you views on sheded hair is quite right. I am completely agree with you.

My hair is very thin and no bounce kindly suggest what should i do to repair them.

    upload some more video pls.

  • You have such a wealth of information... I have been watching ur old videos. I thought that I had seen them all... I guess not, since i fell asleep watching! Do you have any further info about your book... I have locs, but I would be very interested in purchasing a book written by you...

  • Love this idea! Definately will be doing it.....Thanks!

  • I love u for making this video! I'm so calm now when I detangle...I keep my baggies in a old shoe box, they all have the same amt of hair in them and I'm stress free! Thx sooo muchhh!

  • This technique has answered my prayers!! haha. Thanks Kimmaayy!! I always wanted to track my hair shed but couldn't think of a way to do it. And this is soo simple!! My big chop is tomorrow! I will start then! :) btw LOVE the way you present your videos, wish I would've come across you earlier in my journey! -A new faithful subscriber!

  • Hi Kim. Interesting idea! Can't you just weigh it each time and keep a record of that? (and measure the length if necessary) You could keep samples of a few different weights for a visual reference. Best wishes from France.

  • bonjour, MissJagUR from France! :-)

I tried weighing the hair on a digital scale, but it was so light that it would not register! I was so disappointed.

Also, I am saving the hair in order to have it magnified for images in my book.

I look forward to seeing a comparison of my older strands vs. the new and how my care practices have improved.

    :-)

  • Thanks for the video. So many comments...couldn't read through all of the so apologies up front if this was already asked.

What is that "comb" like object at the begining of the video that your shed hair is on? Where did you purchase it?

    Thanks

  • @FlyMochaBella

It's called a "Hair Stopper" and it can be purchased on Amazon. Also, I will be selling them next year from my online hair accessory store! (shhh, I haven't made the formal annoucement yet) lool. ;0)

  • Great idea!!!!

  • Great idea...I use a hair journal but I will try this method.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Lovely

  • This is a really good tip! thanks

  • After watching this video, I paid close attention to my hair after washing and noticed very little shedding, a lot less than when I was relaxed, so I'm excited.

  • I'm going to have to try this. I"m always so paranoid about losing a lot of hair. I'm going to have to do this!

  • just letting you know now, i will buy the book.

  • Thanks kimmay, again another new tip that i can take note of so when i do my big chop!!!

  • lol...I love the soundbite at the end of the video!

  • LOL!!! That was so funny...yet informative. I have not saved mine but I do take periodic pictures of my shedded hair to log the amount that shed. Great idea

  • Thanks. Such a great idea. I am fairly new to being natural and doing my hair myself. Lately it seems that I am loosing more hair than usually. I will try this so that I don't freak out unneccesarily. Thanks again.

  • AWESOME idea! I can't wait for the book!

You have helped so many of us learn more about taking care of our hair.

Thank you so much for all you do!

  • great tip...i would've never thought to do this and i always panick when my hair sheds...and yet it continues to grow!

  • Funny you should suggest this...I recently BC'd and I have been snipping my remaining few relaxed ends and yep...putting them in a snack bag! Right now I have very minimal shedding, but this will be a tip I remember as my TWA grows out! Thanks for the video!

  • Funny :)

  • Exellent tip! I will definitely be putting this tip to good use. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • I love the song. That is a really good idea.

  • I'm sure you have stated this before, but how long have you been natural? BTW, Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • so are u going to weigh the amount of hair shed? if not how will u know what week u shed the most hair? also, y didnt u write on the label what u did to ur hair that week? such as did u keep twists in all week, did u brush it everyday so that we can see what styles and processes damage our hair. do protective styles really "protect"? u should weigh the hair shed weekly so that we can have an estimate

  • kimmay, what products did you use on your twists? They look so nice and springy :-)

  • kimmay, i have never thought to do this....i like the concept of tracking how much hair sheds on wash day and detangling. i like it!

  • Just using your tips, I have seen a tremendous change in my hair and it's texture and softness. These tips bring out the real naturalness in your hair.

