Not exactly the same time, people back then would not have brought their slaves with them for fear of them becoming disobedient, but 100 years isn't that long of a time when you consider how long humanity has been around. In fact, "Columbus" was thinking of enslaving the Native Americans the moment he arrived, which would have destroyed any need for their other slaves. So, yeah, not same time, but close enough.
