  • if I were the captian I wuld have stopped the boat so thata the pilots didnt have to hit a moving object on the oceans.

  • everyone loves the F-14 just because it was in Top Gun. retards

planes a POS thats why its gone now.

  • 2:00 COME AT ME, BRO

  • u guys still use F-14s lol i thought the US stopped using those years ago.

  • @rolandtran10

The F-14 retired in 2006,probably this video was taken before 2006.

  • oh no, RIP f-14 tomcat

    i love this plane

  • 2:02 Who ordered Dominos?

  • There is definite logic to that, however, how many of our enemies have gotten their hands on say, F-4's, A-7's,F-16's (given classified info by a certain president for campaign $, ahem, Clinton) Our pilots are superior to ALL our enemies, mainly because we've invested the time and money in training. Unfortunately, the swing-wing means a lot more moving parts, thus more expense. LOVE the bird, but...I don't think we'll need to take down 6 bombers at once for a few years. God willing

  • I thought ALL pilots aim was #3..

  • Missed ? Ever heard of touch and go ?

  • @majinken90 bolter

  • the plane at 2:02 is amazing

  • Working on the deck of a carrier is one of the most hazardous, insalubrious jobs around.

  • These planes get close to the end of the deck before they stop.

  • Came here after playing battlefield 3 xD

  • @2mins guys the pizza here and it took longer than 30 mins free pizza :)

  • cool :)

  • you might want to fix the info box its 4 cables not 5. But awesome video.

  • michAEL

  • lso eval , fuck this i would rather be dead then go through all this bitchy shit again.

  • E_2 pilot was a MASTER!>>>

  • I loathed this part of the Top Gun NES game.

  • I miss rating stars in YT. This video would get 6 or 7.

  • must be fun living on a carrier. :L

  • dsoutherngent1 are right, its a EA-6B, 4 place aircraft, its a familial version for travel with wife and children...

After its a S-3 Viking the "mini cooper" and the pizza delivery plane its a E-2 haweye, probably C version.

    Nice video.

  • Awesome.

  • I don't get it, why retire the Tomcat while the Phantom is an older jet! Nic video man!

  • you know if the runway is out by more than 3 degrees planes don't fly

  • it'd scare hell out of me if i missed the cable lol

  • @JoshTehVideoMaker How so? The planes must land at full speed in case they fail to hit the cable, to have enough speed to fly up again

  • I love how the viking lands and immediately folds its wings. almost like a seagull just landed on the ocean and was folding its own wings...except a lot bigger.

  • This is the goddamn best video on YouTube. End of discussion.

  • how can they fit all that shit on there.

  • the foldable wings are legit

  • Love the S-3 Viking

  • An air force base is a country club with a runway. Fly navy!

  • Just insane forces involved to break when these are landing.

  • Tney must have a god break

  • PLEASE REPLY

Why did the military put the f-14s out of commission as i recall they had one of the greatest advances in military planes but its life in the military was one of the shortest.

  • @FMXndMXismylife Just realized, the title is inaccurate. There was NO A-6a Intruder landing...that was an EA-6B Prowler, same basis, but totally different aircraft. BTW, the F-14, unfortunately got phased out because they became maintenance hogs. Pilots LOVE the aircraft, maintenance crew hated it.

  • @dsoutherngent1 also the s-3 viking landed

  • @dsoutherngent1 They also forgot the mighty S3.

  • @dsoutherngent1 also there was a S-3B and an E-3

  • @dsoutherngent1 That and alot of our enemies now have f14 and to make sure they can't keep theirs operational they had to stop production on parts for them.

  • @FMXndMXismylife my guess is that the F-18 is designed to be operated by a single person, the Tomcat required 2. Also, the F-18 is a bit smaller, maybe they can fit a couple more on the carrier. I could be wrong though.

  • @FMXndMXismylife The F14 was a product of the 1960's experience in Viet Nam.It first flew in 1970 and entered service in 1974 - retiring 31 years later - not too short a service life really (F4 Phantom had 36yr service life in US military) Good as it was, the F18 Super Hornet can perform more roles, costs less and is a smaller airframe - although not as fast as F14.

