  • God rest his soul but this was typical roger nielse nonsense always going after the opposing teams top player in the playoffs. They did the samething to LaFontaine in the 91 playoffs.

  • Thanks for posting

  • Lemieux was, and always will be, a punk. He was a great player, but like Crosby, has absolutely no heart or toughness. Makes you wonder if he ever played pond hockey as a kid, or was he raised on organized hockey where the refs were there to blow the whistle every time it got a little rough.

Waiting for this to be voted down by the fair weather Pens fans, who abandon their team when they're not winning....

  • @algorithmatic

Yeah because overcoming cancer wasn't tough. You can't possibly compare it with Crosby, considering defenders got away with a lot more back then and literally would cheap shot him, but still couldn't stop him. There's a reason why Lemieux got standing ovations from New York fans in '93, Philly fans in '97, and Detroit fans in '09. People respect him, and you're a minority in comparing him to Sid.

  • @algorithmatic

Oh another thing...Lemieux had a BROKEN WRIST on this play. It's not like a Crosby-ish dive.

  • @SuperTugz - You Pens fans are proving over and over your recent bandwagonish habits. Lemieux did NOT have a broken wrist - he faked it - leading to Graves's suspension. Lemieux never wore a cast, and played again 10 days later. It's over and over cited as one of the worst moments in his career.

About cancer, tragic as it is - lots of people beat cancer - and God bless them all for doing it. That doesn't make Lemieux a great player because he did what many others do.

  • Nice dive by Lemieux

  • @LS6Z28

Dive? He had a broken wrist you idiot.

  • @SuperTugz Its just a wrist, what a cry baby

  • interesting how history comes full circle. Now its mario who as an owner is responsible for Matt Cooke.

As far as Crosby goes his slew foot on Ryan Callahan tells me all I need to know

  • At 1:40, Pierre MacGuire with a combover.

  • @journeythruthepast Yea, def Maguire, he was the Pens assistant coach for a few years. Graves deserved that suspension, but taking his career as a whole Adam was a very responsible, blood & guts hockey player for the Rangers, there's a reason his jersey is retired in MSG. All the countless off the ice things he did for the community and kids with cancer were outstanding. Can't crucify a guy for 1 thing he did very early in his career.

  • Lol early goals in the playoffs. This is so familiar.

  • The Rangers tried to take Mario out with a cheap shot and it backfired big time. The Pens rallied, took the high road and beat em in 6. Poetic justice. The Rangers totally DID NOT deserve to win that series. Pens win! Pens win!

  • @charliefromchina Typical.... Rangers are garbage & always will be garbage.... the year they won the cup they got lucky & it was only because of the fact that they had Messier on their team....

  • Lemieux broke his wrist cause he liked to wear those stupid short little gloves that gave no wrist protection. Having said that it was still a nasty little slash by Graves.

As for whoever said Messier was a better player than Lemieux.....really? Like, really?

Lemieux was one of the laziest players to ever play the game, but he was also probably the most talented. The guy scored 200 points with a bad back, and he was a heavy smoker who never practiced. Who the hell can do that?!

  • The great thing about this is that despite the fact that the Rangers knocked 80 goal scorer Lemieux and 50 goal scorer Mullen out of the series, they still only managed to win 2 games. You gotta feel pretty inferior as a team after that.

  • @son0fearth Well, the Rangers lost Game 4 of this series on a fluke blue line goal that Richter allowed in from Francis. That doesn't go in, the Rangers go up 3 games to 1. Instead, it was tied 2 games each. That game deflated the Rangers and they never recovered. I'd hardly call the Rangers "inferior". They won The President's Trophy that year, they had the best record in the NHL. The breaks went the Pens way in the playoffs. That's hockey. Rangers won the Presiden't Trophy in 94 and the cup.

  • @son0fearth The Rangers were missing MESSIER in this game, an even better player than Lemeuix. And they won. So stop trying to act like the Penguins were God's gift to hockey. They got a lucky break in Game 4 and took the series. So shut up already.

  • mario and cindy <3

  • Both the Penguins and Rangers were loaded in 92

  • The Mario cocksucking lovefest on here is hilarious. Mario was a bitch.

  • How was Mario a bitch?

  • @CtrlRm a fucking crybaby!

still today along with that brat crosby!

who by the way was gift wrapped to pittsburgh to save them from bankruptcy!!

  • @TheTzdope Sounds like a true Flyers fan, if we cant have him, he sucks.