  • Hurry and write your book on napptural/curlie hair :) I am going to be in line for advanced purchase. All your hair care advice has been terrific and it is difficult to remember it all.

  • EXCELENTE! awesome tip!. I never would thought to do that.

  • Great vid!

  • Very informative video!

  • girl you are too much...love it- such a great idea.

  • the song made me laugh! Good job. Also, I appreciate the fact that you remind us to rate...usually I forget because I'm so intrigued with the information presented. Also, can't wait for that book you're writing! It's on my wish list already :)

  • interesting

  • Are you serious? You organize your shed hair? This is way too much. I guess I don't care to this level. It is a good tip for those who care so they can stop freaking out.

  • Oh my goodness! I've been doing this since I went natural. It's amazing to see how the piles get bigger and bigger as my hair gets longer and longer :)

  • Oh my goodness that's a good idea!! You are so creative!! Thanks

  • Hilarious! Oh so brilliant! Oh so true! Thanks for your idea, Kimmay! You rock!

  • What a great idea!!! I love your videos and I look forward to reading your book.

  • Another video? You have satisfied my addiction once again. :o)

Thank you! Have a wonderful holiday and keep up the good work.

  • You are the BEST!!!!!! So creative, we're getting down to the root of the issues over here...as my mom would say. LOVE YOU KIM! So smart :o)

  • Great idea. I think I'll start doing that. Another very creative video!!!

  • Wow...the last time I washed my hair, I collected and saved the shedded hair. How cool but I don't wash my hair weekly. So, my recordings will be for every 3-4 (the last time was 10/31) weeks.

  • From your very first video til now I find your videos very intriguing. I will start doing this...my husband may think I'm a nut lol

  • Yet another great and informative video. I like your song by the way, very cute & creative!

  • Yay Kimmay I will totally buy 100 copies of your book! Was that you and your husband at the end? Ya'll are so funny! LOL

  • that's a great idea! thanks so much..since i've BC in june my hair has been shedding like crazy..about the same amt as yours if not more..and i've been so worried..but i'm going to start tracking it to see if that could possibly be normal for me. thanks for sharing! :o)

  • wow thats so smart I never thought too do that

  • Thank you, Appplecidder! :0)

  • This video was tooo funny. I think you have composed a great hair loss archive system there Ma'ma. Keep making the hits on the music software. I look forward to your video. So, keep them coming!!

  • oh, LifeChanger711!

You like my music? You flatter me. *big ol' grin*

:-D LOL. I'm new to this music program and I hope to get better over time. Making your own music is fun, I'll admit. Youtube's music comes with too many strings attached.

  • Love all of your vids,,, they are very informative,,, keep'em coming,,, :-)

  • Thank you, shockmo1!

  • This video is right on time and so helpful Kimmaytube! I did my two oldest daughters' hair this weekend and I noticed so much shedding from both. I keep a hair journal for myself and girls, but never thought to monitor their shedding. Hmmmmmm... : - D

Thank you so much and I love, love, love your videos and Wisdom!!

  • Thanks "Kimmay"

  • You're welcome, nappilyevaafta!

    :0)

  • 0:40 Ooops ! lol

  • @ OMANI91

    :-D lol.

  • This is such a great idea!! But my hair is usually everywhere! Do you collect it from off the sink, out the shower, out the combs and brushes?

  • Hi Luvnme2009!

I've become very disciplined about saving my hair. I rarely use brushes, but I use my comb weekly after detangling my hair in the shower--so I collect all of the hair from it. I also set aside hair from finger detangling and hair caught in the drain trap. It really becomes a habit! lol. :0)

  • Love the video! I actually do this- I did the baggie routine when I had kinky twists in my hair back to back when I was transitioning so I could see if how much I would shed in a 2 month period. I do have a question- do you trim your ends reguarly? I don't freak out fom the sheding, but I am concerned about the breakage. I started transitioning May 08, transitioned for a year, cut all the remaining perm in June 09. Your vids are so helpful and inspiring! Keep up the good work! Be blessed!

