Anyone interested in cigars should take a look at this deal thompson cigar has going on at this time, for $20 I just now bought a ton of variety of cigars that was completely worth it! Thompsoncigar-PH16.Co.Cc
I also have a cabinet humidor, of course not that great. I bougth a electronic humidifier for the cabinet and i don´t know were to put it. In the higer part or in the bottom?
@pachalito It depends on the type of electronic humidifier. If it is a single unit with hygrometer inside the base, then i'd put it about half way up in the back. If it has a separate water reservoir attatched by wire to a hygro, then put it about a third of the way up in the back. In that case, the hygro is placed near the top of the cabinet. All of this is slightly less important with a smaller cabinet.
@docstogiefresh Hey Doc, love your work! I'm looking to buy my first humidor to keep my stogies fresh at home. Just looking for some tips or advice so I get the best home for my cigars. Is there anything you recommend? Thanks mate keep up the good work.
ok first off if i had all those cigars id probably just stare at them. Way too expensive for my taste. Not judging by any means though. But also maybe a bit morbid but why not as a sort of send off you could get buried with a pack of your favorite cigars? Not trying to make you think of death but well it would be a cool idea. Have kind of an egytian pharoh type journey to the afterlife.
@canabeenzo Yes, the cigar boxes help to preserve some humidity inside the box, but they are not air tight. The relative humidity that is inside your humidor but outside the cigar box, keeps the moisture gradient low and the cigars in the box properly humidified.
@britney5996 None are "just for show." I hope to smoke as many as I can, but those I can't will be burned and scattered along with my ashed when I die.... LOL Just kidding.
nice! how does one get into getting a collection like this? Meeting cigars makers and such? I have a 50 humidor box with cigars from the local shop and a couple online. But man your collection is awsome.
@edwardinlbc Collecting cigars is like any other hobby that we enjoy. You first start by learning as much as possible about the hobby. Books, websites, podcasts, and YouTube videos. Then you purchase some cigars and smoke them and start collecting the ones that you really like.
that is the coolest home humidor i have ever seen. I too, am a huge fan of full flavored cigars. Could you give me your thoughts on some of the newer blends like the oliva's cain label and the cask stregth from 5 vegas also i would love to try your own blend from hondorus any chances on buying one from you. i have always wanted to through the combo of leaves i think would taste and burn great and have a professional roll it must have been a great experience
@brandonstacy8503 Thanks for the props, much appreciated. You can see my thoughts via my reviews. My reviews can be found in my cigar review directory at STOGIEFRESH or at my new site: STOGIERATE. Hah, my own cigars are going to sit and age for a long time. I don't even smoke them because I want to see how they will taste with long aging. Few more years, at least.
I can get confused on the aging process. The cigars are aged for several years at the factories, are they not? So why are there so many videos saying to age a cigar a couple months in the humidor to make them taste better or even aging them for a year in your humidor? So how does a month or two of aging in a humidor make a 5/6 year pre-aged cigar taste better?
@RocktronGamer There are two kinds of aging: aging of the tobacco BEFORE cigars are made. And, aging of the tobacco AFTER the cigars are made. Many non-Cuban companies age the tobacco a couple of years prior to using it to make cigars. Then, after they make the cigars, they might age those completed cigars for a few months (this varies by manufacturer). During manufacture, the wrapper leaves are wet to keep them pliable and it may take a few months to reach equilibrium.
@RocktronGamer The second part of my answer is that the completed cigars may have unequally moisturized leaves that need to attain equilibrium for the cigar to burn and taste well. Further, not all companies age their tobacco for a long time and there may be a need to age the completed cigars for longer period. This is especially true with Cuban cigars, where companies reduce the fermentation time and aging time.
Great video and you're just a flat out likeable guy. I'm smoking a La Traviata right now but I'd gladly trade it in for one of the many you displayed here.
@docstogiefresh - about a comment you made in this video. I'm pretty sure that the "private stock" brand of cigars is also made at the Davidoff Tabadom factory. It's a high value cigar, not a top label Davidoff cigar but its high value for the money.
@2011blueman There are three factories on the Davidoff "compound." The Davidoff factory only makes Davidoff and Winston Churchill cigars. Avo and The Griffin's are made in the "Okay Cigars" factory and "Private Stock" are likely made in the Occidental factory.
@cadeMFjohnson It's not necessary to remove cigars from cellophane and, in some cases, it can be counterproductive to do so. thanks for the quick reply, im new to this but its fast approaching obsession haha. your videos are inspirational and very entertaining to me.
