Dude these bring back memories. My best friend growing up and I would play with Joes and Micro machines. Funny we both went into the military. Marines for me and the Army for him.lol!
Wow, listen to how they describe how Serpentor was created. Several historical figures were mentioned. Now a days kids have nothing like this, its some stupid cartoon about a construction worker and his talking tools or some talking animals that can shoot magic and speak gibberish.
wow, I feel really old now. LOL. watching this brought back some great memories. the 80's F'n ruled. It also reminded me that I never got any of the cool GI Joe stuff. I remember drooling over that damn Aircraft Carrier. Santa never came through. What a punk.
Serpentor was way cooler than Cobra Commander. But when they released Cobra Commander with the battle armor, he kicked everyones ass! That silver battle armor was cool looking.
oh man i remember when each one of this things came out lol I was so mad i could get me a hydrofoil because i got a killerwhale instead so my brother only bought me one thing lol...
my old brother is the he game me a cobra terror drome for Christmas ill never forget it it felt like the day i bought my first car lol!!
Geez, great memories. Best toy franchise ever. True, it declined after the whole," Cobra La / Echo Warrior garbage". By then I was hitting my teens so it kinda just made the transition easier. I remember some kid had Baroness, & she was one of the only figures I was missing. So I went home and painted my extra Storm Shadow black & put some different arms on him. Told the kid he was a special mail in figure, he fell for it! Needless to say I got the Baroness & ran home. Hade Destro hump her all
The aircraft carrier the my #1 dream toy as a kid. There's that scene in The Santa Clause 2 where he pulls out all the toys everyone wanted as a kid. He would have had to have had a big ol' box for me.
I had the hydrafoil, my prized possession at age 8. Always wanted a cobra rattler, never got one. My dad could give a shit about me as he banged the 21 year old secretary during the divorce.
I had a lot of that stuff. Never knew anyone who had the USS Flag. Kinda makes me salivate even now twenty-five or so years later. The Hovercraft and the Hydrofoil were probably my two favorite toys ever. So f-ing cool.
Not only my favorite toy franchise of all time, but probably the last of the "real" toys as the Nintendo came out towards the tail end of this show's/toy's popularity and changed the world. YO JOE!!!!!!!!
I never had this, but I do remember seeing it at K&B Toy Store for $199 (in 1986 dollars) but I did end up finding the Space Shuttle Defiant second hand for only $30!!! Also had a kid give me his Rolling Thunder, but a lot of the pieces were missing.
Hey, that ad for Zanzibar and the Dreadnok cycle features animation based on the one GI Joe comic illustrated by Todd McFarlane. That large missile is definitely McFarlane's artwork since it's so obscenely huge and impractical for a missile.
Who do you mean- the kid who runs in to all the other kids and starts yelling : "I got the USS FLAGG!!!" Yeah and let me guess why you got it kid, cuz your parents were getting divorced and dad felt bad for you so he bought that 6 foot piece of plastic to make himself feel better about banging the 21 year old secretary at work.
The toy designers actually had an interesting story about designing the USS Flagg on the DVD. When they showed off the prototype to the Hasbro executives, they decided to put some extra figures and vehicles on the flight deck to make the presentation look nice. But the execs wondered why they were being shown existing toys since they didn't realize the Flagg was the new toy and NOT some display table.
Yeah, Serpentor was the period where G.I. Joe started to get stupid, with WWF freaks (Sgt. Slaughter) and a hundred different "Vipers," "Eco Warriors," all that crap. I think 1985 was really the last good year for the toy line. 82-85 Joe was believable, cool, looked good. 86+ Joe was silly shit, neon colors...
well, in the real world terrorists and their organizations don't have all those code names, superior technology, halloween costumes and count dracula castles at all.
so the whole G.I. Joe concept is completely stupid.
@aerosoladdict Yep, 70's toys were cool too! Early 70's thru 80's = awesome. I won't even get into the birth of video games! (Atari, Whoo Hooo!) I remember my best friends/3 door down neighbors, had a crap load'a GI Joe & Star Wars toys. We'd set'em up/have battles. ("DUDE! I did so hit you! It's a straight shot man!") SW vs GIJ or mixed sides, etc. 1 friend had a small farm w/a little shack on the property & we'd play in there/leave our set up/battles unattended/resume periodically. FUN!
hasbor should remake the USS Flag like it was in the 1980s.. :( sence im 14 and never really got the experience like you guys it would be fun to a a remake of the USS Flag... my mom would rather for me to sit on the floor and play with G.I.Joes then be pon the computer >_> btw i got some of the original figurs :P from a collcters store... and some new ones and ones from valor vs venom

Doood, that aircraft carrier is what made the Sears christmas catalog a standard must have. I'm sure that made more than one suburban dad about have a coronary to look at. Wait, what you want Santa to put *THAT* under the christmas tree?! You're getting the generic corps knock-off figures and like it. j/k Then of course you got one good figure and it made your day. Ask for a tall order and you'll always get better than you expected.
gi joe the best toys i had from 84 to 87.i remember i used to love the silver mask cobra guy.who does not remember great times but bad times .when the middle rubber band that kept the soldier attach to the legs to the upper body would rip and later on you d have half legs and half upper body!!great toys from the 80s
Best toy commercials from the 80's! G.I. JOE Commercials hypnotized the hell out of me as a kid. I wanted every toy they made, and never got them. lol! I had a few though. We all had that spoiled rich friend that had everything and when you went to his house you could "live the dream" LOL!
G.I.Joe was wicked. I didn't have alot but I had a blast with them. And yeah, I really regret not having them now, they are super valuable collectibles. As for the downfall of the industry, I would have to agree that after Serpentor, yeah that spelled the end of G.I.Joe. But who knows, maybe the movie will kick new life into the franchise. I doubt it, but it's a little late now hehe.
PLEASE any dudes out there remember these small Animal Humanoid toys they had a heat sensitive patch on there chest, if you rubbed it with your finger it would display the element attribute for each...(eg. the turtle guy had a water symbol obviously)
Just my opinion, when Serpentor was introduced, it was the decline of G.I. Joe. It went from G.I. Joe vs Cobra to G.I. Joe vs mutants. I remember they introduced Eco Joes in the late 80's or early 90's.

Agreed best toy collection ever in the 80's and more like 8,000-12,000 dollars for the air craft carrier USS FLAGG, especially if its unopened, go look around ebay, it will make you sick that you didnt keep all your GI Joe toys/vehicles, made me sick anyway since I had damn near everyone of these toys :(

Most of those kids in the commercial are now in jail for assault and battery. Grew up believing fighting is good. A 'long' lesson from Bubba is changing their minds
It was always a bit odd that Hasbro actually made realistic looking weapons for the figures (that one outpost playset even had a recognizable .50 caliber Browning machine gun) yet they still fired "lasers" in the cartoon.
