I am a member of a family of 7 siblings, raised by a mother who worked as a custodian in the Memphis public school system, & yes received food stamps, but all of her kids hv Associates, bachelors, & Masters degrees, and so do their children, who are teachers, business owners, Registered nurses, & Engineers, & Studying to be pilots. At the same time though, the idea that poor children can work and get paid to do certain things around their schools isn't entirely bad, nor is it new. "Work Study" programs can be found in many places, that help students earn a little extra money, provided you have the grades. That can be expanded a little.
I grew up in a single parent home with a mom who worked all the time, and we were poor. Ramen noodles was a staple at times because rent and utilities took most of her money. So Mr. Gingrich you know nothing about families who are poor. I have a great work ethic, believe in working for what you want and never giving up I didn't need to clean toilets to learn this, I had a working mom who taught me about life.

@Kloborgg Well, contrary to your blind assumptions, Newt's plan in no way takes away financial support in schools from poor kids (who may or may not be of a certain race [I thought the democrats wanted a colorblind society so stop pointing out race!]). Also, Gingrich has consistently said this will take place as an AFTER school job. It would not be during recess. My school already has a similar program in place and all the students love it because it gives them a job and a chance to make money.
Don't try to tell Newt isn't against welfare programs. He clearly knows race is an issue (watch his SC debates), and if your school has the kind of jobs he describes your school is breaking federal law.

At the same time though, the idea that poor children can work and get paid to do certain things around their schools isn't entirely bad, nor is it new. "Work Study" programs can be found in many places, that help students earn a little extra money, provided you have the grades. That can be expanded a little.

I grew up in a single parent home with a mom who worked all the time, and we were poor. Ramen noodles was a staple at times because rent and utilities took most of her money. So Mr. Gingrich you know nothing about families who are poor. This guy just seems like he has skeletons in his closet, and he seems pretty uptight. The kind of person I'd be terrified to have as a Father or a relative. It's as though he knows the system enough to know what to say, but it just doesn't feel true. He's got some of the mid to higher class salivating. Honestly, he just seems like somebody who wants leadership and that's all there is to it.

Well, let's see here... which would be MOST beneficial to the nation as a whole. Funding poor populations to have indefinite employment outcomes in the future, which is not only bad for the economy, but unfair to those who aren't "rich" but can afford school? (and mind you, PUBLIC SCHOOL IS FREE!) These people already get enough tax breaks! Or just giving them every possible benefit so that they can join the unemployment mass when they graduate from their tax-funded education. You tell me, hmm?

@Kloborgg Well, contrary to your blind assumptions, Newt's plan in no way takes away financial support in schools from poor kids (who may or may not be of a certain race [I thought the democrats wanted a colorblind society so stop pointing out race!]). Also, Gingrich has consistently said this will take place as an AFTER school job. It would not be during recess. My school already has a similar program in place and all the students love it because it gives them a job and a chance to make money.

Newt Gingrich is a confirmed 33rd Degree Mason - When he dumped his wife that was diagnosed with MS he confided in a former friend that she was not good enough to be the wife of a president.
