They were planning to return it to use and possibly go mainline but in the end it went to Barrow Hill to give up vital components for the Brighton Belle project

He's a fitter testing the train, not trying to properly drive it. You can see him going between Shunt & Series on Master controller and shutting off between them. Driving a Train and Train Driving in a Microsoft Simulator are very different matey!
