  • Another year has passed since I left my last comment.

  • classic thanks

  • good stuff, cool you sticked to the real original, Page is an asshole for ripping off Jake

  • what is even more damning, is that there is a live performance somewhere, out there, of the yardbirds, where they actually credited Jake Holmes, but say "arrangment yardbirds" so Jimmy Page knowingly, took this piece of music. There can be no doubt, it was credited live, but by the time Zeppelin came around, they figured they would just take all the Royalties!

  • I actually like the Holmes version better than LZs. Nice job!

  • Is that really only one guitar playing? And recorded in his living-room??

    Awesome!

  • awesome Jake Holmes:Dazed and confused cover,my last comment i left here was a year ago now.

  • Fantastic...

  • wow. you scare me.

  • Deep Purple: Child in Time < Bombay Calling by It's A Beautiful Day! Speed King (1st organ solo) < Fur Elise by L. v. Beethoven! Fireball < Warpig by Rock Star! Black Night < Summertime by Rick Nelson! Burn < Fascinating Rhythm by George Gershwin! Rat Bat Blue < Watch Your Step by Bobby Parker! Lazy < Steppin' Out by Cream! Mandrake Root < Foxy Lady by The Jimi Hendrix Experience! Smoke On The Water < Maria Quiet by Astrud Gilberto! They never gave credit to those artists...
  • @LinkBulletBill Give me a break! One or two of those are remotely close, the others not even that. Do you want me to detail every Zeppelin song that sounds similar to something else? How many times has Deep Purple settled lawsuits out of court? How many times has Zeppelin? Be prepared to add one to the Zep count once Jake Holmes gets his case heard.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

Deep Purple, hell! Ian Gillan admitted of stealing so much material from other bands! Ritchie Blackmore agreed with plenty... Man! Deep Purple ripped a lot of shit... And yes they are close, one or two? HAH! i bet you didn't even listened to them... Zeppelin were sued two times... Both were handled out of court and jimmy Page right now is getting sued for a Led Zeppelin song back then. But hell it started with The Yardbirds... Oh yeah! Jon Lord agreed with stealing too.

  • @LinkBulletBill Led Zeppelin has paid four out of court settlements over five different songs, and that doesn't include the most recent lawsuit by Jake Holmes. THe Yardbirds covered Jake Holmes live but did not take any credit for the song as Zeppelin did. Page stole a couple things from the Yardbirds too! Did Deep Purple ever have to settle a lawsuit? Did any members admit they stole more than Zeppelin? LOL

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

no they didn't admit that theys tole more than Zeppelin, but numerical counting the rips, hmm, it adds up... You know Deep Purple should be noticed for their actions, they should get a lawsuit, the only reason they went under the board was because they didn't lyrically stole.

  • Great cover!

1/7 of Led Zeppelin had unoriginality in them, 6/7 were original...

90% of the 1/7 were lyrical unoriginal...

Led Zeppelin entered a time when plagiarism became a big deal, hell The Beatles didn't even credit the so many artists they ripped from, and Deep Purple got away with their plagiarism and are not even known for it, shockingly, Ritchie Blackmore ripped more than Jimmy Page. 100% of The Beatles and Deep Purple's plagiarism were instrumental. Led Zeppelin were mostly lyrical.

  • @LinkBulletBill Only one seventh huh? Well that makes it OK! That would make a great slogan. Led Zeppelin, now 85 percent original! So Deep Purple and the Beatles stole their stuff? I don't see any web pages, radio shows, magazine articles or you tube videos detailing their plagiarism, maybe because it exists only in the minds of Zep zombies trying to believe that other groups must have been as devious as Zeppelin was.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

No, it isn't ok, I've never said that, people calling them a cover band can be proved with this 1/7... I know it seems shocking about The Beatles and Deep Purple, actually no one knows about this...

But still The Beatles borrowed material, change it a little and change the lyrics. John Lennon said that was how they made music in their early days. Like for example in A Day in The Life, the "ahh" part was taken from Hush, the "na" part by Joe South & Billy Joe Royal...

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete Deep Purple: Child in Time ripped from Bombay Calling by It's A Beautiful Day! Fireball ripped from Warpig by Rock Star! Black Night ripped from Summertime by Rick Nelson! Burn ripped from Fascinating Rhythm by George Gershwin! Rat Bat Blue ripped from Watch Your Step by Bobby Parker! Speed King (1st organ solo) ripped from Fur Elise by L. v. Beethoven! Lazy ripped from Steppin' Out by Cream! Smoke On The Water ripped from Maria Quiet by Astrud Gilberto! No credit...
  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

I do not find it okay. I accept it. I'm not arguing. I'm just pointing out that they weren't the only ones, and shouldn't get all bash up, while many others are getting away with it. People say Zep got away with it, NO! So many people know what they have done, I'm not saying they didn't ripped, or that it was a coincidence, I'm just saying no one gave credit back then... The Small Faces didn't even credit Willie Dixon for the starting lyrics that were in "Whole Lotta Love"...