  • @tomburley you forgot to mention the that the F-18 has small ass fuel tanks...problem was corrected with the Super Hornet although they are still considered too small for its role.

  • @FMXndMXismylife the radar gave away its positon a lot. THE NAVY GETS IT BUDGET CUT A LOT!. and it was to high maintenance.

  • ah, the chuckie V. I have a love-hate relationship with this ship.

  • I think this must be quite very scary for the first couple of times xD

  • @figaro755 Landing on a carrier during the day, in good weather is a rush, not too scarey. Landing at night, bad weather....thats enough to scare the devil himself

  • @dsoutherngent1 You're right... haven't really thought about that ;)

  • Nice VDO

  • There's only 4 cables on the Nimitz class carriers...and the new class will only have 3. Some of the "misses" were actually touch and goes. The difference is the bolters are a missed trap. A touch and go is a practice landing, the pilot will not have the arresting hook down.

  • @superzig311 I also just realized that the S-3 squadron is the one I belonged to, the VS-29 Dragonfires...depending on when this was shot I might have been aboard, lol

  • I like the plane with the large pizza tray on top. That's the pizza delivery plane.

  • @deliciousmorton I'm hoping you're joking.... That's an E2-C Hawkeye. It's an airborne early warning and control aircraft. The Navy's version of the E-# Sentry, the one the Air Force flies. The "pizza tray" is actually a rotating radar.

  • @Jimed756 Cool. I bet that helps them to get the pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less.

  • @deliciousmorton

a huge speciale for the crew of a huge ship. makes sense.

  • @deliciousmorton Hahahahah, its actually called the NATO plane

  • @haraldinho13 Does NATO deliver the pizzas, or do the pizzas get delivered to NATO?

  • @deliciousmorton NATO does the delivering done, far better than dominos

  • @deliciousmorton AH AH AH :D, I laughed so much when i read your comment :p

  • @deliciousmorton e2c hawkeye AWACS plane

  • I like the way the wings of the airplanes fold to make space. That's pretty cool.

  • plane at 2:05 has a special humbrella to protect itself from rain, a relly good idea! ;D

  • Up on the 07 with a camera.

    Nice passtime.

  • @saschadxb yeah thats why they add full power on touch down incase they miss the wires

  • @RADIOACTIVEBUNY If you were flying an A3D you'd be pissing yourself dry. It was essentially a naval strategic bomber -- biggest bird ever flown off a carrier deck.

  • @Historianization

A C-130 landed and took off from the U.S.S. Forrestal in Oct of '63.

  • Those dirty coward killers bombing defenseless Libyans day and night since 4 months !

  • loved it when carriers had a wider variety of planes on deck

  • "Helpless from the maschinia bestia intelligentia was so see..., in one scene from this movie..."

  • f-14 and a6a is retired !!!

  • I think they decommissioned the f 14 like 3 months after this video

  • The EA 6B Prowler in the end, comes to a standstill really close to the end of the deck. I am wondering, if it ever happened, that a jet although hit the hook, flew over the deck

  • @saschadxb yes, it actually happened when I was on the Independence in the early 80's. An EA-6B landed, caught the wire and just as the plane was about to stop the wire split and the plane went overboard. Sadly, one pilot's parachute got caught on the plane's refueling probe and he drowned as the plane sank. Very sad...

  • 0:35 guy coming back from work and seeing his ex girl friend parked infront of his house.

  • how do the pilots manage to spot the cables on the grey deck???

  • @gtamodman122 They don't care about spotting the cables. The flight landing system (meatball) puts them right on top of it.

  • @cwest1977 then why do they somethimes miss?

  • @gtamodman122 The carrier has a light stack that tells the pilot if they are too high or too low like any airport. It's pretty accurate. Misses are usually because they were a little too high

  • @gtamodman122 I believe there are not only markings, but they are standardized so they know where to hit.

  • There almost isn't a cooler sound in the world than an aircraft carrier PA system.

