  • @Michiganette men equally worked like slaves back then because they were the sole bread winners of their family... and even today die on an average of 3 years earlier than women. Also lets not forget the men were the ones who were drafted into the military, sent to war to die or come back mentally and or physically crippled. So being a man in the 1950s was not all fun and games

  • Would i be able touse this video for a school project?

  • if i could go back in time i'd be in the 1950s. ill take my boyfriend and my family with me

  • @LeaveMyGun I might meet you there. Cause you just read my mind you happy sack of monkey nuts :D

  • Richard's home is probably a crackhouse by now.

  • at 6;07 that cop threw paper on the ground

  • Oh for a time machine.

  • How is it so light out if it is so early in the morning, i.e., "before schools open"...? Because gee whiz, then I wanna live in the '50's; it was sunny and light all the time! And everyone was so perky! Wheeeee! :D

  • Here it is going into the year 2012. This is the language that the government has given us: Political correctness, multiculturalism, diversity,Afirmative Action and tolerence. These are ALL terms of divisive notions! And what results do we have to show for these terms?..........Now we all have seperate identities,we are more racist than ever and it's direct prove that any social aspects the government gets involved in are very divisive and actually PROMOTES racism!

  • OMG i wish i grew up in the 30'40'50's the new era sucks and full of bullshit

  • @TheDonnBot 30's was the great depression when everyone was poor. 40's was WWII. So ya, you mean the 50's only, right?

  • @TheDonnBot

Yes! Imagine if you were given a choice: a) Continue in this new era, or b) live back in the 50's. I wou;ld choose to live in the 50's. It would be a more carefree atmosphere.

  • 6:06 did that cop just litter? hahahahaha

  • Blacks and Spics still do not deserve to have rights in this life. America got messed up after 1964 Civil rights. Let life be like the 1950s, how gives a damn about black and brown and race.

  • @italkrealsm Fuck u

  • @italkrealsm coming from a guy that spells "who" "how"

  • @italkrealsm You should watch the coronet film "Don't be a Sucker." Also, you're kind of dumb.

  • @italkrealsm

Hey dude. That isn't very nice. I'm half black. What did my forefathers ever do to you?

  • uh-oh, the cop littered at 6:05!

  • Also life is more hectic it's insane. Back then you could enjoy your childhood. Now you have to spend your life focused on school only because if you don't go to college you're a failure.

  • Back then you could survive with a HS diploma. Now to live comfortably like in the 50s you have to accept tens of thousands of dollars in debt for college. I wish I lived in this era minus the racism.

  • lol.... Mr. Anderson.

When will the Agents show up? Heh.

  • Question: Do you think Stanford University. would allow Dr. Hanna to make this film today?

  • This film is titled "Our Community" (1952). It was produced by Encyclopedia Britannica Films, Inc. in collaboration with Paul R. Hannah, Ph. D. of Stanford University. Associate Producer: Milan Herzog.

  • You can react to goodness in a myriad of ways. You can deny it ever existed. You can corrupt it. You can codify it as useless and quaint. Or, you can embrace the possibilities and invent a bold, new future. Our grandchildren will re-imagine the weakened, depraved, Balkanized, bankrupt nation they inherited and with videos like this one, played in darkened basements away from prying eyes, they will dare to dream of a better world and say no to the tyranny of idiocy and political correctness.

  • when they build a time machine i will go back to the 50s and start a new life

  • i was born in 1997, and i would of love to live in the 1950s, people had respect for each orther, they taught christianity in schools, i could go to the malt shop get a burger for a couple bucks, and walk or ride my bike around town wherever i wanted. kids alays came outside, no video games, tv, and the girls werent always wering the slutty clothes they do now.

  • It was allot better than now, that's for sure ^_^

  • What does it mean?

In their darkest hours the People of the United States always got a person or opportunity to recreate their skills and capacities to find their way back into a glorious future. As a german I believe and trust in America.

JFK once said: " Dont ask what your country can do for you. Ask yourself, what you can do for your country!"´He was right! The moment is NOW!