  • @TheTzdope he broke his wrist moron. You're the fucking pussy who talks shit behind a computer screen. Lets see you face nhl players, nerd.

  • What a gutless little puke.

  • Graves has done so much charity work for children and is as 1st class a huma being as they come. ANYONE insulting him isn't fit to be called a human being.

  • @bbasher79 Well Right, both Graves and Sir Lemieux have done great things off the ice, but it is easy to see that Graves INTENTIONALLY did a 2 handed chop to Lemieux, and wasn't even aiming for his stick. Not exactly a shining moment

  • @bbasher79 really? ANYONE who takes an intentional cheap shot like this deserves to be called out with justified anger. Note: most celebrities and athletes do charity work and donations, it's not a rare event.

  • OK, If you have EVER watched hockey than you know that EVERY penalty killing forward in the history of hockey uses his stick to hack at the hands of the puck carrier. That was a fluke accident, and Lemieux has even admitted a few years back that it wasnt't a dirty play. Calling Adam Graves, a class individual who spends so much time in the community horrible names only serves to show the posters ignorance.

  • @stormcrow7878 don't make excuses for this dirty play. Graves wound up the stick like a baseball bat and swung...that wasn't just a hack....

  • @jimsty19889507 Well if you wanna vilify a guy you just don't like, go ahead. Since Mario had no problem with it, and Graves missed more time (Boy the NHL really protects those babies in Pittsburgh, Lemiuex, Jagr, Malkin and of course the biggest whiny bitch of all Crosby) than Mario did in that series. Graves is a class human being all the way, if you don't wanna believe it OK.

  • @stormcrow7878 The hypocrisy in your statement is so glaring it's fucking hilarious. I never said nor did I ever imply I disliked Graves. I simply put forth an opinion on this specific incident and I did it without calling him names. YOU on the other hand cited out 4 Penguin players and called them babies and Crosby a whiny bitch. So if you want to "vilify" certain players you just don't like, go ahead hypocrite. Your obvious biased perspective on this incident lost you your argument..

  • If someone did this to Ovechkin in the playoffs, they would get way more than the punishment Graves got. Then again Ovechkin would have to win the Cup first, before he was trying to defend it the next year

  • Heh, Ulfie tried to throw the net off, like 5 seconds after the goal was scored, then complain the net was off... What a guy!

  • Lemieux won an oscar for that acting.

  • Lemieux's hand was broken, dumbass.

    That's not acting.

  • @FAITHandLOGIC how do you act out a broken wrist? Were the doctors in on it too? lol, that has to be the dumbest accusation I've ever heard.

  • I can't believe they honor garbage players like Graves... This guy has no class. A Hockey stick is also a dangerous weapon. Mario would never try to seriously injure someone no matter how frustrated he was.

  • Mario has slashed plenty of players and hurt several in his career, hes as dirty a player as Graves was.

  • Can someone call the NHL and tell them to please bring back these jerseys and the others worn at this time, the new jerseys today look like SHIT!

  • I remember this when it happened, stupidity on the part of Graves, can't Samurai chop someone like that.

    Dumbass.

  • Comment removed

  • love the blueshirts and gravey but wow that was brutal. even if he doesnt get hurt its a wreckless play. thing is if mario wears a real pair of hockey gloves he doesnt get hurt. many of the top players including gretzky took padding out of thier gloves , shoulder pads and elbow pads so they had better feel. result was that if they got breathed on they could get hurt.

  • Lemieux acted his way to a broken wrist Cancer and the Hall of Fame,if that's a pussy i'll take that over a coward 24/7

  • that's where crosby gets his diving from

  • slashing at 2:58?

  • Rangers were the BEST team in the NHL in 1992 (Presidents Trophy) but lost this series on that fucking 60 foot LUCKY ASS FLUKE FRANCIS blue line goal. Shit happens but damn, we should have won in 92 AND 94. Least we have 94, oh and fuck Mario.

  • Rangers will forever suck..... keep buying all the players you want.... it wont help.... New York transforms talent into waste

  • Lemieux is a pussy he was and still is the biggest actor to ever play the game, he is so good that he was offered a contract from Broadway to play in a christmas carol.

  • Yea he faked that broken wrist?

  • Graves is a little bitch!

  • Is it Graves fault Mario is a pussy??

  • He swung his stick at his wrist like he was chopping a tree with an axe. He's a pussy because it broke his hand?

