Very instructive video, but despite this, it is not working on P42G30. Anyway it is useful, because I see that I did everything correctly without success. Samsung 1TB SATA – after formatting slightly went out of order and finally no disk announced. Completely destroyed (had to be reformatting in PC) HD is OK but not for Panasonic. Maxtor 200GB IDE - after record no videos in the list. Any good ideas?
This is all great in theory. I bought a WD 2TB HDD which I attached to my Viera 42 TV via USB, and went through the registration process successfully. However when recording any program either via instant record or through the timed menu, when going thereafter to watch it in the Viera Tools Video Icon, no programs were shown as recorded/available to watch. No idea why it won't work, but found how to reformat it for my pc so all is not lost.
Hi, I have the TX-P42S30B but I'm having trouble getting the record feature to work, I have a SeaGate Freeagent 500gb but I have no option to register the drive in setup. I can watch programs stored on the hdd which I have dl'd via the pc but when I record something on the tv it doesn't show up in the video section of the drive. When I select a program to record I have two options reminder or external recording, when I choose external recording the light on the front of the tv flickers orange

The menus are positively dreadful. Far too complex, with bad naming conventions, bad graphics and bad layouts.
They look as though they were designed by engineers, rather than UI experts.
Setting up a HDD for TV recording should be an automatic process:
1) Attach a USB device.
2) The TV asks you if you wish to use it for recording. Confirm.
3) Present some options.
4) Done.
