  • I would love to hear what John Deacon is doing in his life, post Queen. Great song writer, musician, bassist, and inspiration to Queen fans everywhere.

I'm a bassist/vocalist/songwriter. I have been playing for more than 20 years and I still find it hard to achieve John's spirit on the bass. Miss you Deacon John!! All my best. Peace and Love, JPW

  • He took his millions said "see ya" and disappeared in to retirement. Happily!! Good for him!

  • For clarification, Queen were nominated for a Grammy for Another One Bites the Dust but did not win the award.

  • John never enjoyed the spotlight indeed.a very unassuming and shy man.

  • okay, my mistake. That sure was a long time ago, now that I think about it. The song is just as good as it was then. Rock on, Queen fans!! And don't forget to correct the band's history, moonpie99!

  • John, come out of retirement, we need ya baby!!!!

  • Deaky! I totally respect your decision to live a private quiet life, but it sure would be cool to see you play with Brian and Rodger, just sayin

  • He wrote "Another One Bites The Dust." Queen won a Grammy for that song. He was definitely a contributing member to that band; they all were. They all made QUEEN. One without the other does not make sense. So there you have it. I wouldn't have it any other way. Would you?

  • @meanjeanass Sorry, Queen never won a Grammy.

  • @moonpie99 He and Roger Taylor showed up to accept that Grammy. I wondered why it was those two who went up there. So I looked it up and he wrote that song. Look it up. I hope I didn't dream that.

  • @meanjeanass No you did not dream it. It was the AMA awards. They won Favorite Pop/Rock Single of the year for 1980. The show aired in 81. I remember watching it.

  • No Deacon No Another One Bites the Dust! lol Deacon is the Man! And He has Every Right to feel the way he does! If he wants to play with Brian and Roger Again yea we would the fans Would Love it..But If not What can you do! At Least we have all the wonderful Albums to last a Lifetime! Let Us Cling together as the Years go by!

  • John can do anything he wants to do, and his dignity won't allow his life to be dictated by a bunch of naysayers. John played for Queen for a long, long time.

  • played bass for Queen and he is the writer of Another One Bites the Dust

  • As a Queen fan who loves Freddie. John Deacon is the "5th" bassist and a leach. Very few know who Deacon is... I challenge anyone, ask 10 people who is "John Deacon" without mentioning anything else.

  • I personally think Deacon should recognize how much money and fame Queen brought him. He was by far NOT a founding member, the 5th bassist, and got damn lucky. Sure, he is good, but you could replace him (as they did) anytime.

If you want to be a musician, expect to play for your fans.

You don't just quit and walk away.

He never was part of the interviews after Freddie died either. From the documentary, it seems Freddie & Deacon had their fair share of arguments.

  • @MaxxGladiator But they didn't replace John. Queen kept him because of his quietness. John also wrote 3 of their biggest hits.

I think he has every right to retire just like any ordinary person who wants to enjoy the rest of his life in peace. I guess he just doesn't want to carry on with Queen without Freddie judging by what he said about Robbie Williams singing a cover of We are the Champions.

  • Listen to the bass line in Millionaire Waltz......WOW

  • Happy Birthday Deaky!

  • much respect to Brian and Roger for not calling it quits and continuing on the musical journey, that said though to call it Queen when the band changed forever nov 24,1991 is kinda wrong,go with a different name. It's diluting a legacy to pop up on american idol backing some flash in the pan or having a musical,I can't believe they need the money or are so egotistical that they can't go 2 months without popping up somewhere. Ringo Starr doesn't call his current band "The Beatles" does he?

  • @bloodsling I feel the same way. I esp. don't understand why Brian and Roger put their songs in a lot of commercials---do they really need the money. They are too much of legends for that.

  • Miss John Deacon a lot, I wish him the best. And yes, he's a great but humble bass player. Very rare these days.

  • I saw Queen many times when they really WERE Queen; Freddie, John, Brian, Roger. If it had been John who died I would still feel the same about not wanting to see the remaining members play under the name Queen. They are not, after all, Queen; they are someone else. I remember in a long ago interview Deacy agreeing with an interviewer who said Queen was greater than the sum of it's parts. I, too, agree with that assessment, then and now.