  • Hi ButterflyBlessings!

    Thank you! :0)

To answer your question, no I do not trim my hair on a regular basis. Or rather, I use the "search and destroy method". I only trim off knots, weathered ends that are obviously tapered and rarely, split ends. Because they are rarely.

This has been KEY to my hair growth/retention.

I use to haphazardly cut/trim my hair. No wonder it never grew! With beeter care & moisture, my ends stay preserved & don't require trimming as often. :0)

  • I rated your video. So I hope I don't see that face in my dreams.... That was too funny. But it help me to remember to rate. Too funny. LOL

  • LOL @ piscesforlife2003!

Ya'll crack me up. Thank you for rating my vids. I really appreciate it! :0)

  • This video couldn't have come at a better time. I shed ALOT, all the time. And even when I'm not washing (just running my hands through my hair). I'm going to start doing this. On my way over to #5 quick tip, because I've been wondering about that, too...

  • Thank you, donneishaw!

You can try this out for a while, until you get used to seeing how much hair you use on the regular. It doesn't have to be a forever project like mine.

    ;0)

I'm so glad that this is a useful tip for you. I care about being helpful. I am such a "first born" child. lol.

  • I bet you and your hub have lots of funny moments, you are so quirky like I am...Love the video...should I do this as well? I am a twa...and it seems that lately I have been seeing a bit more sheddage. like when I wash my hair, I will see little curly q's that I did not see before.

  • Hi caliBornbEauty!

Yes, we clown around here a lot. We both have "serious" jobs, so you have to save some silliness and humor for life--to prevent work from sucking your soul. LOL.

Some of the shedding, even with a TWA is normal. Not all hairs are alike. Not all of them are meant to grow for 2-8 years. In fact, the human body can produce 3 different types of hair. Isn't that incredible? So yeah, monitor your hair loss, get used to it & there will be no false feelings of alarm. ;0)

  • O MY GOODNEEEEEEE LOOK AT ALL THAT HAIR!

    Very nice Miss Kimmay!

  • LOL @ caliBornbEauty.

You know that was me...my voice, altered with the music software. :0)

  • yeah...very nice! I used to be a recording artist...very fun and creative

  • Hi Kimmaytube,

Thanks (again and again) for doing this video. I am a newly natural. I've been feeling like I am obsessing over every strand. Literally, checking the shower and looking at what falls to the floor. Sheesh!

Anyhoo, I will start this. Thank you (did I say that again lol) Peace & Blessings!! :-)

  • aw, thank you, blaccofe!!

Like I've said to everyone else--you can use this method until you get "used" to seeing what your hair shedding pattern looks like. Honestly, there is no other way that I can think of to learn how much hair you shed normally.

  • Kimmay - I hope it will be useful for your subscribers to know that the 'hair drain catchers' can also be purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond.

  • Hi PetiteBellaDancer!

Thank you for sharing that tip. Much appreciated! :0)

  • Great advice! I never would have thought of that.

  • Thank you, KandiYam07! :0)

  • @ JanuaryXx no prob here :)

  • Great video!!!! Great idea!!!!

  • Hi AfricancoolChic!

    aw, Thank you. :0)

  • i don't keep hair so I guess I'm ruled out for being a weirdo, but I rated anyway! LOL!

  • LOL! Thank you for rating, kiwi73703!

    :0)

  • Hi osehietomi123!

*singing Redman* "I'll be dat, I'll be dat" LOL. ;0)

  • My grandmother use to do this...she knew exactly when anything changed.

  • Hi Notthecoolmom!

    Grandmothers are awesome. :0)

  • WOW! This is a GREAT idea! and I can't wait to start! and for the record, I, in NO WAY, shape or form, consider this "weird, or dorky, or crazy." You just don't do anything half-way, and that's EXACTLY how I am. My husband has often described me as "obsessed" since I started my natural hair journey, but since it's been 35 years, I have a lot of time to make up! Not to mention, I am the soon-to-be mother of three daughters.