yes i have been researching a lot since i asked. i thought they were air tight but now im reading they usually aren't but can offer some protection and still allow the cigar to age, etc. am i on track here?
thats a amazing collection and humidor! ive tryd low end cigars and thought they were not so great. i think im going to try some better cigars some day soon.
Too bad that probably none of them are Cuban. I Live In Canada, and I enjoy my cuban cigars very much(Cohiba, partagas, romeo y julieta, etc) You just can't compare Cuban cigars, they are just a work of art. Anyways nice collection and beutiful humidor.
Recently I got a little disaster in my humidor. I refilled the water supply as I normally do, but this time I forgot to check the humidity afterwards. Needless to say, the humidity got too high. As soon as I discovered this I checked all my cigars. The only Montecristo n°2 I had left got two small patches of mold on it. I immediatly removed it from the humidor.
Should I treat the area where the affected cigar was as contaminated, or can I restock in that same location?
@321bangbang123 Since you caught it in time, I wouldn't worry about it. Just wipe the mold off the cigar. This time rotate that cigar to the bottom of your humi. But, before that, be sure to air out your humidor to let some of the excess moisture to evaporate. 10-15 minutes should work.
Just got my first humidor yesterday now all I need to do is get some money and buy some cigars. So far I've tried a couple of Romeo y julietas some olivas and Alec Bradley. I love cigars the art and all that goes into them is amazing! Lol you have so Many cigars! Your lucky lol
@junior4199 The best cigar is the one I am currently smoking... LOL. Actually there are too many to mention. I like cigars of all kinds and there many many great cigars in the market right now.
im thinking about starting smoking cigars what type of cigar would you recomend for somone that hasent smoked anything (weed a couple times didnt like it and its illegal so i dont want anything to do with it).
@johnbadboysmith Ask your local tobacconist for good "long filler, bundles that are good smokes and reasonably priced." Bundled or House Brands can be great values.
I recommend cigars made by Oliva, Padrón, and Fuente. What makes these a great value is the fact that they are consistent from smoke to smoke. While not the cheapest cigars out there, they represent some of the very highest quality cigar in that price range.
I was recently introduced into cigars, and watching your video just pains me, they look oh so good, My only consolation is that here in Australia Cuban cigars are legal
Do me a favor and enjoy those cigars for me, they look damn fine
@sheao50 Ha, ha. I was just being a smart ass. Yes, I live in the U.S. and it is illegal for U.S. citizens to buy any Cuban goods (not just cigars) due to the embargo.
i just found you here on youtube..i was wondering if you have any recomendations for every day average cigarbrands..theres millions that are expensive with great taste but any standard brands that are great
@boulespuantes There are too many to mention. Do you have a favorite style or preference when it comes to cigars? There are probably 1,500 brands of cigars in the market. Cigar brands I would recommend you explore would be: Padron, Arturo Fuente, and Oliva. They have been making reasonably priced and yet excellent cigars for decades.
Hey Doc Stogie, just wanted to say I really enjoyed the tour and you have some interesting brands and blends there! I'm a Torano and Alec Bradley man myself. Although Padrons and Nub Cameroons hold a special place in my palate. haha. I just bought a pair of Partagas. One is a black. I've never had any of their brands so should be interesting. I'm guessing they're a nutty stick but you never know. Well, again, enjoyed the video!
amazing dude i want to be u when im older lol im am only 15 now but i have a big intrest in cigars my grandpah is cuban and has been smoking cigars since my age but my mom wont let me start now but im gonna soon
If it has gone completely dry, you should toss it. Although you can restore the humidity, it would a long, slow process to do it in a way that won't split the wrapper. However, the bigger problem is that, when a cigar dries out, it's oleoresins dry and evaporate. These oleoresins are what gives the cigar its flavors and this can't be restored.
No, I would say a couple of days, but it really depends on the humidity levels of where the cigar has been stored. If it is a dry climate, yes, a day or less. But if the humidity is 50-60%, then 2-3 days, maybe longer. It's not an exact science, by any means.
@docstogiefresh i dont understand how it would dry out in 2-3 days at 60%percent humidity..i have been keeping my humidor at under 70% will my very expensive cohibas dry out?
@jrocjams No, you are in good shape. Your Cohiba's are in good shape at 60-70%RH. The reason it is not an exact science is that humidity readings can have an error factor of +- 5%RH. Plus, some cigars may be wetter to begin with, or drier to begin with. So, I wouldn't fret too much about cigars left out for a few days, unless it is drastically dry.