  • John Deacon - one of THE most under-rated bass players of all time.

Flawless sound, great time, and great little touches here and there which often go unnoticed.

  • i hated when brian may and roger taylor continued with queen without freddie and without john. it seemmed like they were trying to profit over freddie's death. :s

but they are still great players, though.

  • @bijeleudovice2 Gotta agree with you there.

  • it would be awesome for him to come back out and do more stuff.

  • @drbrandovalentine Wait and See - Something 2012 Olympics or H.M. Queen Diamond Jubilee, who knows but never will better occasions present themselves ever again. So, John, it would be a breakthrough..

  • very interesting

  • I've seen this pic before, I think it was taken in the Canary Islands (Spain)

  • Thanks for the music, John. What a talent you are! We'll always miss that. I respect your choice, but I gotta say it -- consider one moment of comeback. Just one moment. Freddie would encourage it. One moment. :)

  • He still looks te same but whitout his fluffy hair!

  • Come Back Deacky and go with your parentes Paul Rodgers!

  • John you look great as usual... Take care! I love you. We all love you!

  • wow is that what john looks like omg lol!

  • JOHN BACK TO THE BAND!!!!!!!!! ONE TOUR... JUST ONE TIME AGAIN... I'VE NEVER SEEN YOU IN CONCERT!!!

I HAD BRIAN, ROGER, MOTT THE HOOPLE REUNION, IAN HUNTER & MICK RALPHS, BUT NOT YOU... COME BACK JOHN

  • John è il mio preferito, dopo Freddie. Ha un'espressione così bella quando sorride... e poi ha scritto le canzoni più belle!

    Grande John!

Come vorrei che il tempo tornasse indietro, vorrei vedere i Queen per sempre...

  • question what has two thumbs, a shitty green shirt and is a dick head? the guy on the right.

  • Just amazing, such a quiet and unassuming guy wrote some of the biggest songs in the world. The guy's a national treasure. What a hero!

  • no Freddie Mercury,

    no John Deacon,

    no Brian May,

    no Roger Taylor,

    ==============

    NO QUEEN !!!

  • I see the point of John not wanting to play without Freddie anymore,Queen is not the same without both. But i was glad i could see the "Return of the Champions" show because to the one of us who were too young to go see the real Queen live,it was a dream come true. But certainly things do have their time. But Queen music will never cease, never die, never silence! God bless John!

  • wow john deacon relly got old

  • NO FREDDIE&JOHN DEACON, NO QUEEN

But Queen+Paul Rodgers it was a good thing. I can see Brian May and Roger Taylor.

  • Nice to see John again after so long. Thanks for the music John.

  • I enjoyed the Tribute to Freddie Mercury; but I can't see Queen goes on. Queen is the original 4 men. Brian, Roger and John can go on and be big again in their own rights; but they cannot go on as Queen. No one can make you feel genuine emotion from the highs to the sad lows like Freddie did. If he were singing in another language, I think I'd still have the appropriate feelings. Something about Freddie. Every time I heard a song I thought must be Freddies and I was wrong, it was John's.

  • @tjrtherocksponge Thanks for your response. I'm glad to know my feelings about John and Freddie were correct.

  • @tjrtherocksponge

Knowing nothing, I always felt a closeness with Freddie and John, but Ive never seen anythings to tha effect. John did not even show up at the end of

Freddie's life. Can you tell me more about that. I felt so sad when Deacon did not show up for Freddie at the end.

  • where is the picture taken? it`s the first time i`m seeing john deacon ...anywhere. after ages...

  • John, you are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE this song :) The lesser known Queen songs are some of the best!

  • @righteousgroove I agree. I love 'Doing All Right', 'Dragon Attack' and 'White Queen'.

  • Queen is over!