The only way you could stop Mario back then was to cheapshot him. Cancer couldn't even stop him.

  • @AnnieGS a broken wrist that healed in a few days!!!

  • @TheTzdope It hadn't healed. It was taped up and put in a brace so he could play, but it hadn't healed.

  • Kris King was such a great playoff performer for the Rangers....what a shit trade trading King and Tie Domi for that hump Olzyck

  • To kingns1: Dude, I was watching the Pens when they played in the Civic Arena probably before you were a "gleam in your mother's eye". So maybe you better shut your yap, ya jagoff!

  • First of all, 99 pecent of pens fans on these videos weren't even old enough to follow the 1992 Pens, so shut your yaps

Secondly, the pens were a better team and deserved to win, but Graves did a textbook tactic to try and knock Lemieux off the puck. Unfortunately, he caught him in a bad spot. Graves was no goon. he was a 50-goal scorer for crying out loud

Lastly, can we please keep Crosby out of the Lemieux/Gretzky discussions. Crosby is a very good player overhyped by the NHL.

  • @kingns1 first off Graves was a dirty player..for ex., he had 139 PIM that year out of 80 games...that's a dirty player. Secondly, winding up your hockey stick and then swinging it like a baseball bat is a textbook tactic? That was clearly not a hack gone wrong...that was intentional. Thirdly, the game is played at a much faster speed today with thicker pads on the goal tenders. If a kid at 19 can accumulate 120 points in 79 games in todays era, he deserves the praise he gets. You're just biased

  • @jimsty19889507 Graves was a power forward. He wasnt dirty. Stevens and Tocchet both had more PIM's than Graves in 1992. Were they "dirty"? Saying a player is dirty off of his PIM totals is one of the dumbest things I ever heard of. Back in 1992, slashing a guy with two hands was a 50/50 call. If Mario doesnt break his hand, it's not even called.

  • @kingns1 "saying a player is dirty off of his PIM totals is one of the dumbest things I ever heard of" - that's the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Really high PIM mean either two things... You're either playing consistently dirty (or just consistently dumb) or you're a fighter. Graves was dirty and that shouldn't be negated because he could score goals. That's retarded. And btw, the was clearly not a slash you biased idiot. Just get over it. Graves intended to use his stick as a weapon.

  • @jimsty19889507 OK moron, outside of the Lemieux slash, when was "dirty" Adam Graves ever suspended by the NHL? But what does the NHL know, right? It guys like you who still live with their parents who can be the only ones to give the last word on whether a player is dirty or not. Oh, by the way, look up "Mario Lemieux and Todd Krygier" hahahahaha

  • @kingns1 What I don't understand is how you're blatantly negating 139 PIM. That's a consistent record of penalties. Are you implying that it was just by an unlucky coincidence that Graves accumulated all of the PIM in that year? lol, that's ridiculous. Graves was a dirty player and it is especially shown here. He looked and aimed for Lemieux's wrist, wound up and swung. Again, you're just biased.

  • that was a standard penalty kill play back then, the fact is lemieux wore shorter gloves which led to his 'broken' wrist...amazing how it healed so quickly for the next round though

this series turned on the 60 foot slap shot by francis from center ice

  • what the fuck, are you implying that Mario faked that injury? Bullshit. Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. I have herad this theory before, and it makes no sense. The Ranger dangers had the best record in the NHL then. Why the hell would Mario skip the series intentionally? That was a cheap shot man, GET OVER IT!! By the way the penguins must have been a hell of a team to beat the NHL's best team without Mario after losing the first two games. Btw, that was definitely a major penalty.

  • which part of the argument makes no sense?

lemieux took a slash to the wrist that for anyone else would have hit padding

he drops to the ice, misses the rest of the series, and tells anyone that will listen that roger nielson ordered a 'hit' on him

    adam graves is suspended

the penguins go on to win the series, lemieux comes back to play a week+ later, then, with a broken wrist, lifts the 35 lb stanley cup over his head

    lemieux has a long hi

  • lemieux has a long history of complaining about hits and whining about the nhl being a 'garage-league'

adam graves was vilified as a thug, a goon, a scumbag, etc

did lemieux fake it? we'll never know...but based on his previous actions i wouldn't say it was out of the question

and btw, if you watched the nhl back then (and in the 80s), the hack to the wrists was standard for penalty killers

  • Wish the Devils woulda found a way to trade up for Lemieux in the draft

  • That sonofaBTCH !