@docstogiefresh oh at least 5 percent..i have a nice humidor and the rating on the humidor is 15 percent less then the digital i put inside..of course the digital could be off but i find it accurate when the humidty outside...again thanks for taking the time any suggestions on a decent cigar about the same strength as the romeo no.2? preferably a little cheaper the the cohiba robustos or the romeo no 2?
Doc, Question: I see that some of your cigars are still wrapped in plastic, arent you supposed to take them out of the plastic cellophane wrap to let the humidity get to them?
Truly an impressive collection. I started sampling and collecting 6 months strong(got the bug) On my second humidor. Will be traveling to Honduras and Belize soon any suggestions?
Trainer, if you go to Honduras, Danli is the city where most factories are located. I would call ahead to Camacho, Reyes Family Cigars and Rocky Patel to see what they have available during the time of your visit.
@voodooalchemy lol i bet you dont have a walk in humidor or anything for that matter..yer probably a big time loser with no money and more importantly no decent cigars
Hey doc anyway to tell a real cuban from a fake, I read a few articles and it seems most reviews say you will never know unless you actually purchase them in Cuba at a cert. dealer?
ive never smoked but have always wanted to try a cigar will be soon im aussie so cigar business in aus isnt as big as usa any beginner mild brands for a good price you could recommend doc
Yes, tobacco beetles can be a problem. I wrote a 2-part article on the topic, which can be found in the archives of the Stogie Fresh News. Go to the Stogie Fresh website and scroll to bottom and look for the archives link. You'll find the articles in the May 28 2008 and June 17 2008 Newsletters.
I've smoked many Anejo's in the past. I like them a lot. And, the Siglo is one that I've tried and liked too, but I think it may be a bit overpriced. Both excellent cigars, though.
nice variety, ive TRIED to like cigars, ive tried like 10 different kinds, and they all taste the same to me, sure some are abit stronger but they all taste like tobacco, even though the description says oh coffee, or chocholate notes, or cinammon, ive never tasted any of these, all i get is a nasty tobacco taste, and i did buy em from a reputable cigar shop.
if i were you i would keep searching for a little longer. theres hundreds, heck, thousands of cigars and you never know you could very well come accross a cigar that you would love. just my opinion and i hope u find your match. goodluck -Hunter
Usually beetles will hatch in high temps, not high humidity, though it's not good for cigars to have too high humidity either. Manufacturers usually freeze, or gas (or both) their cigars prior to shipping to retailers. So, there's really no reason to freeze cigars unless there is evidence of beetles.
Yeah, there are many good online vendors, but not all have the same inventory. So, it kind of depends what you want. Google is your friend. Google the brand and then do some price checking.
Question for ya doc, you have multiple boxes of cigars within your humidor, some that look to be wooden, if those are closed or still wrapped up how are they able to get moisture from the humidor?
I have boxes that are both just closed and wrapped in cellophane. Neither condition is completely airtight. Closed boxes will get some, though not much humidity from the environment in the humi. But humidity (and temp) moves readily in a gradient, but when the inside the box and outside the box humidity is nearly equal, there is no driving force for the humidity to "want" to escape.
Each cigar is different with respect to its ability to age. In general, stronger, fuller-bodied cigars have more aging potential (but not always). Many cigars have been known to age successfully for 10-20 years and longer.
Hi there, Great video.. seen them all and looking forward to the next one!
I wondered what you do to regulate the temp in your humidors? I'm currently using a fridgeador which works well to store my box purchases, but i wondered if the cabinet humidors have temp regulation?
The song is called: Mueve la Cintura Mulata by Cuarteto Oriente. Perfect! The song was part of the soundtrack for the 2001 movie Original Sin with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie.
It's called a "Set and Forget" system. Sits on the second to the bottom shelf and there is a fan on the humidification unit, as well as an auxiliary fan on the top/back of the cabinet. The unit has a hygrostat which you pre-set to desired humidity level.
LOL! How I wish that was true! I do get some gifts, but the vast majority of cigars I pay for. I discount shop as much as anybody else, but the prices I pay for most cigars are the same as the price that anybody can purchase at.
Hey doc have you ever considered just getting a walk in humidor installed in your home? with the large qty you have seems like a logical thing to consider. You could always open a cigar shop in your house to pay for it, hell you have the inventory...
What a huge selection.. you can run ur own lil cigar mom and pop shop! haha.. i would never get that many at a time.. all though im sure im missin out on good stuff ill just stick to gettin two to three at a time.
wooooow is all i can say... im jealous Doc... awesome humi.