  • MASTER , ONE GREETING SINCE PERU, CONTINUE PLAY HIS BASS AND PROGRESS IN ELECTRONIC

  • In reference to the Queen movie I became so excited when I found out that John had agreed. This tells me that this movie is going to be done right. For years Hollywood has been hounding Queen and now, all of a sudden, all parties have agreed. I trust Brian, John and Roger's judgment.

  • @Yo1969Yo Hey hello, please tell me what movie you're talking about? qhere can I watch it?

  • @Oxtankahn They just announced the making of the movie. Filming will start next year in 2011. Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) will play Freddie. They haven't announced who will play Brian, John and Roger. I would love for James McAvoy to play John.

John, even though he was the quiet one, was an amazing, smart excellent musician. He wrote some classics plus he wrote & played that famous bass line in 'Under Pressure'.

  • @Yo1969Yo Where did you find out that John had agreed? I think nobody have known about him in ages!! What does he do? Where does he live (I think in Australia)? What does he think about Brian and Roger presentations? I wish I could know all that....I admire QUeen as one of the best bands in whole history....

  • OMG, thankyou so so so much for posting this.. I missed him so much.. wondered what he is doing these days and how he looks now... Well, I would say nice as always.. His face always showed that he has a kind heart and is a nice guy.

  • googd old fashioned lover john deacon

  • @brian49112 nooo... You and I

  • @missthilde20 I know was for joke LOL (i'm italian)

  • he looks so old, good times are gone away...... :(

  • As a fan i would be happy to visit a Queen-concert (of course without Freddie)- it should be a nostalgic great moment. Why stop playing even if Freddie has left us?

Brian and Roger are brilliant, anyway- and gives a lot to there fans!!!

  • WOW!!! where did you see him??? i always wondered wat he is up to???

  • Where have you got the picture?

  • John did it right and left the band - he didn't betray itself like Brian & Roger did!

Freddie died and with him died Queen - but not in our hearts and not in our minds!!!

  • Good ol' John Deacon.

  • Got to love John. An indispensable part of the greatest band EVAR! And what a GREAT tune off of A DAY AT THE RACES! One of my favorites!

  • Long life, John, and thx for tavaszi szel!

    Dave from Budapest

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN!!!

    Congratulations and celebrations from Sweden.

  • Happy birthday John ,from Romania

  • John is a good example of how one can be stimulated and inspired by good surroundings(in thie case, they are other Queen members). In early days, John was completely minor of the band but his part in Queen grew larger as time goes by

  • @Xcorgi Why the hell would you attack someone like that! What is wrong w/you!

the man lost one of his best friends & decided that there is no Queen w/o FM. He did the repsectable thing to do and he always was such a nice humble guy. I would rather see them all split up before I want to see them preform w/ another front man! FOR GODS SAKE! do you think that it would be the same playing someone as god awful as Adam Lambert. He's retired now & living his life w/his close friends and family..

  • @Xcorgi And your the fucking turd! Let the man have his own life!

  • @shahrzad1893 While we're at this whole "live and let live" sentiment, why don't you let this person have his/her own opinion? This site is rampant with baseless idolatry for you to take comfort in, what's one unfounded demonization, hmm? It's not as if the subject gives a damn. Had Mr. Deacon passed on instead of Freddie, I have no doubt Freddie would have been compelled to continue making music AND that none of you would've boycotted his efforts on account of Ol' Deaky. Get a grip, willya?

  • @mgeek71 And why don't you mind your own business instead of commenting on my reply I posted about a month ago. I have a right to post my disagreements to someones obviously uneducated comment. And if you had been a Deacon fan you would've noticed that this Xcorgi guy has been posting this comment on anything with his name on it. On your argument that Freddie would continue on with his music without John I'm sure he would. But that doesn't replace the fact that Freddie is the vocalist and...

  • @shahrzad1893 You know, I almost waited a month to send this, just because you mentioned it, but after reading your replies, you seem to be taking this awful hard, so. I took exception to your two-sentence post that (a) berated someone for voicing their opinion and (b) issued a direct order to let John have his own life. There was no civil statement of disagreement. That would have been fine. When you say "someone's obviously uneducated opinion", what are your qualifications exactly?

