  • Cecilia, a beauty!!!!!!!!!

  • Breathtaking! Simply gorgeous!

  • Cecelia's version is exquisite:) For all of you who love this piece, be sure to check out Montserrat Cabelle's version too.

  • HERMOSO

  • HERMOSO

  • VIVALDI STILLED EVERBODY

  • THIS IS GIACOMELLI

  • Amazing !! <3

  • Gorgeous. :)

FYI, the composer is actually Geminiano Giacomelli. It was attributed to Vivaldi for some time because he used it in 'Bajazet' - which was a pasticcio - but it was actually written by Giacomelli.

  • I see, all the SopranosFans already have made it very clear where they know this piece of music from.

Its just too awesome, the pine barrens ep ends with this and the next one starts again with this music.

  • Pine Barrens.

  • A Beautiful song with a beautiful voice!

  • sublime!

  • What a wonderful voice! If I had to describe my vision of being on a cloud, I would say that it is listening to Cecilia's' interpretation of this equal work of Art that is Vivaldi - Bajazets'- Sposa son disprezzata. It brings tears of joy everytime!

  • Her voice is flawless here. Such beauty, clarity...and a somber subtleness of tone, that really makes this piece heart-wrenching. It's not in anger, or hatred...it's just lament. Her pianissimo phrasing, is so clear and controlled, and it greatly heightens the air of sadness that this piece brings. Such crystalline lament, can only be produced by musicians of the highest quality, truly this an incredible rendition. Brings tears to my eyes, and shivers down my spine. Perfection!

  • Davvero, Cecilia ha una magnifica voce !!!! Come vorrei cantare come lei !!

  • She has the most amazing voice of any diva ever.

  • @1operamom Yep!

  • What an amazingly beautiful rendition of this song! I've been going back and forth between her performance and one by Montserrat Caballe. I don't see how anyone could possibly say one is "better" than the other, just different and a matter of personal preference. Both are incredibly talented singers with beautiful voices.

  • anyone who had a broken heart will understand and find a way in cecilia's singing to find a way to tanscend the pain , and turn it into beauty.

what an artist!what a gift! thank you.

  • So incredibly beautiful! It's a shame so many of these Bartoli video clips are such low resolution/quality.

  • i smoked a cigar to this.. it was nice and quiet in the house too it made it better

  • awesome :)

  • The most beautiful voice I have ever heard - absolutely unparalleled.

  • does she says "Danke" at the end?

  • Absolutely profound... Breathless, especially when one takes the time to translate every word... Bravo Cecilia! Bravo!

  • i'd rather listen to the HQ version of the song : cecilia bartoli - vivaldi - sposa son disprezzata

Bravissimaaaaa

  • I am just going to say thank you Sopranos

  • @kimagidu lol I realised that Bartoli is a mezzo, not a soprano, right after I thumbs-upped your comment XP

  • there are 30 unknown people who can't spend time learning about what real expression is all about!! Grande Cecilia!

  • She has such perfect phrases! =D

  • Merveilleuse Cecilia Bartoli .

  • Intense. Without a doubt, profound.

  • Thank you Sopranos

  • simplemente maravilloso!!!! gracias por compartirlo!!!!

  • voice of an angel...

  • more than perfect. the best singer alive!

  • Tony : You got mayonnaise on your chin.

    Paulie: What?

    Tony: Mayonnaise,Mayonnaise !!!

Paulie: Oh? (wipes chin looks out car window into the woods)....cut to this music.

    Got to love the Sopranos.

  • @Ballerfella2007 I don't understand, what is this, please??? Thanks in adv

  • @thomastmwc those are the last lines from a episode of Sopranos, called Pine Barrens. After those lines, the episodes ends with this music...

  • @thomastmwc If your a Sopranos Fan from the HBO series there is a line in the show where this dialogue is spoken between Tony Soprano and Paulie. It is in a episode called "Pine Barrens" they used this song Sposa son disprezzata throughout the show it was tastefully done. Check it out Season 3 Sopranos Episode 11 "Pine Barrens" its kinda of gory but one of the highest rated shows in the series. Hope this helps.

