i've seen so many versions on how to play this but i think the best one is A, D to G, i've something where it says to mute the a on the g and put an extra finger on the b of an g chord which i think isnt right but each to their own

Thanks! I remember when this song first came out. I was already in a band at the time and wanted to play this as one of our covers but the other guys didn't want to. I always thought it was a cool song. I appreciate the tip about the hanging of the thumb over onto the low 'E' string when playing the 'D' cord. I'd wondered for years why just plan 'D' didn't seem to capture what I heard on the record. Now it does!

If you have trouble changing from D to G....try anchor the pinky finger on the 5th fret A string and Index finger on 2nd fret low E string and slide from 2 to 3...F# to G and it should give you the same notes but in a easier way...thats how I started and then 1 day it just clicks...IMHO
