I like the eSonic pickups but I don't like the unit. You can get a great blend and I am very satisfied with it, but to be honest, it could've been so much more with a better interface that didn't feel so damn cheap. Lol! My suggestion is using the eSonic but still buy a nice condenser microphone: a pair of MXL 604 and/or one MXL v87. Like I said, you can really get yourself a good sound using the eSonic 2.
You'll never find a better-sounding guitar in this price range (that's the all-solid-wood). The Masterbilts are great. I have this model and love it. I can't weigh in on the electronics issues, as I never plug mine in, although I will say that the Esonic tuner is very accurate.
DId you have good luck with the Esonic 2 system. I think they SUCK myself, comparing them To LR Baggs, or Fishman. Great guitar, I just wish Epiphone would put better electronics in the Masterbilts.
@brannon67 true-dat. Masterbuilt series are phenomenal. I won't buy another one because some idiot at Epiphone put eSonic2 trash in them. (I bought one once and sent it back because eSonic would suck the batteries dry in 6 hours.).

Yes, the Masterbilts are great, except for the Esonic2. Thats why I bought 2 AJ500's, R and M models, and put an LR Baggs in both.