  • @Ballerfella2007 they also opened the next episode Amour Fou with the song. Crazy Gloria.....

  • @Ballerfella2007 Sopranos had the m

ost incredible music ever, spanning a dizzying variety of genres

  • I studied this aria long time ago, at the beginning i didn't like it. I was to young to understand. But now, thanks to Cecilia, i love this music. Very sad. She can act and sign so well.... I love her! And being italian helps a lot in studying music, expecially opera music ahahah i'm lucky ;)) Cecilia i love you <3

  • the russian is alive! took the car and hit fuckin' atlantic city

  • WHERE'S THE RUSSIAN? I SHOT HIM, I KNOW I DID!

  • @davyjames He is eaten by squirrels. ROFL

  • Bartoli singing this makes me shiver! I could listen to this on repeat forever!

  • Wayne McGregor has created a very beautiful dance duet on this aria at the beginning of his latest choreography named 'FAR'. Movements are sweet and delicate.

  • After hearing this for the first time on "Arie Antiche" I was fortunate to see Cecilia perform this live with Il Giardino Armonico and was breathless throughout. Now, having seen her sing this song with four different piano accompanists, I can't pick a favorite. No matter, in my 61+ years on this planet, this still resides at the very top of performances I have ever heard, by any singer. Ms. Bartoli is a gift from God.

  • @hoyode49

You are right she is just sublime. She understand music and words from the heart. I adore her singing.

  • Cecilia just took me to heaven ^.^

  • Merci Cécilia c'est tout simplement merveilleux

  • She is really great.

I first heard this during "The Sopranos" episode "Pine Barrens" and have loved it since.

  • strange - this is the music from giacomelli's metropa

"sposa nin mi conosci"... strange strange....

  • @pr21pr21pr21

    From wikipedia:

The music for this aria was not composed by Vivaldi. The aria, originally called Sposa, non mi conosci, was taken from the Geminiano Giacomelli's opera Merope (1734), composed before Vivaldi's pasticcio Bajazet. It was a common practice during Vivaldi's time to compile arias from other composers with one own's work for an opera.

  • @Micantropo78 Wow he wasn't given the proper credit than =/

  • @pr21pr21pr21 It´´s not strange, Vivaldi didn´t compose the whole thing, the opera itself is a "Pasticcio"

  • Brava♥

  • Phis piece of music is absolutely stunning! it is the most beautiful and moving sound I've ever heard. full of emotion and performed in my opinion flawlessly. i love it! Life is good :)

  • so much emotion, its incredible

  • HELLO WORLD

  • shvartze - how wonderfully eloquently your last sentence is - it expresses my sentiments exactly.Thank you.

  • the note a 5:09 gave me chills!

  • i love u vivaldi!!!!

  • An incredibly beautiful performance by this beautiful artist. I love how deeply emotional her coloratura passages are - not only a showcase of techqnue, but also well integrated and stop your breath with the emotion.

  • I am a 26 year old male. I'm into drum n bass and dubstep. I play piano, and as such have a broad range of musical interests, but my entire life I have sworn that there are only 2 genres that I don't like - country music...and opera.

    Then, I heard this.

It was at the end of a Sopranos episode, and I sat transfixed through the closing credits. By the time it finished, I was crying. Actually crying! Despite what you might think, I'm mentally stable. No music has ever done that to me before. Ever.

  • @superzoli I know the exact episode, it is the episode called "Pine Barrens" Christopher and Pauly take out the russian to kill him. This episode stuck with me because of this song. It brought me to tears too. Goosebumps and shivers down my spine. This is a powerful piece of music sang so beautifully that I can listen to it over and over again. She makes the vocal trills seem effortless, absolutely flawless!

  • @Jholanaar Yep, that's the one, the Sopranos has an awesome soundtrack in places. I'm so glad I came across this, and even more so that I have found Bartoli singing it!

