@crazyBrah21; For women and effeminate males. This says a whole lot about your view of the world. If you think understanding, i.e., being versus doing, is a sexist issue. then there is no point in discourse.
Liberal arts majors are for women and a few effeminate men so they can feel smart and good about themselves, but are useless in the real world and useless in look for employment (except for useless government jobs or useless college professors positions). For all the liberal arts majors out there listen up "Speaking proper and putting on a suit is not a skill".
Liberal arts education needs reform. These fields are good for personal development but they should not be pursued as pure majors on loans since they offer poor financial return. Creditors don't care that you learned western literature. Employers want you to have a technical skill not the ability to speak eloquently about Plato. By all means, pursue these studies but don't pay a fortune for them. Type Reform Higher Education Now in the search box on Facebook or click CollegeReform below.
Liberals Arts degree = waste of time and money. Talking white, putting on suit and pretending to be everyone's friend is not a skill. When you can talk your Liberal Arts professors into changing your grade you know your class is a joke. You can't talk your way into an A or B in the Hard sciences and maths, that's why most people shy away from these REAL degrees. I have way more respect for the Hard sciences and Maths, these people make more money, have better job sercurity and have common sense.
A liberal arts education with a concentration in a hard science still includes exposure to more than just your major. That's the point. The same goes the other way; a major in English will be exposed to science.
...further, studying a soft science has nothing to do with talking your way to an A or making friends. Common sense has nothing to do with the hard sciences.
After having made my comments, I like what is presented in this video about this school's intentions for merging hard science with humanities into a student's college career. They're advertising a school that intends on giving students a well rounded curriculum (a good thing).
@eathenicus if you're trying to persuade me to say that liberal arts majors basically have low prospects in the job market, I have to make that conclusion. Our economy demands science and tech' skills far more than anything you'll gain by getting a degree in the humanities. Quite frankly, I would not suggest that anybody waste 4 yrs to get a silly BA. The investment costs don't enable grad's to achieve a decent return on investment. Read College, Inc. Video's on Frontline PBS too.
I dont think there is anything silly about a BA. I agree that our work force is very tech based that some tech training is necessary. But the job prospects for many tech jobs are also getting low. Yahoo news just recently had a piece on many tech jobs that were once hot stuff but are on the way out.So while maybe a BA degree is not practical, there is nothing silly about it. Those who pursue a BA degree can get additional tech training at a vocational school and earn a AS or AAS degree.
Anyone who has no use for the Liberal Arts is ignorant. People who dont like reading books are living in a dark and painful world of ignorance. But then again for some peole they prefer the laziness of ignorance than the effort of being free. Pursuing the Liberal Arts is like taking the red pill, you start to see the real world and those who dont stay are just slaves in an artificial world. TWU should be commended.
@chicago618 Silly goof! you can pursue the same education without being dumb enough to pay and exorbitant price for it. What the heck are you going to learn sitting in class that you cannot learn on your own? I have a liberal arts education but I surely don't advocate that students be price gouged to get it. You can gain real experience by traveling the world instead of sitting through lectures.
@chicago618 excuse my silly "and" typo! I meant "an"
I do agree that much of the subject material gained by a liberal arts education is priceless but college isn't the only place to learn it. Really, the same books and knowledge are available for free. Today you can view lectures online for free from Berkeley and MIT. Plane tickets and travel excursions are cheaper than a year in school, especially for what you'll have to pay to attend a private college.
@Fantageous, Hey I am not saying that college is the only route, I am not saying that college is the end all and be all. Certainly I agree with whoever said if you want an education get a library card. I have always stated that the best education is traveling. My comment was in response to those who are saying that a LA education has no use in college. Not that college is the only route. If you do go to colleg you should expect a core curriculum. I just commeded TWU for having a LA curriculum.
@Fantageous Also you dont have to worry about typos, Im not a spelling nazi like some folks on youtube. These Youtube comment forums isnt supposed to be Shakesperean literature. I happen to also listen in on those MIT lectures and I was just listening to a UC Berkley lecture the other day. I am a believer in online/distance course work. That is a seperate issue then my original comment was addressing. College should still be a place for this kind of Liberal arts learning.
@eathenicus Of course they are ignorant. Thats why we call them children and we educate them. Unfortunatley the label children also applies to some adults out there as well as Im sure you agree.
I had a great experience as a music student at TWU. Great prof's not only in that field but History, Philosophy, Sociology, etc. A well-rounded educational experience with great opportunities along the way to connect with the professional world in your discipline.

@Fantageous But, what careers are liberal art graduates going to pursue? Answer this question for me.