  • @LinkBulletBill People know what they've done because the Internet and YouTube have helped to get the word out. Prior to about ten to fifteen years ago, you NEVER heard anything about it, even when they had to pay up. I was around in the eighties, when all that nonesense about backwards lyrics in Stairway to Heaven and other songs was being discussed. The plagiarism, which was valid, never got mentioned.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

Then Deep Purple shall be noticed for plagiarism! 6/7 was original, try to find something that sounds like Kashmir, No Quarter, The Rover, Achilles Last Stand or The Song Remains The Same and etc! And yes, Deep Purple did ripped, with a lot of proof, now what I'm not giving you a break! Now you're defending Deep Purple? They all are very similar, except for Fascinating Rhythm, but Ritchie already agreed with that one, so it must be true.

    Take a listen, it's not a pisstake...

  • Hey man, this is a great cover.. and hearing this song I think I like it better than the Led Zepp version. Do you mind if I ask what tuning it's in?

  • Nice direct cover! Thumbs!

  • @juliodiao9

Page is a talented and original guitarist.

  • @FedExHumper well sure page clearly didn't write the song and yes jake does deserve credit for the song. but why did jake wait till now to sue LZ? that just shows that hes just trying to make a quick buck. plus are you aware that jake had asked the yardbirds to play this song? and jimmy then took it from there changing the song by A LOT.

  • @ledzeppelinfreak13 Yeah, retirement money. Also, the music of the Yardbirds version is the same as the LZ version but keeps Jake Holmes' lyrics. I would call that the bridge.

  • @ledzeppelinfreak13 No one's aware that Jake asked the Yardbirds anything, because it simply didn't happen that way. If Page's defense is nothing more than Jake waited until now to sue, Jimmy going to be liable for damages. A LOT.

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

When will Andrew Lloyd Webber or Metallica get sued?

I mean Led Zeppelin were at the point of leaving a time when no one gave credit unless if it was a full cover into when plagiarism became stricter. "Black Mountain Side" was a cover, but still it had twists, bongos and added parts, but it was a cover without credit and should get sued for that. Also the only reason Led Zeppelin got caught of plagiarism was because of the lyrics... No one got sued for instrumentally ripping.

  • @LinkBulletBill Andrew Lloyd Webber has been sued, genius. There's nothing more pathetic than the 'other people have done it' excuse. Actually, there is, it's the two NEW rationales you've invented, that Zeppelin was an innocent victim of changing times, as if copyrights didn't exist before they came along., and that their plagiarism is somehow justified because they stole lyrics, not music.

    Zep zombies are insane.

  • @LinkBulletBill Yes, a homage. The cover we give to our theft!

  • @AFatGuyNamedPete

Hell, shockingly Deep Purple ripped more than Led Zeppelin instrumentally... Oh well... :S

  • @LinkBulletBill Yes, I think people need to realize that musicians (and people in general) were not as legalistic or litigious back in those days as they are now. They didn't have this heightened awareness of copyright law (or the law in general) that people have now. The biggest mistake that Zeppelin made was not changing the titles of songs that otherwise bear little resemblance to the original versions.

  • @ledzeppelinfreak13 yeh i knew he had yardbirds play it... but that doesnt explain the OTHER riffs Page ripped from old blues and rock guitarists.

  • @ledzeppelinfreak13 Right, that's something that I simply don't understand. If Zeppelin's version sounds so much like the original version by Jake Holmes, why did Holmes wait 40+ years to sue Zeppelin? Surely, he's known about Zeppelin's version (as well as the Yardbirds' version) since the '60s. I'm not saying that his claim has no merit, but did he just realize that Zeppelin has deep pockets?

  • @FedExHumper

    No, he reinvented this riff...

  • pfff,LZ la hace mejor

  • thats my boy.....

  • You sound JUST like him, sweet job man.

  • awesome, like your emotional singing and the guitar too!

I hear some angry Zeppelin fans...

And i might say im the biggest Zeppelin fan there is, and i can easily say Page took this song for a basis of his. he should give credit but eh... Dont really care music is music