I'm more interested as to HOW he has so many cigars!
DimeLivesInUs 1 year ago
The ones I don't smoke will go to my son and his sons after him. Cigars, properly stored, can last for generations.

if a cigar has been dried out. can you save it and put it in a humidifier? or once its been dried out its gone?
awesomeo123456 1 year ago
If it has gone completely dry, you should toss it. Although you can restore the humidity, it would a long, slow process to do it in a way that won't split the wrapper. However, the bigger problem is that, when a cigar dries out, it's oleoresins dry and evaporate. These oleoresins are what gives the cigar its flavors and this can't be restored.
docstogiefresh 1 year ago
how long roughly would it take to dry?? couple days or what??
Nickamsweet 1 year ago
No, I would say a couple of days, but it really depends on the humidity levels of where the cigar has been stored. If it is a dry climate, yes, a day or less. But if the humidity is 50-60%, then 2-3 days, maybe longer. It's not an exact science, by any means.
docstogiefresh 1 year ago
@docstogiefresh i dont understand how it would dry out in 2-3 days at 60%percent humidity..i have been keeping my humidor at under 70% will my very expensive cohibas dry out?
jrocjams 1 year ago
@jrocjams No, you are in good shape. Your Cohiba's are in good shape at 60-70%RH. The reason it is not an exact science is that humidity readings can have an error factor of +- 5%RH. Plus, some cigars may be wetter to begin with, or drier to begin with. So, I wouldn't fret too much about cigars left out for a few days, unless it is drastically dry.
docstogiefresh 1 year ago
@docstogiefresh oh at least 5 percent..i have a nice humidor and the rating on the humidor is 15 percent less then the digital i put inside..of course the digital could be off but i find it accurate when the humidty outside...again thanks for taking the time any suggestions on a decent cigar about the same strength as the romeo no.2? preferably a little cheaper the the cohiba robustos or the romeo no 2?
jrocjams 1 year ago
Doc, Question: I see that some of your cigars are still wrapped in plastic, arent you supposed to take them out of the plastic cellophane wrap to let the humidity get to them?
brinebot 1 year ago
You have a verry nice humidor Doc, and some cool special editions