  • Actually I read a book about the rebuilding of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. The young American nation seemed to be defeated during wintertime 1777/78. Then a prussian officer, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, appeared in General Washingtons camp in Valley Forge. He reorganized the army, gave her discipline and selfconfidence in order to beat the well-trained Redcoats. In springtime 1778 the Continentals had their first victory over the British at Monmouth Courthouse.

    Tha

  • Oh my heavens, today we're taught by our public schools that all these people that have businesses and provide services and products are EVIL SINFUL CAPITALISTS that are ruining society with their GREED and PROFITS. Meanwhile, the biggest corporation of all - the US Federal Government - tells us how wonderful they are and how they need all of our money to waste on program after program that have already been proven as failures.

  • @Orchard6773 the only failure i see is you on life. A purpose of a government is to provide aid, service and protect the people. The purpose of a business is to make a profit. Thats it. Make money and not give a damn about the people. Thats way many corporations are evil. But if they are run right, such as back in the '50s, they can make a nation more powerful than any other. Respect for others is what is needed to bring this back.

  • Where is Millwood?

  • Plenty of jobs with just a high school education and you could support a family on one paycheck.

  • Oh the peaceful life of getting drunk on martini's, slapping your wife for not getting dinner on time, then go beat a black person or a gay with your bud's for a laugh. Oh fifties, were have you gone?

  • if it weren't so prejudiced back then, id love to live during such a peaceful time :)

  • thanks for posting! the best decade in american history!

  • So, tell us, Frank...exactly what did you see that bothered you. What "troubling things" caught your attention. Was it the people going to the library? The guy delivering the milk? The guy baking bread? What?

And what, exactly, did you "read between the lines"?

And what about that 3-second shot of the church made you so unhappy?

If it had shown a shot of a synagogue and I came on here and said I was "not real happy" about it, I'd be called a bigot.

    Hmmmm................................

  • @harding1932 imma call him a troll and dispense a piece of free advice. Dont feed the trolls.

  • Yeah I butchered the grammar in that paragraph. Damn iPad keypad (Irony)

  • Born in the 1990/ but am a 50s guy at heart. Technology has made people lazy and ruined the true fun of social life. For kids, today a days plan is school, home, computer, tv, bed. In the 50's it was school, actually talk and engage with the community, play, chores etc. sleep.

  • This was the " Golden Age " of the United States...long, long ago.

  • good old propaganda :)

  • The 50s look cool.

But you cant trust old sitcoms and stuff to show you how it was.

They sugarcoat it, that's like saying the 90s were like full house.

  • I love how this has no dislikes :D I wish this was the way my generation was. I was born in the 90's, the wrong year for me :(

  • :'""((

  • Propaganda.

  • And I think technology ruins things too. I love playing video and going on my laptop but it can make people lazy. It made me lazy. When I never had anything all I day was go for a walk outside or read books. Life back then was easier. My aunt worked at pet shop back in the 50's all she was a cashier and she owned her own house! You cant to that today. Things were simple back then now everything is too hard and confusing. Idk why everything has to be so expensive and they it is.

  • I wish I lived back in the 50's or before where you didnt have to rely on getting a college degree in order to make decent a living. Now almost everywhere wants some one with a college degree. But some people can't even go to college because they have no money. Even community colleges are too expensive. I think colleges ruin everything

  • @stephanieweasley92 you are right.....a college degree was not an absolute necessity back then. While my dad was going to get his 4 year degree, a masters and a PHD life had passed him by....and wasn't making all that much more money. Meanwhile my best friends dad was a machinist and he already owned his own house, nice car and money in the bank

  • lol

  • This reminds me of the Fallout games.

  • @joey4245 lol me too

  • Seemed like such a great time.... and a completely different time compared to today's society. :P

  • This is what america was like before the Greed factor ruined it.

  • @needlove1982 No Greed factor entered the 1920s (or much earlier than that). Today, we are reincarnating it. But much Worse!