  • Fuck the rangers and there fans!!! I hope they fold in the next year or so and move the team to Mexico.

  • Lemieux went down more often than a hooker on her 'john'.

  • I like Graves but that was a bush league move.

  • That's why Graves was suspended. Subsequently, Ron Francis had 7 goals & 12 points to eliminate the shameless Rangers in 6games. To this day Lemieux says the Rangers had a bounty. Nice baseball swing. It just didn't work. Errey shadowed the goalless Messier. 1940!

  • it was not a dirty play. it doesnt even look like he got the wrist but rather the glove. and it figures lemieux said there was a bounty, hes the bitch who go hurt genius. if it was an intent to injure they wouldnt have wanted graves to do it.

  • Ok if you type so bigstick. Why was he suspended? How many guys get suspended for a slash? Rangers Suck & they are at it again. 87lays on the ice in game 1. Avery rakes his stick across his face. 87 is at center ice in game 2 & Avery slashes his hand when the puck is nowhere in site. Sound familiar. Avery slashes Fleury's glove when the puck is nowhere near the net then spears him. Next he runs for safety from BGL & Gill. Shanahan pulls a reverse Avery in Fleury's crease with his arms up. FU

  • If you think this was an accident, please tell me what in the hell was Graves trying to swat with his stick when he "accidtntally" slammed Lemieux.

I'm sick of retarded people whose bias is so bad that it interferes with their vision.

  • bigstickhockey9 , You're such a damn expert, answer the question! What was Graves swatting at with his stick??

    Flies?

    Snow flakes?

No, Graves is a professional hockey player and knows where his stick is and what he's doing with it.

Don't you just think it is possible his stick landed just exactly where he intended it to land? That sure is what it looks like you blind biased fool.

  • Big Stick..Wouldn't have Graves take a chance of getting suspended? The Rangers bascially traded Graves for Lemieux, I think they'd take that every time...Even without by far the best player in hockey, the Pens still won in 6. Looks like this years series won't last quite that long.

  • yeah i know

ive conceeded the series in my own right

    penguins/detriot

    detriot in 7

  • Watch you be wrong.. I shall laugh

  • Trade Sidney Crosby are you stupid you don't trade him for anybody.

  • dome1972 = moron

  • The GOON RANGERS knew they couldn't handle the Pens. So they break Lemieux's hand on purpose bcs of a bounty. Nice elbow to Mullen's face to. Knock 2 stars out of the series to "try" & win. However, Francis carried the Pens right past the Rangers easy. It reminded me of the Pens 1st round sweep of the Rangers years before. Mario comes back miraculously fast & leads the Pens to the Cup. 1940!!!!! 1940!!!!! Now the Rangers think they can beat the Pens with a washed up bum like Jagr.

  • Yep. Even if Jagr is at his best, he won't be able to match Malkin or Crosby, let alone both of them.

Drury and Gomez would have to play out of their lives, and of course, Lundqvist would have to play like JS Giguere in 2003 for the Rangers to even have a chance. Pens in 5.

  • wow

  • dome1972, what are you talking about? I dont know how u just pulled that out of ur ass...trading Crosby...LO FUCKIN L

  • Dome, you're just dreamig that hte pens would trade sid to your fave team

  • It's OK, when Malkin is up for a contract he'll go to NYR to be in Brightin beach with the rest of the Russians. There's a reason Russian players hate Pittsburgh, so I look forward to a Cherepanov-Anisimov-Malkin line in a few years.

  • word is around pgh that the pens are going to offer malkin a deal like ovechkins. long term 10+ years. so, sorry out ur thoughts.

  • They can't afford to pay that kind of money for both Crosby and Malkin and still be able to have a winning support staff.

If they drop that kind of money on Malkin they will fall into the same type of problem that Tampa did.

They should trade Crosby, because he's currently signed at a reasonable level, to pick up the support they need to make a run in the next two years.

The salary cap is proving not to be the saving grace that small market teams thought it would be.

  • LONG TERM CONTRACTS GO LESS AGAINST THE CAP. If you have a smart enough GM he can make it so it will work which I think Shero will do fine in working out. Plus look how much talent we have in our minor league affiliates we will be fine. "Trade Crosby" Dome1972's quote. . . LOL you wish we do do that 87= Penguin for life.

  • I've got a feeling that Crosby will not be the "next one" so before the rest of the league figures this out they should move him and pick up talent that will allow them to win right away.

