ichill69, Dude, there are 4 guitar players (one is playing bass, blond hair guy, hello) , organ player, 2 horn players, drummer, and a guy on percussion not to mention 3 back up singers. Yea, small band.
Hes my favout singer i have met him in newtoon abbout outside the cider bar ie him he didnt lik pooo poo ppooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo THANKS FOR LISTING
if i tried to sing like that i'd start coughing and have a sore throat. . ... . . .and i sing pretty good. . ... winwood's gifted in so many ways and it's that voice that propels the whole thing. not to mention a fine mind
Some good points around.Steve's vocal maintains the spirit of the original. They do the necessary, tight guitar, bass riff upfront and the drummer smashes out the beat ( he's on it). Agree with gittahfiend about the horns.
It does sound better than the old one, his voice is better...great...classic...

I think this newer version actually sounds better than the old Spencer Davis Group version.

This guy started singing in English pubs at age 16! His voice kept him from being thrown out for being underage

Two reasons why this song kicks ass:
1. The catchy bass riff.
2. Steve Winwood's voice.

@11thedogfather Well I'm not sure his voice had finished changing from puberty when he first recorded it. He's only 49 years old in this video.

Winwood has never been pure rock since he tried to reinvent himself at 19. He's too intelligent to be pure rock and roll like say Clapton.
He will always have a big band with horns, still does to this day because he likes jazz too.

You'll always be great Steve, you brought some really terrific tracks to enjoy, good on yah!

Thanks for the info on the drummer. Man the bass line in this baby sure keeps it together though this number! That's one thing that has'nt changed.