  • Could someone please translate this into English... This is such a Beautiful song, I would really love to know what it means.... Please post the lyrics.

  • @greatgreatgrandma Wife, I am despised. Faithful, I am outraged. Skies, what have I done? And still he's my heart, my man, my hope. (here she doesn't sing the following part) I love him, but he's unfaithful, I'm hoping, but he's cruel, will you let me die? Oh God, I'm lacking of strength and courage. (literally "there is no strength and constancy")

  • @Ancestratos Thank You for posting what this song means... It's Beautiful !!!!

  • No one can sing Vivaldi better than Cecilia. Divine!

  • I love every performance of her.To me she has a natural voice, that is splendid as NIAGARA FALLS,of course on CANADA side!!! She is incomparable with any Divas.

  • cecilia bartoli ,mezzosoprano italiana me dejo boquiabierta simplemente tiene una tecnica totalmente impecable mis mas grandes felicitaciones

  • How can someone not like this? nevertheless 26 people!

  • All on Earth is nothing when you hear her.

  • Please, no more intellectual comments on this video and her... and Her VOICE... You don't even know how to feel... shut up about the technique, the voice, the pianist, the piano and anything else. If you don't feel her painfully in your hearts, you don't have the right to speak... She is a Titan. Because she can make famous a song and because she is so so commented... She is forever.

  • your pianist is your left hand... your voice and feelings are divine...

  • please, beloved Cecilia, kill me with your voice right now... oh... you have already killed me... I just didn't realised it...

The Best ist Katia Ricciarelli

  • I can't imagine singing this beautifullly. If only I could, I would die happy.

  • I love this performance! But I hate watching her......

  • prekrasno!

  • Perfection.

  • Brividi brividiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. Semplicemente superba.

  • 25 people are deaf

  • @Gwynnie5

26 as of 15th December 2010, but I believe they are not deaf, they are idiots, and more idiots are to come; statistically, there are more idiots than intelligent people on earth; please don't be discouraged by that...

    A rare…pure…original...

    Elegance...

    Or...

    Just a dream...

    So peaceful…so graceful...

    A priceless treasure to enjoy...

  • how could someone not like this? Such a beautiful piece...

  • Gorgeous...I'm glad a popular show like The Sopranos can make opera seem as cool as it truly is.

  • @LaHermite very well said, my friend. my words exactly.

  • This is a wonderfull and beautiful song. When you hear Cecilia Bartoli singing Vivaldi Sposa son disprezzata you soul is at peace. Listning to this song on mp3 closes the world to you, when you feel and hear the beauty and sadness this song possess.

I also heard this song the first time on the sopranos. But since then its just so much more than a simple sopranos song.

  • There are many wonderful renditions, but Cecilia's rich mezzo and thoughful dynamics, her "baroque sensibilities" here, make this, for me, the best and

most beloved of any version I have ever heard (and there are many wonderful

    sopranos who sing this.)

  • Cecilia's continuity from beginning to end is extraordinary. She shows up flaws in every other singer that dares to attempt this piece. None of the others can touch her subtle phrasing and the emotion that tears at the heart. This girl is so sensual! Her sex appeal is off the chart. I wish she had stayed exclusively in the lieder field. The tradeoff of vocal volume in lieu of minute detail was not for her. A crystalline whisper of a note from her is all it takes to make a wall crumble.

  • @shvartze Well, I just could not ever dream of putting it more accurately, agreed 120%.

  • @shvartze Bartoli is good here....and I agree her Coluratura is just good enough enough to do this....Her Legato phasing is really good....She should just stay away from anything with demanding Coluratura....

Vivica Genaux's version of this is also excellente.(see the civileso posting here with the score)

  • I heard it on Sopranos too. It matches completelly... perfect...

  • one of the saddest songs I´ve ever heard. It makes my heart bleed...

  • The most beautiful piece of singing I have ever heard, and yes, chills and tears is what this performance brings.

