rear wheel drive auto.

  • @quatroportte All depends on taste. Maybe he has. Personally I prefer a manual. That is what my Mustang is. It's a jack of all trades. Street car/cruiser, road race car, drag racer. But on that note my daily driver/tow rig is an auto and if I were to set up a car for pure drag racing it would also have an auto. If I were setting up a car for pure road course racing it would be a manual. It's all preference. But I do think manuals are more fun to drive.

  • @inspector13jjf

Reason i believe that low powered cars should be autos and not manual is because i owned a BMW manual and curently a Fiat seicento(900cc engine) manual and i have to shift 3 times to hot 60km/h (not MPH) so basically i shift about 500 times a day...in my BMW i kept it in 1st and got to 90kmh (MPG was about 10....lol)

  • @quatroportte Yea where you live would also be a factor. I used to own a Focus hatchback with a manual but I live in a very rural area. Even though I drive 26.4 miles to work one way (52.8 miles round trip) there are only 5 stop signs on the way there (10 total) so I had to shift a total of 50 times a day. If I lived in a city or where there was a lot of stop and go traffic I would have never gotten a manual Focus. My location allows me to not get worn out driving a manual daily. =D

  • @inspector13jjf

I live in downtown Cluj (huge city in Romania) and i deliver pizzas with the fiat :))) so yes i do drive a lot

But my BMW is ok since i shift a few times a day:)) (not quite but you get the ideea)

I drove my friend's mustang in the city and its really nice to concetrate on the road than on the RPM guage

  • @inspector13jjf I tow a boat with a manual, i like it because you can get better control with it (mostly when engine breaking) but the only time i wish i had and auto is when im launching it.

  • @fhhs05 Its all just a matter of opinion. I myself prefer a manual, however I absolutely understand the appeal of an auto. They are easier and nice to have in traffic.

Shifting is more fun when doing some spirited driving on a winding road, but for everyday use (which is the world most of us live in) some people just dont enjoy it

  • @BudleighSaltertonBoy

Agreed. Manual in traffic is horrible but great on the wide open road.

  • @Allante715 its not bad at all! learn how to drive one!

  • @hartattack940

Oh I definitely what too. But unless I want to sell my car and buy a new one, its automatic for me.

  • @Allante715 if you dont know how to drive a manual shift, then how can you say they suck in traffic??

  • @Allante715 Hows that?

  • @fhhs05 for your information all autos dont cost more...in my case..my rx8 the stick shift(6 speed) cots two grand more than the automatic...it revs 1500rpm higher than the automatic due to no govenor

  • @fhhs05 dude automatics are discustingly horrible!! you have to drive slow to make them last, and you have to worry about blowing a tranny if you dont change the fluid every so often! manual transmitions are solidly built, ALOT more fun to drive, and you NEVER have to change the gear oil! unless you wanna upgrade to royal puple or something.. and i like the feeling that i can drive a car that alot of other people cant :D

  • @hartattack940 " i like the feeling that i can drive a car that alot of other people cant"

i can drive an excavator and you cant. guess that means i'm better than you.

  • @highway955 haha oh yeah, i can drive a fork lift so im better that you! :D haha

  • @hartattack940 thanks for joining me in making fun of you.

  • @highway955 uhh your welcome. haha :P

  • Yeah, automatics are quicker. So what? Anybody can stomp on the pedal. GG.

  • An automatic car is nothing more than a large golf cart!

  • @Telewanger That was fucking stupid

  • @Telewanger LOOOOOOOOOOOL yea drives like on too

  • A manual is good if the car is just going to be your weekend toy and you have another car thats an auto to drive in traffic on a daily basis, but if you only have one car you may regret getting a manual when you get stuck in traffic jams 5 days a week.

  • Cool !! I like both autos and manual.....the main thing should be the love of the automobile. Both have ups and downs. Thats just me... though the sound of a stang going through the gears gets my blood flowing haha !! I just love cars !!!!