  • The only thing I don't like about the old days is the racism against blacks. I'm a republican btw.

  • @MetaKnight964 thank you. I'm black and republican as well and hell I wished we'd go back to the 1950s. Minus the racism of course. People focus too much on that. From what I've heard from the folks that actually lived back then, life was pretty good and people did have morals.

  • @osimeon00 It seems that the best decades of the 20th century are the 20's, 50's, and 90's. And jsyk, I'm white

  • @MetaKnight964 So true!

  • @MetaKnight964 yes good- now say Jack Kennedy was a great president....

  • @MiamiIndianTribe Alright what's your problem?

  • @MetaKnight964 Nothin

  • @MiamiIndianTribe Whatever then.

  • @MiamiIndianTribe winning!

  • Miss this lifestyle immensely....

  • we should go back to this lifestyle...it always worked and it will work even better in the 21st century.

  • @theraver2020

We would need to shed all the militaryism and socialism. Can't have a free and prosperous middle class AND the cradle to grave policies, military of some kind in over 100 countries. Not convinced we would even have a choice in the matter or if the average American even has the depth to realize what's been lost here. But yes a return to those ideals would be terrific.

  • @theraver2020 Well let's make it happen!

  • @theraver2020 ya know what would be really cool???? you know how people start their own cults etc?....would be cool to buy an entire small town (that was going broke) and sell shares in it like a condo or co-operative. You buy in on the stipulation that everyones house is done up 1950s syle, drive the correct 1950s cars, dress in 50s cloths........have a small town with like 5 to 10 essential stores...hardware, drugstore, small market, etc

  • @theraver2020 Oh right lets go back. Lets go back to the good old days of Jim Crow. Lets go back to the days when a womans place was in the home, where if your neighbor didnt agree with you he was a communist. When homosexuals and lesbians were seen as freaks, not actual people and therefore had no rights, when conformity to the social norm was more encouraged than free thinking and when color/HD tv and internet didnt exist. Other than that we should totally go back!!!!!

  • @19EHF there are two sides to every coin.....lets look at 2012.....the USA is collapsing, paper dollars backed by nothing, terrorism, the mortgage crisis, 300 bank failures in the last 3 years, huge government bail-outs of questionable success, a national debt that cannot ever be paid off, sky rocketing; unemployment, illegal drug use, teen pregnancy, suicides from bullying, endless military involvements, being detained in prison indefinately w/ no right to a lawyer (gitmo in cuba)......

  • This isn't that small of a town, they have their own TV and radio stations... along with a pretty impressive sized downtown....

  • where is the high school football game? DAMN COMMIES

  • Oh man, i could never imagine myself living in these times. Such conformity, such sexual repression... and yet, times were far simpler then...

  • Reminds me of Fallout.

  • Now mom and pop's stores are all gone... now it's suburbia, depressing, walmart america!

  • omg it's like living in a communist world!hahahaahah

  • seems to me that the corruption of the 50's goes unnoticed

  • @acosta2493 yeah you're right but at least this period was A LOT less corrupted compared to today. If America gets back to the real good times (happy days) we need to be a little more honest than they were in the 50's. I haven't gaven up hope yet... Some day we'll get there again. I hope

  • @POPCANA i truly hope too some day we can be united regardless of our differences..... some day

  • God bless America may she regain her strenght, power and spirit from the evil clutches of the international marxist left.

  • It's nice that the ticket writing policeman throws the perforated end of the ticket on the ground so that the man who cleans the streets will have something to do.

  • I know many people will disagree with me but I think America would still be great if we didn't give blacks their rights and if women and men still had their roles as husbands and wives. I'm 20 by the way, but I see today how those two things have damaged society in an extreme way. Minorities (though mostly black people) have burdened every state with crime and poverty. And women today, with their sense of entitlement, promiscuous sluts who scream rape when caught casually fucking in the bathroom

  • @ManofManyPasswords On some level that's agreeable, the 1950's was a time complacency and compliance and had a lot of manners and values. I don't think giving blacks rights was the problem, but rather it's more deeply rooted in feminism. The rationale is that because family values exit while women go to work, bringing home more money (and hence this push towards materialism) and a dissolving of family values with no mother at home. Kids grow up alone, and only have TV's and games to learn from.