  • what happens if you miss, free beer time?

  • ...and i thought the parking lot at my job was crowded!!!

  • That's an EA-6B, not A-6A

  • Takes a Pro to make the impossible stuff look easy...

  • don"try this at home

  • @oldhoppieization yes try this at school

  • what are the ramifications of missing the wires?

  • How do the pilots know if their planes are successfully hooked with the cable?

  • @8j8ACE they'ss rapidly stop and the coordinates on the plane will prove it.

  • @8j8ACE If the hook catches the plane will stop very quickly. Should feel that =)

  • Why were there tomcats, they got laid off over 4 years ago

  • One bomb dropped on the run way ... that air carrier will be useless !

  • Awesome!!!!! 5 STARS!!!!

  • That is so nice! I love plans and carriers!

  • they should have this cable arrester at all airports to conserve space...

  • Soo beutiful work...

  • I am Tarzan watch me swing from the vines and land on yonder tree. Ahahahahalalallll!!

Jane has sore ass today, she missed tree.

  • Is that an orion at 2:15? Excuse my ignorance lol.

  • @MynameisElliott I believe it's a E-2 Hawkeye if I remember correctly. :)

  • @yowhatzup1991 Yeah, that's right. The one MynameisElliott was thinking of is a 4 prop plane, P-3 Orion. That one isn't carrier-based.

  • Bolter! Bolter! Bolter!

  • is it true they have to go full throttle when landing incase they miss the cable to get back in the air?

  • @Tnesjed Yes, full throttle occurs upon landing gear touching deck. Should arresting cable not get hooked, pilot has engines ready for takeoff.

  • @goldenzah Strong cables then :)

  • @Tnesjed Yeah man!

  • 1:40 that was a cute landing

  • 1:05 oh crap why am i going back?????!!!!!

  • You guys (pilots) get my vote. Ballsy.

  • If you ntice that the aircraft are pulled backward just a little after they stop this creates enough slack for the cable to drop and the tailhook is raised by the pilot when the green shirt gives the signal that the arresting cable is clear and the pilot is marshalled by a yellow shirt to leave the landing area.

  • Sometimes (rarely)the arresting cable snaps under the tension of a landing aircraft at full power and the cable then becomes a steel bullwhip traveling in excess of 1 hundred miles per hour and if the cable clips you it could cut you in two. Missed approaches are called a bolter. I miss my Navy days

  • EA-6B, akshully

  • AWESOME VID!!! nice landings

  • Not necessarily in half depending on what part of the body the cable hits. I'm not sure if the guy in this video lost his feet but I'm sure he sustained a significant injury. Rather or not the cable severs part of the body depends on how close the person was to the snapping point. Those cables have been known to make contact with the mid section of the body and divide the victim into two.

  • Incredible! I am a civilian GA pilot, and sometimes I have difficulty landing on a 10,000ftx150ft runway at less than 100 knots, These pilots have the biggest balls around if they can land on a 1,000ftx200ft deck at over 130knots! My hat is off to Navy pilots.

  • @Koumrian I don't fly a plane at all, but I can imagine trying to do this at night in a storm with the deck pitching.

  • Yes kendama that is why. If you find yourself on deck be sure to keep your distance because if that cable snaps and it hits you...... It will cut you in half.

  • @bgswansonlocc Why in half?

  • so when they gun it when they land im guessing thats in case they miss and can take off? cuz i noticed once the wheels touch even when they catch they give it full throttle.

  • @KendamaChris92 You're exactly right. They gun the engines in case they need to get the plane airborne again. They don't have room to stop without the arresting hook, so if they cut power and then missed the cable they'd go straight off the end of the deck into the drink.

  • I love how when they land its just like, "lets fold those wings!"

  • The pilots missing traps see this video in total 30 times

  • 2:32 TRANSFORMERS!!!!

  • 2:04 ....now how is that gonna take off again?

  • @TheVideowave The same way every plane takes off from a carrier.

  • whats the plane at 2:10?

