Before you guys keep bitching about Stach, would EVH and his guitar fit this current kind of music? Not really. People are saying this is exactly like Van Halen but it's a far cry from it. I won't get into the debate over who is better, because stage presence and actual technical ability seem to have different value to different people.
This album ROCKS and I'd buy it again if i needed too. They all did a great job on this album. Give them credit where credits due. Other than Michael, they all have their own bands and they made time to fit this group together and make some rocking songs and have sold out tours without sounding like any band out now. Can't wait for the next album!!!!

I have to disagree with the guy who said that Satriani "by far exceeds evh". Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitar player to ever live on this Earth. Eddie's talent is pure genetics, i.e., natural ability. Nobody taught him how to play, and I think he does not even know how to read music. His talen is RAW; he is a FREAK OF NATURE. Satriani, on the other hand, is a self-taught technician, very talented, no doubt. Probably not a "genus". They are both great players, and I am a fan of both

I 've played guitar for many many years and know a few excellent guitarists. There is nothing to support your claim " far exceeds" EVH. When one arrives at the genius level of satch and evh they are equals. technical skills, satch may be slightly up on evh, but eddies song writing and stage presence equal them.

People have been shown guitar play and solos that have just been getting better and better these past 50 years, and I cant help thinking that their standards have gotten way too high. Nowadays, if it doesn't have a crazy ass solo with tapping, shredding, and super fast arpeggios, the song ''sucks''. Its like the technical details have taken over the music itself in importance. In my opinion, what counts is the feeling it conveys, not how it conveys it.

What bothers me is that you would compare Chickenfoot (a pure hard rock band) with dream theater (prog rock). That's like comparing apples with oranges. They each excel in their own genre. Dream theater of course would have a more impressive jam session merely because of their style of play. It's fine to have an opinion, just make sure you know what your talking about before you form one.
I am responding to the hype of chicenkfoot being a "supergroup". I was expecting something fresh and exciting, . Comparing what Satch is capable of is apt with Dream Theater. He is more than capable. I was lead to believe this was something exciting and interesting I was not comparing musical styles just the ability to improvise and create interesting music which in my opinion they failed horribly I said if satch is enjoying himself great. i was really lookin forward to this band, but i just saw them perform on conan, and they're not bad, but i feel like they were holding back for some reason. I mean Satriani is an amazing guitarist, but in the song "oh yeah" his solo is kinda boring and i haven't heard any cool hooks yet that i would expect from him.

From what I've heard so far, Chickenfoot has met the expectations but it doesn't seem to surpass them. The songs seem to have a slower tempo than I expected but like I said, it's only from the songs I've heard. I wanna hear the whole album. Still, pretty awesome music.
what you need to listen to here is the solid fucking rythym section of Anthony and Smith - approaching Zeppelin levels !!-the second album will be the decider !!
If you listen to bass players like Geddy Lee and Stanley Clarke for example, of course Anthony sucks. He's good in bands where he doesn't really have to get noticed for his playing ability. In Van Halen all you notice is Eddie's playing and in Chickenfoot all you notice is Satch's playing. A good bass player is not going to go see this band to get any technique tips from Mikey.

You can't compare any rock band out nowadays with Led Zeppelin. When Zeppelin came out they were one of the first along with Sabbath, Deep Purple and other originals. Even though I grew up listening to Zeppelin and I think they were voted the greatest rock n roll band of all time, which they probably are. If I hear Stairway To Heaven one more time I'm going to shoot myself. I love Zeppelin as much as anyone else but just sick of hearing most of there music after hearing it for 30 years.
David Lee Roth was horrible in VH. I think they had him in the group because non of the other members were fun to look at. For lack of better vocabulary or any better choice of more eloquent word usage, hearing this "supergroup" for the first time gave me the same boner I got when I first listened to the wetness-inducing Audioslave.

Yeah because mass acceptance by the general public denotes greatness?? Look at all the crap that people love. Transformers 2 is the #1 movie in the world but it still sucked. Jonas Brothers must be the s@#t, and Hannah Montana, and the pet rock and bell bottoms and Steve Gutenberg and such and such etc etc etc! That fact proves only that a conformist population accepts it. That alone tells me it must be boring, Most people can not wrap their plastic minds around true talent.