  • @mgeek71 Now, why don't you take your own advise and stop trying to comfort yourself on the thin knowledge you are trying to show. There are a lot of loyal Queen fans out there that I'm sure will side with me rather than you. And I do not appreciate you trying to educate me with your opinions!

  • Comment removed

  • @mgeek71 John is the Bassist. Now it is obvious to me, and maybe to you, that nobody in this world can pick up a microphone and belt out a beautiful melody the way Freddie could, but in the case of the bassist there is always be someone just as good or better there is no defining characteristics in one persons ability to play the instrument that will make it impossible to recreate the same effects with another person. Unless you build your own custom instrument, which is the case with Brian May.

  • @Xcorgi

You only speak for yourself at the moment. Queen fans want John Deacon back for sure, but we all respect his decision to choose his own life.

  • would be wonderful to reunite all three one more time ( before is too late ) and invite the best singers they colaborated with ( ex: George Michael, Elton John, Adam Lambert, etc...) It would be a memorable concert ! and the fans and Freddie's spirit would be so happy and so proud !

  • Please Deaky come back =(

  • Awwwwwwwww Deaky!!

  • If that's really John Deacon, I'm suprised he doesn't get mobbed by fans by just going out in public casually like that without bodyguards.

  • I love john deacon he's an amazing bassist. He was probably the most reserved person in the band and I respect his choice of retiring although I would like to see him play one more time with brian and roger for old times sakes but that's his choice. Ironic tho that deaky gave queen their biggest hit in the u.s with another one bites the dust. Not bad for the quiet one I guess when deaky speaks people listen.

  • he is still the best looking guy in the pic love you jd

  • I agree with Abisso. Once Freddie was gone, it could never be the same. I could not bear to see "Queen and Paul Rogers" - what a travesty. Let the fabulous memories of the original four live forever and stop recreating what isn't there. Roger and Brian have done wonderful solo work without needing to bring on has-beens like Paul Rogers. God Save The Queen.

  • John Deacon ,was always a family man who had trouble playing in a band that got as big as Queen did.He longed to be in the background.Look at all their live gigs....he'd rather be stage left hovering near the drums.

Not all supergroup musicians need or want the lifestyle it can bring or offer.Anyone with half a brain who has followed Queen can see John Deacon was only able to go so far being a rockstar. He had a choice at the end.All you

"fans" giving him a hard time....stop it !!!

  • please john, we are all begging you join roger and brian for a reunion concert. just one night would be all that were asking for! King of the Bass! hes the reason why i play bass!

  • GREAT SONG.GREAT BAND.DOES anybody notice how the transitional part of the song sounds like the beatles ringos/harrisons photograph???its even the same chords,F TO B MINOR. LOVE DEACON

  • without john deacon there is NO QUEEN !!!

  • oohhh I miss him!!!!

  • its such a pity john deacon doesnt want to be involved in the music business anymore .. . . fantastic bass player . . .i hope he doesnt realise too late that he should never have given it up. . .anyway john come bace we miss you

  • John said: I'm glad its over. Face the truth, people: There's a time for everything. Remeber: He did it for decades, nearly his whole life, he just wanted to do something else before he dies ;-)

So give him a rest, he deserves it so much.

Thank you John, for everything! We'll always remember you. Thank you so much, All the best. We are with you.

  • @DonFuegoTube If John Deacon truly made that unqualified statement and was referring to his stint in Queen, with all due respect (aka none) the man is an ungrateful ass. I can't believe he's still brimming with bile about a profession that he's been out of almost as long as he was in at this point. Not the paragon of retired bliss I'd like to emulate. If he feels that way, then I have to believe that he quit because his hair line no longer camouflaged his lobotomy scar.

  • @DonFuegoTube Exactly right. He did it; it was good, and like everything, it ended. Nothing wrong with that

  • @DonFuegoTube john could do atleast one youtube video!

