I really couldn't say. You might as well ask me what's my favorite album, or book, or food. All the places I've mentioned I fell in love with. The lo-res Youtube footage doesn't do City of Rocks justice. It's well worth checking out. I will say that, at least when I was there, it wasn't crowded at all. Like some of the other well known climbing areas. Most of the time we had a whole rock to ourselves :)
To elaborate, It's been awhile, but what I remember the most is it's location and landscape. CoR gives you the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere...because you pretty much are except for a small town nearby. And the landscape - rolling hills with small building sized rocks scattered about.
I understand the reason it rivals Yosemite is because you can climb many routes per day with time to spare. In Yosemite it can take days to do one route.
You can actually find one pitch climbs in Yosemite that are side by side, no problem. It's not all big wall stuff. You could even do some of the first pitches or so on climbs at the base of El Cap.
...almost forgot the towers in Utah, the Black Hills(SD), can't forget Eldorado Canyon, and Tuolumne. Those are just a fraction of the places I've climbed. My point is, is to compare any of these places in terms of climbing and/or beauty is just silly.
So gonzo, what would you say is your favorite place to climb? I would definitely love to check it out. Just from seeing the footage, I am marveled at the pure beauty of City of Rocks.
Stay away, the locals will beat you!

It's been said it rivals Yosemite...who the hell said that!? To even compare the two places in any way, to begin with, is ridiculous.
City of Rocks is one of my favorite places...as well as Yosemite, The Needles, Devils Tower, The Tetons, RMNP, Estes Park, Smith Rock, Maple Canyon...
