The Glock 23 is a supurb self defense weapon. It's compact enough to wear in an IWB holster. It has ample fire power in a good caliber, 13+1 of .40 S&W.. A great track record and a proven desighn. Also it is a good compromise between bullet weight, diamater and velocity. 165 grain or 180 grain both have decent weight and velocity. Plus the .40S$W cartridge is 10mm in diamater. So Glock 23, best concealed carry weapon...

It isn't the scare factor, it is how quickly the cartridge chosen works, bigger does more damage and the bad guy dies faster given the same shot placement, that is just a fact. Remember, the 9mm was designed as a machine gun round first, they expected you to use a half a dozen rounds to drop your enemy.

First of all, I said "Given the same shot placement", sure, most any bullet to the head drops someone, but in a self defense scenario, shot placement tends to be less than perfect, secondly, you must have never read a ballistics table, the 44 mag is MUCH more powerful, the bullet is heavier (125-145gr for .357, vs 210-300gr for .44mag) and is typically 200 feet per second or more higher velocity. The highest .357 ft lb is around 700, the .44 is 1500-1800ft-lb.

The same frame and model can be used to fire different calibers, but not the same gun, except the 454 cal will also fire a .45 long colt. .44 mag will accept a .44 special, but not a .45, the .45 acp is an auto pistol round (rebated rim) that requires special half moon clips to load in a revolver.