  • @DonFuegoTube I agree with you 100%. The only thing I feel sorry about is that John didn't release any kind of statement saying goodbye or thanks to the fans for all the years of support. He just walked away without a word to the millions of people who supported him and Queen all those years. I hope he's enjoying a quieter life now and spending quality time with his family.

  • dang! he's old now!

  • No Freddie--no Queen, no John Deacon--no Queen, no Roger Taylor--no Queen, no Brian May--no Queen, no Queen--no good music.

  • @Sinagitarius ditto

  • @Sinagitarius +1 :)

  • @Sinagitarius couldnt have been put any better

  • @Sinagitarius Damn you're right!

  • John Deacon doesn't move much these days

  • John Deacon one of us!!!!

  • gustazo volver a ver a ..... Mr John Deacon !!!!

  • Great pic and song! :-) John is missed by every Queen fan but should respect his privacy long live Queen!

  • i think that john didn't like being famous but he loved the people/audience. I have heard his fame made him depressed but i don't know. all that is known is that he loved his family and friends and wanted to proctet them from his fame. many people change career so john changed career after leaving Queen but of course he could do a youtube video for his fans or write something on his website. He could actually record an instrumental song and spread world peace and still live his secluded life.

  • Wherever you are John, I hope you are happy and well. We love ya !!

  • It's TRUE.......No Freddie.........No Queen.

  • John wasn't even at the Rock n Roll hall of fame tribute to Queen. I think he just doesn't want to play at all.

  • When Freddie was still alive, I remember reading an interview that he can't imagine playing for anyone else than Queen. And without Freddie he doesn't want to play with any other band. John is the type who doesn't like change. He even walked out of the Queen Musical because he didn't like the direction and was upset with the Pepsi commercial. Queen and Freddie is very sacred to him, even though him and Freddie butted heads many times.

  • He looks so happy!:D <3

  • Where are you dear John???!!!

  • Magari vpotessi vederlo suonare ancora con Brian e Roger.....MITICO John!!!!!!!

  • If there is gonna be a Queen reunion this 2010, all hell's gonna break lose!! Tickets sold in just hours!! IT WILL BE EXCITING!!

  • He still has his sweet smile!! <3

  • mitico bassista........grazie

  • NO FREDDIE, NO QUEEN

  • I don't know the real reason behind Deacon's choice to leave he band... but I respect this choice, and I like to think he did this since "No Freddie means No Queen".

  • @Abisso666 Queen lives, I disagree, these guys are extremely talented and I believe they honor Freddie by continuing to play without Freddie, Queens playing keeps Freddie alive.

  • @Abisso666 That's true...

  • @Abisso666 I think his reason was basically what you said there, he felt that Queen had finished now and wanted to spend more time with his family, understandable really I would have done the same, but he was very supportive of Taylor and May continuing, they still keep in touch.. or at least what I have read.

Still would love to see him rejoin Queen, but it isn’t going to happen :D

  • @Abisso666 I think that's why he did it. I think he never ever got over the loss of Freddie either personally or professionally. Everyone deals with grief in their own way, and I guess this is John's way. He had to do what was right for him, and Brian and Roger have to do what's right for them. I think they have all honored Freddie's memory in a way that true friends would. I still can't get over though, that he didn't turn up for Queen's induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.

  • @Cathie8791 I think the reason John didn't attend the R&R induction was because Freddie wasn't there. Even though it may not seem like it but John was very close to Freddie. Freddie was the oldest and John was the youngest and I think Freddie treated John like a little brother. All three took it hard. To this day they still mourn. Brian even contemplated suicide because of three things: his marriage was failing, his dad's death and Freddie's illness.

  • @Yo1969Yo Brian really went through a depression circa 2000. When Anita Dobson left him, he was quoted as saying, that Freddie is lucky not to see what Queen has become. That was the time, Queen became a faded memory and overlooked. Of course Anita came back, they finally got married, Queen was inducted to R&R Hall of Fame, they toured again, all the new bands are swearing to how much they love Queen, plus the Queen musical was a smash hit. God save the Queen!

