There has been at least a dozen people ask what lens was used for this outstanding video but there has been no reply. A camera is only as good as the lens that is on it.

@pokanesa1 When used for video, actually no. You can get a lot of mileage out of lesser lenses even in 1080p. And certain lesser lenses (for static shots) work better for video, i.e. a zoom lens with IS will trump a 1.4 prime.

@EasyFame Yah I'm headed here, moving up from the SX20 IS. Now the SX20 does record in stereo which is great for nonprofessional vids so you don't have to hook up a mic whereas the 60D records in mono :(

@EasyFame Right on, right on you'll get it sorted. I will always keep my SX20 because of the 560 zoom it is simply breathtaking.

getondigital has a package for the 60D with the 28-300, I can deal with 300 just fine and I'm not a fine art photographer so 28 is just fine with me I don't need the wide angle stuff so much.

what i'd like to know is does video mode affect shutter actuations? if the average dslr sensor can last 50,000 actuations, then how long before it fails with movie mode? after all, a dslr is designed for still images, not movies.

@anakeleozergmail Varies based on the card. I bought it and a 32GB sd card. The longest clip is 12 minutes.

@bakerpb depends what class card you have got as well, a sandisk extreme class10 16gb would probably give you a good 20mins, im cheap so going with transcend which works just as well with a lower upload rate but its good enough for the price.

I have the 60d its a great camera. Definitely an upgrade from the rebel series bodies. I have not shot any video with it yet but i plan on it soon. A lot of people complain about how expensive lenses are. Well lenses are extremely important in photography. If you are not looking to go pro then dont bitch an moan about about how expensive they are.  Lenses are what create the pictures. Anyone can take a picture with the kit lens but inly the skilled with the lenses can take that picture and turn

The Canon 60D is very cool DSLR but there are a lot of stuff in 7D not in 60D lwith 7D you have 8 fps 19 cross type auto focus 100% frame coverage 1.0x magnification with 60D you have benefit of Multi aspect ratios

It's not about the camera, it's more about the photographer/videographer.

It's all preference. Some prefer Nikon over Canon, some prefer Pentax over the rest. It's taste.

@PhilippeFreestyle Depends on whats important to you. 7D is better tailored for photography, but as a film tool the 60D trumps the 7D. With manual audio control, flip screen for easier control of angles, and all the same native ISO stops avail to the 7D, the 60D is better for video.

You are deluded if you think this comes anywhere near to the 7D, the sensors are similar yes..but that is where it ends, Canons pricing is lunacy since the 7D is the MUCH better camera and the flip out LCD is a gimmick used to tempt first time pro-sumers into the market.

If you know your kit...you would never take the 60d over the slightly more expensive 7D.

This camera has a few features that the 7D should have such as manual Audio. I'm not saying that it's a better camera for a pro still photographer but it is a more appropriate camera for a large group of people

Canon needs to get the auto focus in video mode working and not just as a contrast based system. This video is shot with manual focus and a really good L class lens.

I love Canon but Sony has just released their new alfa series product with a transparent mirror and the autofocus in video mode seems to works much better and cost like the 550D with better performance from the body alone. Canon has still way better lenses but needs to work on that autofocus.

@makanimike YouTube 1080P is 3.5 Mbps for the video stream. Vimeo peaks at 720P 2.0 Mbps. Yes the YouTube footage is overcompressed at it looses a substantial amount of quality compared to the 40 Mbps files you get from the camera, but you can't say Vimeo is better.
