  • hey i had to put a shim on the back of my starter. on my 58 300

  • The starter drive's spring is too worn or loose. I had a similar problem with my Edsel.

  • TYPICAL WITH A OLD 272.292.312. OHV FORD MOTOR AFTER MANY YEARS 3 THINGS IT COULD BE 1 THE RING GEAR ON THE FLY WHEEL WORN.2 THE BENDIX SPRING NOT DISENGAGING FROM THE SHAFT.3 SHIMMED STARTER.

  • sounds like the starter needs to be shimmed or the overrunning clutch needs to be replaced on the stater.
