I know most soldiers are actually really nice people (a few friends and family have gone to war, family friend in Afghanistan and family in Iran/Iraq war) but the entire military machine is evil. The entire fact that people profit and live off of the killing of others is criminal.

Soldiers are but the cogs that keep that particulair machine turning. And like all machines, they are as good or bad as the one operating them lets it to be. This movie was chilling and eerie for me im a big fan of apocalypse now and i found this some what similar. An excellent watch capturing the psychological aspects of war deep and moving.
The movie based ita location during desert storm and The Marines were involved in only limited operations. The Air Force kicked most of the butt over there and the Army came in and swept up the prisoners. The DATs (Dumb Ass Tanker)in the Abrams to the lead on any other ground battle. The Queens of Battle (Arty) put steal on steel the infintry took the prisoners. I don't remember ever seeing any Jarheads. But they talked up a hell of a story. From the 1SG

Jarhead (Noun), slang for Marine. I love that quote as it has some truth behind it, though it does not present the other oft disputed origins of the name. Only the one that pertains the most to Swafford. Overall, it was a good movie but I prefer something like the series Generation Kill as it gives you less of a one-sided look into the Corps and how deployments work.
My favorite quote though would have to be "I. Love. This. Job. I thank God for every day he gives me in the Corps... oorah!"

The movie is about Swafford and his time in Iraq and the stresses of life it imposed on him he never saw any firefights and so from that, there would not be any. if in doubt wikipedia states this "Jarhead is a 2005 film based on U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford's 1993 Gulf War memoir of the same name, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford." i find the film to be very good even if it don't have any war scenes in it

I watched this movie in the theater . The only reason I didn't walk out in disgust is because a friend invited me.
My friend is a Marine recruiter . He had plans to pass out his cards to prospective audience members .
After the show , I reluctently told him how much I hated it . To my surprise he agreed , and we quickly made our split.
Hollywood got it right with Full Metal Jacket . Jarhead is garbage

i love war movies that don't just focus on the fighting aspect..but more of the drama and fear of being at war. the life of a struggling person that joins the corps to straighten his life out really makes the movie special. i love this movie

Jarhead (Noun), slang for Marine. I love that quote as it has some truth behind it, though it does not present the other oft disputed origins of the name. Only the one that pertains the most to Swafford. Overall, it was a good movie but I prefer something like the series Generation Kill as it gives you less of a one-sided look into the Corps and how deployments work.
My favorite quote though would have to be "I. Love. This. Job. I thank God for every day he gives me in the Corps... oorah!"

just cause a War film does not have a firefight does not mean it is not a war film. i think you'll find that during times of conflict it is not out of the ordinary to have a unit that does not see combat, they are still at war and they are still in a war zone so this is a warfilm, if you don't like it my advice is save those precious minutes of your life commenting on a video and getting in an arguement with someone and do something more productive.

That was what the movie was supposed to be about, it was the drama of war, not the fighting aspect. Besides, it was based off of the real Swoffers life, so if he didn't fight, then it wouldn't be in the movie.

The movie is about Swafford and his time in Iraq and the stresses of life it imposed on him he never saw any firefights and so from that, there would not be any. if in doubt wikipedia states this "Jarhead is a 2005 film based on U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford's 1993 Gulf War memoir of the same name, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Swofford." i find the film to be very good even if it don't have any war scenes in it