  • @admiralPs E-2 Hawkeye

  • That was an EA-6B Prowler, not an A-6E Intruder. Great video though, brings back memories from my time with VA-35 on the Nimitz and Roosevelt!

  • the first A-6 was a browler not a intruder, but great video i always wanted to be a navy fighter pilot.

  • Wish there wasn't stupid sound effects every time one lands...

  • @flyingturnip1 sounds effect? you mean the pilots hitting full throttle in case they missed the arrestor hook?

  • @nighthawk0077 yea, s'alright, thought it had been added. Ignore me, i'm being a cock! ;)

  • The plane at 2:00 is called a Viking... :)

  • How do they mange to just start taxiing straight away?

    What happens to the cable?

  • @raj164 After they come to a stop the tailhook is lifted to release the cable.

  • 2:00 it looks very funny

  • Cool video.

  • What happens if you catch it going way to fast?

  • @Xvalt3d It breaks and the deck is red, so no plane can land on it. They need to fix the cables before they can land other planes. As for the plane that broke it, they apply full thrust and go around until the deck is available.

  • criticalpuppets, when you don't' know when you're talking about, just shut it. WTF. no big deal for CV-70 to operate with a missing cable. one of my vids shows it doing exactly that, with plenty of time to have changed it if they'd wanted to. they aren't going to replace a cable during recovery. however, the plane breaking one is damned unlikely to go around. usually, into the ocean, with crew ejecting before.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper im talking about most planes asshole. Why the hell did you reply to a commend i posted 4 months ago anyway you troll

  • criticalpuppets, 4 months, 7 years... you're wrong. i'm talking about most planes, asshole.

know why i replied? because you're a stupid fuck and it should be noted. now go away. stop replying to comments i left 2 hours ago. oh, and here's where i call you a troll, because that's never been done before on the earth.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper ok, im wrong. Big fuckin deal. Youre a troll because you searched 8 pages of comments to start an argument with someone. A simple correction would have been fine retard. If every time you correct someone youre going to find yourself a fatass struggling to make friends in prison.

  • the planes with the folding wings look like transformers. maybe thats the governments big secret

  • @naggerkiller they fold to take up less space :p

  • bolter bolter bolter

  • Look how fast that carrier is moving! I'll bet those guy can really feel the wind at 30+ knots.

  • Man...I wish they would'nt have retired the Tomcat....That is such a beautiful plane...

  • OMG!!

... starwars totally rips off the navy! duh.

  • Just a slight correction, that is not an A-6A but an EA6-B. The E is for electronic as in electronic counter measures to jam surface to air missile radars. The A-6A is a 2 seat bomber and the EA6-B is 4 person crew.

  • Sights AND SOUNDS of carrier ops! Thank you!

  • 0:53 the F-14 almost smashes

  • ''Here I come! Time to land!''

    ''Little more, little moreeee''

    ''Oh god damnit!''

    ''I'm falling over the edge''

  • WE MISS THE F 14 :'(

  • For all you plane freaks. Love watching the traps.

  • Great footage. How were you dropped off for your visit on the carrier?

  • @ironoarsman Landed on the deck in a twin engine with a successful trap.

  • Dont ALL navy piltos aim to trap the #3 wire? Its a carrier design thing. And they are graded on it each time. Not much job security..lol

  • Loved the sound quality! Nice vid! Thanks for it ;)

  • Oohah! Go 70 Go! Let's turn two.

    Thank you goldenzah.

  • 0:35 fuk no parking places again --'

  • V-2 Baby!!!

  • FLY NAVY!

  • its freakin awesome how some of the aircraft fold their wings up to save space.

  • @Afterburner8004 its necessary to supplement each squadrons numbers. we've been doing it since before WWII

  • 0:37

not missed, touch and go. He did not have his hook down. Oh and F-14 Tomcat Ftw!

  • 0:53 BEST BIRD EVER!

  • awsome farout the tomcats are heavy

  • The one with the radar dish looks awesome :) I want one!

  • the f-14 is so much bigger than the f-18