I also have a feeling that Pens management may be thinking about something along these lines when they traded away Christenson and Armstrong for Hossa. They are very much aware of how much Crosby and Malkin will impeed their personnel management in the near future.

  • As far as long term contracts are concerned it is questionable whether they are a smart move in the cap world. The NHL is still learning how to deal with a cap while the NBA has done so for a significant period of time.

The NBA has seen long term contract dealt to Kevin Garnett and it negatively affected them for years as they struggled with personnel/salary issues.

The formation of a strong supporting staff is more important in the NHL so a long term contract may be even more harmful.

  • Teams in every sport build teams around one or two guys so a long term contract is not harmful a great player can make they players around him better. as far as your comment about "I've got a feeling that Crosby will not be the "next one? I believe you are highly mistaken, he won league mvp, scoring title, and lester b in his 2nd season, and this year he just got injured cant help an injury.

  • The only person I would swap Crosby for is Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieuex in their prime.

  • Key word there Is yet.

  • Some of the brightest stars never made it to the HOF. Glenn Anderson, Pavel Bure and Eric Lindros. Crosby hasn't even demonstrated that he could get to their level let alone make it to the Hall.

If the Pens didn't have Malkin I would keep Crosby but they have to acknowledge that two high priced stars is not in the best interest of the teams success.

It's just like a stock portfolio... diversify, diversify, diversify.

  • Well, your hoping anyway.

  • what the fuck is a chop..........

  • A fluke goal Richter gave up to Francis is the only reason the Penguins beat the Rangers this year. So dont talk too much shit, Penguin fans. Rangers were the best regular season team in 1992 and 1994 and we won our last cup more recently than you did.

  • Fuck the mario injury. how about the general, brian leetch play and goal was amazing

  • JD said it was "a chop more than a slash," so that means.. WTF, JD?

  • it means he used his stick like an ax. cheap shot by an otherwise honorable player.

  • ......*care

  • i were reading the comments on this page and i want to say to all you sad, bitching depressed rangers fan...we are better then you....FACT. we have a bigger fan base cuz people in pittsburgh car....FACT. get over it, noone in new york can play hockey...i should know, ive lived there. o yeah, last time the almighty pens won a stanley cup, early 1990s.....TWICE, in a row...jagr played better in those days too!!

  • You know what's funny, the Rangers actually had the balls to bitch about a penalty being called against Graves. What a bunbch of fucking scumbags. Lets go pens!!

  • what a cheap shot by Graves, he's a scumbag!!!! But alls well that ends well the Pens didn't lose a game after this and won the Cup again!!!!

  • Adam Graves is acually one of the nicest, giving people ever to play hockey, ask anyone around NY...he was also a tough SOB to play against and got suspended for this as he should have, Graves was NEVER known as a cheapshot artist outside of this 1 incident early in his career.

  • last time i checked the rangers made it to the semis the little penguins only one game

  • last time I checked, The Rangers were at the bottom of the division.

  • i hope this idiot was thinking about this post at the end of game 4.

    SWEEP!

  • "i hope this idiot was thinking about this post at the end of game 4.

SWEEP!" Well since we like to post on comments from 5 months ago lets remember who won the season series (since that was what that was about) .yup us... Game 4? sweep? we shut you out in in game 4 dude there was no sweep ;)

  • Rangers will have another 54 losing season drought and good old bald headed fag messier won't be able to get them out of it. The rangers can't do shit against the penguins have they ever.

  • The rangers suck, and they knew they couldn't do shit against us without messier in the line up. Adam graves is a little bitch, if mario and him ever fought mario would of clocked his ass out. Messier is a bald headed piece of trash. Every one knows mario lemieux the greatest player ever, so their fucken jealous and hurt him. Waynes is a bitch so no one would bother with him.

  • NY is sitting firmly in 7th and keeps climbing up. Looks like Pens might be almost in their sights.

  • last time new york was good without messier?

oh yeah they went out and tried buying all kinds of star power including ex-pen jagr.

  • Last time the penguins won a stanley cup??? Last time pens were actually decent without sidney crosby??? ohh yeaa they havent been

  • The Penguins rule! The Rangers drool! They can't even buy a Cup! Losers and cheaters!

  • This statement might have made sense in 1992...

  • Last time I checked in 2007 Penguins sit as a fourth seed for the playoffs....where are the Rangers?

  • umm what happende dto the pens in the poffs yeah thats right you lost bitch