  • @EzeWong Of course, feminism is to blame for the falling apart of the American family. But blacks are to blame for a totally separate issue.

  • man i wish i live in the 50s

  • This is bullshit, they make it seem like there was no problems in the 50s, I beg to differ with this, people were simply more controlled back then, they actually believed politicians back then.

  • This video is a myth, there never was an American dream, but it's a darn sight better than the desegregated hellhole it is now. A recent TV programme showed that Lincoln considered sending blacks away from the US after the civil war but he chickened out. If he hadn't done so, the American dream, or at least something like it, might have been possible. As it is, China is about to move into the No.1 spot as the US sinks under the weight of its liberal fantasies.

  • and then in came walmart and brought us one step closer to communism.

  • Great video. I loved the part where its showing the shoe store and the grocery store and all those specific shops and now its just Wal-mart. Then the part that showed the building and said something like "people are manufacturing things for you to buy". Well now thats a building in Mexico or China (with lead of course). Oh how things change.

I did work for an answering service and in the front they had a switchboard like that, lol from when they first opened 30 years before I worked there.

  • Crazy how Americans were once proud of all the government improvements and programs. After all clearly thru watching many of these doc's. It was clear that republicans and democrats alike fought for many of these same programs that made America great. Some Americans are so intellectually challenged they can be goaded by fear and racism to give it all away so their rich masters can have more. Go figure. Crabs in a barrel. Blame each other cause the income gap has grown to nearly slave master size

  • when the american people were still awesome

  • omg no hell no i cant handle this im gonna suicide today :'''''''(

  • Then… came the Internet

  • nice bak then but..uhh seems to be missing sumthing...

  • @gonzojon What exactly seems to be missing?

  • @LeftistRacist African Americans...blacks....these ppl would call em negros...good times tho

  • Richard is going to grow up to live in Haight-Ashbury to protest the Vietnam war and to take LSD regularly.

  • i was born in the wrong generation....sometimes i dream that i live in the 50's and 60's in a little suburb town ....i'm in love with a girl of my neighborhood....me and friends go to highschool and listen to REAL MUSIC ...on the evening we go play baseball at the baseball park after we go downtown to dance with girls, we don't have cellphones,we don't have computers ,, all we have is our guitars to play some good rock'n'roll. ..we feel the warmth of a summer night ...i wish..this is real life

  • @JFguitar22 That's sweet. I couldn't have said it better myself. But guess what? All 35,000 of us share the same dream! It's too bad though, for as every year progresses, it just turns into even more moral decay.

  • @Thegirlnextdoor42 completely agree with you the situation getting worse every years....i'm now 25 and when i listen teenagers talking together i know its getting worse.....im a little proud of my highschool years when i see this...music was a little more good, cellphones were less popular and people minds a little less brainwashed with a little more soul but this is nothing compares too the 50's and 60's..the 50's and 60's mentality morality and soul will never return...

  • @JFguitar22 You should be proud. Speaking as an teenager myself, I see those scenerios everyday and it kills me. Unfortunately, I have to suck it up and go through a few more months of this hell of a highschool. I looked through a '59 yearbook from my h.s, and it's ineffable. It's a shame, how America will never be the same as it used to be. I guess we could all keep dreaming. I try to inform people of the 50's-60's era. It couldn't hurt to try to change some of their mindsets.

  • @JFguitar22 I have the same exact feelings. Then again, kids in the 50's were probably wishing they'd lived in the 1920's- before music sold out and became lame comedic nonsense like "guitarzan" and "purple people eater", before television corrupted their minds and before they were all scared to death about being blown up in the midst of the Cold War.

It helps to remember that things weren't all peaches in any decade, that's just allhow people want to remember it.

