cool tune ..rivets my soul to the churning clouds across the sky.....or another way to put it would be "cool tune" or still another would be to say that this song is the same reality as a willys gasser wheelstanding at raceway park in cleremont indiana during a windy March run down the strip..lol...love this tune..tnx for posting
Years back i had that song on my walkman. When i went skiing i would get off the lift, and get all my gear together and as soon as i was ready to bomb it, i'd hit the go button on the walkman. I could fly down the slopes with skiis as one and vedle so fast it looked like a windshield wiper. Man i got some odd looks. Don't think i could do that with any other song. Thks. STT for such a motivational piece.
IN ALL THE YEARS I HAVE SEEN THIS VIDEO, I HAVE NEVER KNOWN WHO THE LEGS MODEL IS, AND AM STILL WONDERING AS TO WHO SHE IS..... BUT CHISWICK RECORDS WON'T DIVULGE WHO SHE IS.... THAT IS SO "WROOOOOOOOOONNNNG"....
@imasmurfy1 Don't know if this will help but the album liner notes list two additional back-up singers on "Driver's Seat"...Jim Nellis and Noel McCalla. He may be one of those two, as he is not pictured on the album with the other six band members.
Freakin love this song....makes me want to throw on my roller skates and and head to the skating rink like back in grade school. Brings back fun memories as a kid.
@justglom i couldn't find this song cos i thought it was from the sony hi fi ad , pioneer you say ? i'm going to check it outright now---- cheers from Gibraltar
@Stadia2024 Yea or kicked out.. what the hell's he there for anyway? Looks like a bum that was hanging outside the back of the club begging to work for a beer. Needless paycheck
I once heard 30 years ago a long version (6 minutes, NOT a maxi-single) of this song, with a more extended keyboards end...but I am afraid I never can find that anymore...But anyway this clacking song rest in my memory! The follow-up single *Driving Beat* was not of success anymore. This must have been a great (prog-rock) band!
I agree with coolmodad in the top comments. My favorite radio station that I listened to for years WCCN just changed their format. What they call rock now is a joke, and it's crap.
I wrote the station and told them how bad their new format is, and I get the rubberstamp e-mail that "music has evolved and the guy who listened to rock is now in his late 40's and 50's , and we must change with the evolution of music". I am sorry, but all rock from the 50's to the late 80's and90's is it,period!
anyone ever listen to the rest of the album?...it got great reviews but alas i don't know one other song....i just want to keep playing this one over and over
anyone ever listen to the rest of the album?...it got great reviews but alas i don't know one other song....i just want to keep playing this one over and over
I read that the backup singer had just flew in to do vocals and didn't have time to remove his flight jacket, scarf, and aviators because he had to fly back out after the song.
I remember this song when it came out! And every time it came on the raido I would have to listen to the whole song no matter what. Just Awesome and still sounds great after all this time. And you never forget how the song goes. Today's crap music I forget in a heartbeat! Or try to.
The cool night air of late September 1979 wafts through the open windows of Marks new Mustang GT as we cruise UNL campus in the never ending search for girls. KFMQ FM blasts Sniff 'n' the tears through the Mustangs speakers as the night breeze mixes with smell of new vinyl and Jovan Musk cologne. Finally, we turn down 16th street, sorority row! It's gonna be a good night boys!
One of the greatest songs ever, and a video revealing the innocence of the band and the new medium called music video. My favorite moments are Loz Netto smirking and the background vocals with not one backing person at the mic (1:53). Still a groundbreaker and a timeless classic.
I've always said this song belonged at the beginning of the '70s and not the end, it was such cool retro, and like some others here, drove me crazy trying to find it, too. Great stuff, nice to find a vid here.
sometimes a group produces what turns out to be a classic, and this is a perfect example. to my knowledge they never produced anything that remotely troubled the charts or airwaves, but i bought this and it is still a regular on radio 2-not bad lads!
This song drove me nuts for years, I'd heard it years ago when I was like 10 or something and then it disappeared and then I'd catch little snippets somewhere's now and again and I'd go crazy trying to find out who did this absolute masterpiece. It wasn't until I saw Boogie Nights on T.V one night that I finally nailed it down, Sniff 'n' the Tears! What the heck kinda name is that for a band??? Anyways, one of my all time faves, incredible tune.
Doing alright A little driving on a Saturday night And come what may Gonna dance the day away Jenny was sweet Show a smile for the people she needs I'm trouble, let's drive, I don't know the way you came alive News is blue (the news is blue) Has its own way to get to you What can I do (what can I do) When I remember my time with you Pick up your feet Got to move to the trick of the beat There is no lead Just take your place in the driver's seat
Doing alright A little jiving on a Saturday night And come what may Gonna dance the day away Jenny was sweet Show a smile for the people she needs I'm trouble, let's drive, I don't know the way you came alive News is blue (the news is blue) Has its own way to get to you What can I do (what can I do) When I remember my time with you Pick up your feet Got to move to the trick of the beat There is no lead Just take your place in the driver's seat
This song is about Driving not Jiving.....I remember watching a special on VH1 as a kid called mispelled lyrics and the band members said the proper lyrics are a littly driving on a saturday night...after all read the title of the song, which makes more sense?
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. I just wish they didn't cut the end so short--it's missing the last few notes which gives this song that extra bit o' kick.
The other guitar in the vid is either a Hayman, or might be a custom made guitar based on a Hayman. Hayman was a U.K. builder back in the early-mid 70's. I have never seen a Hayman with a Gibson stop tail bridge. The headstock also isn't anything like the Haymans that I have seen.

Actually, if he was doing fills or varying his beat too greatly, or worse, showing off, then it would be to the detriment of the song, the intent is monotonic, hypnotic and he is in a minimalist repetitive groove, he's doing a bit more than it seems, too........Anyway, just my two-cents worth.... :)

You got it. But it's a club remake of it.

The drummer has the most boring job in the world. lol
Love the song though.
