Damn it! When will musicians learn that we hate it when classic albums are remixed? Havn't they learned anything from the ZZ Top and Ozzy Osbourne fiascos? I do think the sound of Peter's voice is improved on the 2007 Foxtrot remix (these are not remasters),but otherwise they have ruined all the perfectly produced Genesis albums. At least I still have all my 1994 CDs with the original mixes, but the new commers might not know what they are missing if they buy these sacrilegious remixes.
And then there were just three? Who else but Phil Collins could replace Mr. Gabrial? Ripples, Trick of the Tail, Mama, . Damn, then he went Mowtown. Oh no not this again,, not the same old ...., Who sang Carpet Crawlers better? Do not even try to say Peter Gabrial.
This whole album is amazing ! its a bummer hackett was gone ,...but the three of them made an amazing accomplishment here - Simply a great solid record ! especially Burning Rope ,...
Great song! I see why people like 3:36. Probably the best power slide on record! All from a guitarist who many people say he can't play guitar. I say to them," Listen to Smallcreep's Day"
@beatman10 Yes, I agree! Mike is so very under rated it isn't funny! Guitarists seem to go ape shit over Malmsteen, Van Halen, Satriani, and hey, that's all fine, but you don't have to be some speed demon guitar guitar god doing nothing but arpeggios and augmentives to be good. Mike was ingeniously able to create and captivate thus producing what we've got-GENESIS! :-) Hat's off Mike!
this song reminds me of serious superduper drinking and serious fun, this i recommend,a little herb or maybe some dones, a bottle of your favorite adult beverage, a few friends and this album, listen to it in one sitting, you will thank yourself.
Now i say it like prok like progressiv: For me this time phil was better than peter and what we had lost if we didnd had later phil laahter as a singer for genesis. Maybe they had could splitt complett.
@worldcitizengrendel I'm still trying to figure that part out. It seems to be ignorant hormonal preteens and teenagers (some of them well into their 20s) who know nothing of the accomplishments of these "pop stars", prefering to let their hormones do the thinking for them. All they see is someone their parents like who made songs for Disney movies. Which is automatically "lame" for some reason I am unable to comprehend. Why I remember when Sir Elton John got all this idiotic flak in the mid-90s.
wish genesis would have stayed this way and not the bubblebum pop of the 80s they became. That stuff was still good but the 70s stuff was great!!!! (Duke was as well)
One THE Greatest songs Genesis ever wrote!! Brings back the year 1978 in all its Fun and Glory!! Excellent memories from that creative decade.......the 70's.
@NS9213 Yes, very fond memories of '78. (The time when everyone was caught up with top chart AM radio, to which I never at all heard one fucking GENESIS song until 'Follow You Follow Me' came out!) Of course, AM radio and Prog FM were two totally different worlds of music. I've seen people during the 70's play Elton John, Boston, Joe Cocker, David Bowie, Mike Oldfield...but no Gabriel GENESIS or Trick Of The Tail Phil! Pisses me off! (Anyone who has problems with Genesis [in my opinion] has...
@NS9213 a MAJOR problem-PERIOD! It also pisses me off that they took so long to induct Genesis in to the Rock N' Roll (should be in a catagorie all of their own!) Hall Of Shame...because when Steve got a chance to speak, the bitch cut him short and moved on to other bullshit! (ALL THE BEST STEVE ON YOUR SOLO PROJECT WITH CHRIS SQUIRE, YOUR BROTHER JOHN, SIMON PHILIPS, AND THE OTHERS! WAITING PATIENTLY FOR IT TO COME OUT! :-)
Fantastic album! Listened to it when it came out when I was 17 and with my first love. Listened to it now and then throughout my life.( Am 50 now) Beautiful lyrics and awesome melodies. Genesis still rock!
This song was originally titled "Go West, Young Man".