  • @HumanoidSparky well said my friend

  • @JFguitar22 Cheers!

  • @JFguitar22 feel the same way man

  • @JFguitar22 oh my god same! i was totaly born in the wrong generation! i wish lived back then!

  • @JessicaWickett5077 it's a shame that we have to live in a superficial generation....

  • @JFguitar22 im in complete agreement and i can relate to what you're saying. i dream the same things sometimes. kids had a lot more fun back then, not like now where everything is homework homework homework! i think tht is a major downturn of the computer for our generation is that its given schools a way to give us more homework. young people back then were able to have all that fun with their friends without it effecting their grades. time back then was just so much more simpler

  • @anolan102290 thanks for your comment agree with you man :)!

  • 1950s-60s in America is realy interesting to me.I love learning about the nuclear races, propoganda,Cuban Missile Crises and all that. Its realy interesting. Not saying that all of it was good such as segragation, but its realy interesting watching these films.

  • @Bloodyvains71 Yet another comment hammering on segregation in the 1950s. You do realize that the reason the 50s were so nice in most of America was because of segregation, right?

  • @LeftistRacist You're saying the US was nice because there were less black rights...

  • I choose the twenty-first century over the twentieth every time.

  • For those of you begging to go back to the 50's REMEMBER that propaganda was more effective and less questionable, racism was at large, as was homophobia and religious quackery, basically stop being so naive and GROW UP

  • @ChrisWales22 ya it should have stayed that way

  • @ChrisWales22 if you don't like it don't watch it :)

  • @ChrisWales22 Racism is the defense that nature provided us when being around someone of another tribe. Racism is in the DNA of every human race and each of us is racist, except that some go against this fact, thus going against nature because they are scared of being thought of and called the "R" word.

  • @LeftistRacist Oh wow, are you being serious or are you retarded?

  • Good old fashioned life. Now did any one see a black person?

  • @CanadiaMiliatry15 Who cares?!

  • @CanadiaMiliatry15 Nope. Are you somehow trying to imply that we can't live without blacks or are you saying life is good without blacks?

    resist.com <--- Tom Metzgers website

  • Awesome the good old days!! When life was simpler! Kids play outside! And the American dream was to have a family a home with white pocket fence and a car!!

  • Saying things like the things listed below are hateful and non-Christian. I'm assuming the conservative a-holes are making these comments are Christians, so shame on you.

  • Also for the record, people are people. Some are white, black, or brown, but they're all still the same. The difference is that more hispanics and blacks are born into poverty. That's not an excuse but it may explain why "proportionately," blacks & hispanics commit more crime. There's nothing that makes blacks and hispanics evil.

  • @Ramonaespinosa Bull. We are not all the same. Are all dogs the same? Are all cats the same? Of course not! Some are dumber, some are smarter, some are more violent, etc so what makes you think this doesn't apply to various human races?

  • Anyone who wonders why blacks and hispanics don't think the GOP is inclusive, see "gop conservatives" comments. Jerkoffs like him give the party a bad name.

  • John 4:20 "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen"

Matthew 5:22 "But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment...But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell."

  • Comment removed

  • The negroes and spic's ruined it

  • @gopconservative78

Well, as politically incorrect it is to say, it is mostly true. Not all blacks and hispanics are destroyers of this, but we all have to concede that the cities with the most crime and decay are the ones with significant numbers of minorities.

  • @DonFourtonfour They're not "minorities", they're non-Whites. If you have a hard on for calling someone a minority then call White people minorities, as we a global minority at only around 7% of the worlds population and White females of child bearing age are only 2% of the worlds population!

    resist.com

  • What happened to you America? You used to be cool.

  • minorities have truly messed the world..Everything after 1963...the world got messed up. White Men ruling is better. Screw woman, minorities and other class stuff. the 1950 were the best times. Now, it is illegals, spics, blacks, towelheads, crap like that. i loved racism and i loved it when white men ruled the world. Non-whites and non-males have messed the world up big time. Lets go back to the 1950s when things were peaceful and smoother...i love simple times and things.