Not at all no. Transformers is a film so where is the comparison. Jonas brothers and Hannah Cyrus are commercial puppets. All i'm doing is simply pointing out that despite peoples criticism, they are sleeping soundly in their beds with a #1 album in tow. Its not brilliant by any standards, but by todays market (Hannah Montanna, Jonas Brothers) its more than listenable. Oh and Satriani IS a true talent, beyond any doubt.

These aren't even songs... these are just pot-fueled rehearsal space riff jams with Hagar adding that one obvious fat-necked vocal he does on everything. Amen to whoever said Hagar has no dynamics. Great soundtrack for an Extreme Golfing video.

People have been shown guitar play and solos that have just been getting better and better these past 50 years, and I cant help thinking that their standards have gotten way too high. Nowadays, if it doesn't have a crazy ass solo with tapping, shredding, and super fast arpeggios, the song ''sucks''. Its like the technical details have taken over the music itself in importance. In my opinion, what counts is the feeling it conveys, not how it conveys it.

its a shame that everyone is bashing this song, cause people dont realize that this is a jam that became a song. they improvised the jam for 20 minutes and cut it down and it became this song. all you haters need to watch the 12 days of the foot chickenfoot video of down the drain cause they talk about how they wrote the song as they played in the recording studio

They should have left it a jam. You ever hear Dream Theater just jamming? Big difference. If this is the best part of a 20 minute jam how boring was the rest of it. Well Haggar the horrible is know for destroying iconic guitar players. hahahhahahah I just expected more from Satch and no it does not have to having 9 million notes a second for me to enjoy. But it could have been interesting.

Responding to your original response, you don't seem to be a fan of Chickenfoot. That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that you would compare Chickenfoot (a pure hard rock band) with dream theater (prog rock). That's like comparing apples with oranges. They each excel in their own genre. Dream theater of course would have a more impressive jam session merely because of their style of play. It's fine to have an opinion, just make sure you know what your talking about before you form one.

I am responding to the hype of chicenkfoot being a "supergroup". I was expecting something fresh and exciting, . Comparing what Satch is capable of is apt with Dream Theater. He is more than capable. I was lead to believe this was something exciting and interesting I was not comparing musical styles just the ability to improvise and create interesting music which in my opinion they failed horribly I said if satch is enjoying himself great. But the music does not support the hype.

Selling more albums does not make you any better. It just shows that VH cared more about mass pop culture acceptance and less about quality. Those albums with Hagar were more "cheese" than anything else. When love comes walking in. Its what Dream are made of. Were those albums the soundtracks for Disney movies. .

These guys just don't sound right together. Satch's style would only really sound right in a progressive rock band. Hagar's voice sounds dry and horrible, and his lyrics are all meaningless cliche copied from a thousand other generic sounding rock songs.

With Satch's vast vast chord and phrasing knowledge why are hearing Foreigner-ish riffs regurgitated. if Satch is enjoying himself great but I am quickly falling asleep.

i was really lookin forward to this band, but i just saw them perform on conan, and they're not bad, but i feel like they were holding back for some reason. I mean Satriani is an amazing guitarist, but in the song "oh yeah" his solo is kinda boring and i haven't heard any cool hooks yet that i would expect from him.
the lyrics are kind of bland also.
not a bad band though, but definitly don't rival Zep- at all, like Haggar promised.

From what I've heard so far, Chickenfoot has met the expectations but it doesn't seem to surpass them. The songs seem to have a slower tempo than I expected but like I said, it's only from the songs I've heard. I wanna hear the whole album. Still, pretty awesome music.

If you listen to bass players like Geddy Lee and Stanley Clarke for example, of course Anthony sucks. He's good in bands where he doesn't really have to get noticed for his playing ability. In Van Halen all you notice is Eddie's playing and in Chickenfoot all you notice is Satch's playing. A good bass player is not going to go see this band to get any technique tips from Mikey.

You can't compare any rock band out nowadays with Led Zeppelin. When Zeppelin came out they were one of the first along with Sabbath, Deep Purple and other originals. Even though I grew up listening to Zeppelin and I think they were voted the greatest rock n roll band of all time, which they probably are. If I hear Stairway To Heaven one more time I'm going to shoot myself. I love Zeppelin as much as anyone else but just sick of hearing most of there music after hearing it for 30 years.

David Lee Roth was horrible in VH. I think they had him in the group because non of the other members were fun to look at. In my opinion I can think of 3 maybe 4 great tracks with roth and countless tracks with Hagar. It is good to hear something different than the same shit thats out there now. In a era of music where any band can get a record contract this is actually pretty good.