Truly an impressive collection. I started sampling and collecting 6 months strong(got the bug) On my second humidor. Will be traveling to Honduras and Belize soon any suggestions?
Keep up the great work.
Best regards,

Trainer, if you go to Honduras, Danli is the city where most factories are located. I would call ahead to Camacho, Reyes Family Cigars and Rocky Patel to see what they have available during the time of your visit.

Is that a Boston terrier statue on top of your cigars!
Maxobillion 2 years ago
Yes, it's a Boston. Love Boston Terriers. I have two right now and I've had many more faithful Boston's in the past.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
That is so funny because I have that exact statue. My wife and I have a Boston too and his name is Doc. Named after Doc Holliday.
I love cigars too. I worked in a cigar shop when I was in college. some of the best years of my life were in that shop.

Hey Doc,
I hear some cigar people say that betels can hatch out of a cigar. Is that true and if it is how is that possible?
magic1926 2 years ago
Yes, tobacco beetles can be a problem. I wrote a 2-part article on the topic, which can be found in the archives of the Stogie Fresh News. Go to the Stogie Fresh website and scroll to bottom and look for the archives link. You'll find the articles in the May 28 2008 and June 17 2008 Newsletters.

Doc, Your collection is amazing, Ive been smoking a lot of Fuente Anejo' lately as well as Siglo by Altaldis, Do you ever smoke them?
-Tj
ThaxTj 2 years ago
I've smoked many Anejo's in the past. I like them a lot. And, the Siglo is one that I've tried and liked too, but I think it may be a bit overpriced. Both excellent cigars, though.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
How many cigars do you smoke a day? you have soooo many :P
Mr21Krames 2 years ago
Usually about 2 a day. Sometimes more.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
nice variety, ive TRIED to like cigars, ive tried like 10 different kinds, and they all taste the same to me, sure some are abit stronger but they all taste like tobacco, even though the description says oh coffee, or chocholate notes, or cinammon, ive never tasted any of these, all i get is a nasty tobacco taste, and i did buy em from a reputable cigar shop.
i guess i just not meant to be a cigar smoker.
beswick1111 2 years ago
if i were you i would keep searching for a little longer. theres hundreds, heck, thousands of cigars and you never know you could very well come accross a cigar that you would love. just my opinion and i hope u find your match. goodluck -Hunter

hey doc, what the deal with beetles.
is it true that if your humidor is too humid the bugs eggs hatch?
some people say to but the cigars in the fringe for a week when you get them. would this be bad for the cigars?
christianz2010 2 years ago
Usually beetles will hatch in high temps, not high humidity, though it's not good for cigars to have too high humidity either. Manufacturers usually freeze, or gas (or both) their cigars prior to shipping to retailers. So, there's really no reason to freeze cigars unless there is evidence of beetles.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
temps in the upper 70's and higher are not good.if i'm not mistaken 80+ is when the eggs start to hatch
SmokeRises 2 years ago
How did you get that big of a collection? lol. Do you know where you can buy good cigars online that does not cost a fourtion?
pmrpimp 2 years ago
Yeah, there are many good online vendors, but not all have the same inventory. So, it kind of depends what you want. Google is your friend. Google the brand and then do some price checking.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
Question for ya doc, you have multiple boxes of cigars within your humidor, some that look to be wooden, if those are closed or still wrapped up how are they able to get moisture from the humidor?
robbiegw 2 years ago
I have boxes that are both just closed and wrapped in cellophane. Neither condition is completely airtight. Closed boxes will get some, though not much humidity from the environment in the humi. But humidity (and temp) moves readily in a gradient, but when the inside the box and outside the box humidity is nearly equal, there is no driving force for the humidity to "want" to escape.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
Hey Doc! I love your videos! I just have a question for you. How long can you age cigars before they start to diminish in quality?
vonlorasteverachel 2 years ago
Each cigar is different with respect to its ability to age. In general, stronger, fuller-bodied cigars have more aging potential (but not always). Many cigars have been known to age successfully for 10-20 years and longer.
docstogiefresh 2 years ago
strong or full bodied cigars tend to age better.

Hi there, Great video.. seen them all and looking forward to the next one!
I wondered what you do to regulate the temp in your humidors? I'm currently using a fridgeador which works well to store my box purchases, but i wondered if the cabinet humidors have temp regulation?
Cheers...

what do you use to humidify that huge thing?
Cygnusx27 2 years ago
It's called a "Set and Forget" system. Sits on the second to the bottom shelf and there is a fan on the humidification unit, as well as an auxiliary fan on the top/back of the cabinet. The unit has a hygrostat which you pre-set to desired humidity level.