  • @higherstandard2008 I agree with most of what you say but please don't call "them" minorities! Call them non-Whites! We are the true minority at only 8% of the worlds population and falling.

  • The point is people need to work. Nowadays youngsters don't want to do the more ''grimy'' work.

  • richard probaly got ambushed in vietnam 18 years later

  • Ughhhh :( Why cant we still have all the good qualities from this Time period? Like Family values and Good work? Smh progress is good, but theres just some things we should keep around.

  • Commies OUT of U.S. NOW!!!

  • Check out the cop at 6:07 throwing litter on the ground! Guess it's ok for him to break the law, just not you...nothing ever changes.

  • wat state is this in imagine what it looks like now

  • Just take away the inequalities and this would be almost perfect.

  • A policeman helping to cross the street to a lady!!! This can't be imagined today.

  • @FURY1958 Of course not. There is no way for the cop to arrest her or fine her to make money for the state.

  • It's amazing how this one decade has became the epitome of America and american life in general. There are so many people that weren't even born anywere near this decade, including myself, and yet we wish to go back to it. People were moral and decent, and it was a time of peace and prosperity in this country. Sadly things have changed a lot in the past 50-60 years and this time period will never be seen again. Too much corruption and depravity on morals has ruined this country.

  • @KENZC62091 I think it is an unspoken truth that most Americans want to go back (myself included), most are just ashamed to admit it, and don't know how to go back.

  • @KENZC62091 You quoted me exactly and Im 13!

  • @KENZC62091 not only this country but the whole world sadly.

  • @KENZC62091 you dont seriously believe that? during the 40's they put japanese (regular american citizens) people in internment camps because of the japanese involvment in WW2. They had invesitgations against communist sympathisers and threw them in jail. Racial segregation was commonplace (black in the backs of the bus, seperate water fountains, etc). This was the golden era of the Ku Klux Klan. I don't mean to spoil your naive view of 'the good old days' but thats just what it is.. Naive.

  • @CM1000 So what? And what benefits do we get from blacks being in our country? Rude behavior, talking on dey sail fawn everywhere, crime, and countless other burdens they put on us. And they know that they are a burden! You can see it on their face, they know they don't belong in a civilized society. So you can live with your blacks, while I can live with my Whites :)

  • @KENZC62091 i agree,,,there is no such thing as morals anymore what so ever.. nobody cares about anything either..selfish lazy hustlers is what we are now...

  • @KENZC62091 I agree with you so much i wish i could go back to that time and I'm not 16 yet, almost but, still i love the 50's the music, the style, the cars, the look, the words they used, how every one is nice, i mean I'm sure there was bad apples then too but i mean there's a pedofile/rapist that live less then a half a mile away from my house i just really think we can go back if we all try but every one is all in to rap music and Justin bieber it's sad.

  • @KENZC62091 We can all thank de-segregation and the civil wrongs for that.

  • @KENZC62091

    Peace?

The Korean War Veterans would disagree with you.

  • @KENZC62091 I completely agree with you, but my LA teacher did give me a sobering point. Although everything looked wonderful on the outside, the 1950s was a very oppressive time for America. It was a time period that was unraveling from the inside out as soon as teenagers began to question conformity.

  • @silverstream27 I am firmly of the belief that if the Vietnam War & the Kennedy assasination never happened the mindset of the 1950s would have just continued through the 1960s. The war & the death of president kennedy is what caused it to ....as you said.... "unravel from the inside". Those two events led Americans to not trust their government and a deep mistrust smoldered till it reached a flash point in the 60s.....it triggered a number of non war movements as well

  • @KENZC62091 well there is always Sweden

  • This is a time when a man could have a good wage to suport his famly and the wife could stay home with kids

  • I saw an errant piece of trash at 3:58, when the autos and taxis and busses are doing their thing. It flutters into the air off the street as the vehicles pass. I am surprised they kept that shot in; we all know there was no garbage in the streets in 1952. : )
