The most disturbing and horrific sound I can imagine. Image being alone underwater and then you begin to hear it...It feels like there is something...Alien...coming for you...Just creeps the living shit out of me.
This is like the scariest sound ever. I don´t really know why, but this creeps me out. Maybe its because I feel the loneliness of the huge vast ocean, were thers nothing, but this sound.
@obenointment The people on the submarines did, people on the ships being torpedoed didn't, since submarines didn't use active sonar since it'd give them away, they used passive sonar which didn't make any pings. Anti-submarine ships used active sonar with the pings to find the submarines, so for the submarine crews hearing the pings meant the end might be near. If you already knew this then sorry but it seemed like you were thinking the submarines used the ping-sonar.
I love it and fear it forever. It has and will always scare the shit out of me, but there's something that draws me to it.

i find this sound to be one of the most intimidating sounds i know, even more so than a wild animal growling