  • I like her voice. It is very full and rich. She is very pleasant to watch and is very expressive. Excellent control and she is very focused!

  • Brings me to tears each and every time.

Cecilia Bartoli is a gift from God, and we should all cherish her for as long as we live!

  • Her voice now sounds better, though shes fabulous here, as well!!

I adore this piece in "Sacrificium"

  • Her phrasing is amazing

  • 4:54 - 5:13!!!! ♥

  • Sumi Jo's breathing control is better; yet Bartoli's rich voice and everything else tips the scale with this piece in my opinion. Both ladies touches my heart with their angelic voices, and the words they sung that came alive with full of emotions.

  • A beautiful aria & sung beautifully & with much feeling !!!!

  • Superbe

  • CECILIA TIENE ALGO MAS QUE VOZ.... ELLA ES MUCHO MÁS QUE UNA CANTANTE....

  • Brava, Cecilia! Please, don't divert back to Romantic music (as you did last before your Castrati repertoire album), Cecilia! baroque is your element!

  • Brava, Cecilia! Late 90-ies recording, I suppose?

  • that is just beyond beautiful

  • jednoducho anjelské....

  • wow makes me cry everytime i listen to it jusat simply marvelous!!!

  • @BrightonCynic i know right i counted 12 beats of her holding her breath and the aria is so so slow what great technique

  • Piano and the voice of an Angel

  • ¡FANTÁSTICAS, TÉCNICA Y VOZ!!!

  • Simplesmente Maravilhosa!

  • this is my feeling to her ,the feeling from my heart and soul, thanks God for let us hear your voice ,

  • can you feel it? the hurts of a wife scorned by her husband in every single melodic. it is love and it is cruel. what a dazzling performance. the best version is Bartoli's.

  • stunning Bartoli's in every single performance. i listen to this aria pretty lot "sposa son disprezzata" deeply moving, perfect!

  • Il signor Georg Fisher mi sembra decisamente bravo :D

  • Here Madame Bartoli is really gorgeous. The accent is perfect, excellent "fioriture" and interpretation. She makes this air not as an echo of a distant voice of a desperate woman: she is inside the character, and suffers with him. Substance of very good technique, and sensitivity to search wonderful colors in "fioriture" also.

    It's just only my opinion.

    Lorenzo Mariani

  • @giasone85

Lorenzo, you have described it so very aptly, well observed.

  • Cecilia Bartoli has the Perfect, Beautiful Mezzosoprano voice as well as being drop dead Gorgeous!

  • Cecilia Bartoli is AWESOME!!!

  • beautiful

  • Prick

  • @goodguysdoll Do you play the piano yourself?

  • @goodguysdoll ....Who is pretentious here? The guy on the stage performing for an audience and film shoot? Step off!! No one is impressed by you..you are no musician.

  • p.s. Thank you ... Smoothiw ! This is free gift to us witch is PRICELESS...like Sun, Air & Water !

  • No comments...I'm speechless...

  • I love this song

  • Comment removed

  • Hats off ladies and gentelmen...THIS IS ART!

  • It would be fun to go back in Vivaldi's time.......impress them with some cell phones, I-pods and .......Cecilia Bartoli.

  • Fantastic!

  • i love metal and trance but this is the real shit i love it!!!

  • So this was on the Sopranos soundtrack, the second one right?

  • @Nganguen pity he didn't write this one!

Il n'a pas écris cet air.

  • Excelent!

  • Perhaps my favourite song of all time. Absolutely Wunderful...

  • Absolutely stunning, one of Bartoli's most memorable arias. Lovely, gorgeous and haunting.

  • merci :)

  • Perfection !

  • Cecilia è splendida in quest'aria. Brava, brava, brava!

  • superb!!!

  • perfect

  • heard this first on the Sopranos 'Pine Barrens' cant get enough of it

  • Love this piece. i too heard it on the sopranos and fell in luv with it♥

  • interpretazione orripilante

  • I problemi semmai li aveva lei all' epoca.
