  • what a whistle! what kind is it?

  • Hello pdxsteam - I don't know the name of the whistle, but I believe it's the original whistle for the locomotive. However, it's been recently replaced with what they call the "611" whistle, which is deeper-sounding.

  • @shafferfox Check out my comment to pdxsteam. It will tell you the correct answer.

  • It's a Canadian whistle apparently off an 4-6-2 somewhere.

  • Daniel your right on the button there , these whistle is in face off of a CNR 4-6-2 5588 sitting in Windsor Ontario, beautiful whistle to be correct..

  • @pdxsteam No it's not the original one. Look at a video called Pere Marquette 1225 Shepard, MI. That's her real whistle. The whistle she's blowing in this video is off of CNR 5588. A steamer that is trying to get restored.

  • @pdxsteam The whistle sounds like either a 5 or 6 chime and it's off of CNR 5588, a royal hudson or pacific.

  • damn to much wind noise

  • You're right, Randy, but it was a really cold and very windy morning. I think I now know how to block some for the next time.

  • Well, it's official, 4449 is going to Michigan!!

  • That's a really great shot of the 1225 in cold winter conditions. Too bad that these modern day video cameras have absolutely no wind-screen to protect against all that wind noise.

  • Hey EssChee, I've thought about that wind noise problem, too. Maybe put some cotton over the mike. I don't know, but may try it.

  • That'll be a good thing to try next year. If you could make it, come to Portland to see the 4449 and 700 next December. You won't be dissapointed!

  • wow thanks for sharing, I love slow steem shots. Wind, snow, sleet, below zero temp, U have just proven the dedication of railfans all over

  • I thought I was on the Erie RR 1939, near Jamestown, NY! Cool!

  • I like it when 1225 has 611's whistle better. No offense to 1225, just her regular whistle is too high pitches for my tastes.

  • Thanks much! Alway's good to see the 1225 working! I like seeing the old Ann Arbor caboose as i had a great uncle that worked for them. Recording in winter ain't easy,Well done! 5/5 Rich

  • Thanks cuzinitr. It's great living here, and the railroad industry is booming here again. I bet your great uncle loved living here, too.

  • An amazing video, I have the greatest admiration for your commitment to that shot in such difficult conditions..well done..5*..Bob

  • Thanks for the kind words Robert. I'll have to admit that it does get a bit nippy here at times in the winter.

  • Yes, awesome! I'll never moan about the Westerly wind in the UK again!! 5*. Thanks for sharing and even more thanks for standing in the howling gale and filming in the first place!

  • Well, thank you, Mike. However, I think one of the coldest mornings of my life was during a morning in London in 1985.

  • awesome