  • @criznueve I didn't realize Brian went through another depression in the '90's. I know Brian said he was really down when his marriage to his first wife was failing. Freddie's death affected all three more than we will ever know. Today Brian looks so sad. The media constantly pulled Queen down, even when Freddie was alive. Pissed me off. Now because of YT people are seeing how great Queen really were, especially Freddie.

  • @Cathie8791 It took John years to finally come out of his shell and only when Freddie's coaxed him that he started writing songs and contributing more to the band, whether doing more interviews or having more say to the the album and the direction of the band. I think he didn't go because Freddie wasn't there. Imagine if Freddie was alive, he'll tell John 'Darling, you simply must go. We'll have one spectacular night. Maybe they'll hand the award to us by a midget with a bowl of coke.' lol.

  • @criznueve That does sound like a good Freddie quote. I can almost see him.

  • Deacon John looking rather distinguished with his grey hair. This man is the reason I picked up a Bass more than 13 yrs ago.

  • Deak, please come back to the rest of us; we miss you and Queen needs you.

  • Ha fatto proprio bene ad andarsene!!...senza freddie che queen sono!!?

  • john is a god.

thank you for your wonderful songs :)

  • J.C. Leave John alone. He put in his time.

  • one question : what music composed deacon after "only the god die young"? nothing?

  • Nothing.

  • @TheRevolutionnow Actually he composed some music for a play. I believe it was in 2005. Back then I was in England for a convention when someone told me about it. I think he has been one of the most outstanding bassplayers in Rock history. And he seems like a nice guy.

  • u r the best of all man

  • Queen is great band..... But it was in Freddies time. John is wise man. God bless him

  • That's true. Queen was composed by 4 people, but the soul of the band was undoubtly, Freddie Mercury. I believe that John Deacon truly understood this and said "no" to Queen+Paul Rodgers.

  • If John ever wrote a book about his life, it would definitely be a best seller.

  • and to the left you can see Steve Lukather... with more kilos :D

  • Kocham Cie John za to, ze jako jedyny pozostales wierny temu czego Queen sie dorobilo i nie sprzedales tego britney, iglesiasowi i innym temu podobnym scierwom.

    Jestes wielki kochanie!!!

  • john deacon what a legend quite mysterious though

  • LET'S pray for a reunion for 2010!!!!

  • sorry but for me queen is ending... yes "cosmos rock" is cool album but is nothing comparate at innuendo, queen2; a day at the race, news of the world, a king of magic.......

  • but at least their still doing what they enjoy. I agree. I never listen to cosmos rock, even though I think it's not a bad album, I just get so consumed in earlier queen material that I simply forget about that album :P... The cover of RUNAWAY I listen to often though. That's an amazing cover of a timeless classic :)

  • he really is deacon

  • @ermestosobalatronca I do believe that brian has put on some weight then! LOL!

  • ok people, has anybody got to know about the true of where jhon is now? ..let's pray for a return of QUEEN in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's John Deacon, I tell ya...

  • he is cooool

  • a show with John, Brian and Roger would be sold out immediately

  • legend!

  • jhon se parese cuando a freddie kruger lo muestran como mortal osea cuando no ta muerto en la 6ta creo q lo actua alice cooper

  • Friends will be friends... John dont forget this promisse... i wuold like to see you again with Bryan May and Roger Taylor. God bless you my friend! Queen Forever! The show must go on Fredy!

  • dude, it's Freddie and Brian

  • the guy with both thumbs up says it all.

  • Well who sais that Queen died at the very same day when Freddie died ,says right.after 18 years I still miss him,he was not the leeder but the soul of the band.,personally I always understud Jhon.God bless you, wishing you all the best ever!

  • Good to see you John hope is all is well with you and your family.

  • Hey John, we miss you greatly. Glad you're enjoying life now without all the stress. Nevertheless we do miss you and understand but we'd truly love to read your memoirs. Think all to be gained on yourside as well as ours.

  • john=a legend

  • this song is truly beautiful

I love talking about my life

    greetings from mexico