  • I want to educate them, as well as myself, on healthy hair habits just as I would any aspect of a healthy lifestyle in general!! Kudos to you Kimmay!!

  • exhale1913, You ROCK!

    I love your energy! :0)

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

We are here *gesturing eye to eye* LOL.

  • When are you coming to the UK next?

  • omg I feel so special when I read your response...Kimmay you are the best at what you do I wanna be just like you with my business.....you r soo awesome, thanks for making my day!

  • You are special, ayanna8278!

I read *every* single comment and you make my day, please know this! :0)

  • That's why I love you... you took the time to address and reply to comments! Go on sis!!!

  • Hi blackbutterfly38!

LOL. Why is it so crazy? People save hair and baby teeth all the time. People "save" and wear other people's hair--which one is crazier, I mean, for real? lol!

I'm glad you see the point though. No one has to save as much as hair as I do. Because I'm writing a book & using microscopic images of my hair, I'll probably save my hair for another 3+ months.

  • too sure sista!! LOL!

  • OMG!!! Where did you get that drain thingy from?? I've been looking everywhere for one like that. Is there is a specific name for it ?

  • Hi KinkyKurlyQueen!

They are called "hair drain catchers" or "hair traps". People keep saying they are hard to find! I'm gonna start selling them, they shouldn't be so hard to find. lol.

  • I saw it in a food market called "Winn-Dixie" if you have one around you , you can get it there!

  • This is great Kimmay! I cannot wait until your book is published!! I will certainly be buying a few for myself, family, and friends. You always have such great and accurate info!

  • Hi NaturalPhD!

aw, Thank you. Woohoo a customer!! LOL. I try to do my research. I'm working on it. I promise that it will be a hair book as unique and as interactive as channel. ;0)

  • Thats really cool! Great idea!

  • I love the idea and i lol when at the end of the video when you and husband said look at all that hair. ; >

  • Hi mslucy09,

It is a great technique that people can use temporarily or as long as they like.

nah, that was not my husband at the end. lol.

That was MY voice--the wonders of music software. :0)

  • ummmm idk about this one

  • LilMsKissyMissy,

it is totally your prerogative. kimmay does kimmay. ;0)

  • lol its nice to see someone be their quirky self, haha :) Never tried that b4 but I did save my Big Chop hair in a baggy, LOL. And hey u r not the only one either!! This made me remember 1 of my mom's old boyfriends when I was little that saved his hair in a baggy and put it in with the photo album lol

  • Heya, Meedifyufosho88! :0)

Yeah, some people are weirded out by their OWN hair. LOL. But have no problem saving and wearing someone elses hair on their heads! That is cute she saved his little hair for a baby journal. :0)

  • It may not be for everyone, but at least she knows now :) I'm sure we all have things we do that others would raise an eyebrow to, but thats what makes us all unique. Which is a beautiful thing :)

  • Great vid and right on time!

  • Thank you, BrownFaceTV!

  • Ok, I might have to start doing this. I've been worried about the amount of shedding I've seen in my hair which happens to be very dry.

  • Hey PLGATL,

It will certainly get you used to the amount of hair you lose on the regular. Once you've figured it out and gotten used to seeing how much hair you lose, you don't have to save it anymore, or you can build up a hair archive like me! lol. ;0)

  • OMG I so didn't see that coming!! Damn @ t hat drawer of bagged hair. Kimmay takes this seriously!! :)

  • Yes, cjcaress69!

I'm very serious about learning and teaching others about hair. This hair isn't going to waste--it will eventually be scanned with an electron microscope and used as images in my book.

    kimmay is very serious. ;0)

  • This just makes sense:-)

  • Thanks, mona27lisa! :0)

Please let me how it works out for you if you try it someday.

  • Wow that drain looked like mines..lol Ur just so adorable and ur a cute dork!

  • Are you creating a new website? I see you have a registered domain.

  • Hi, ivygailmcc!

Yep. My channel is getting its own website very soon. :0)

  • SWEET! You will have a loyal follower in me. Thanks for the great video. Keep up the good work and press on.

    Ivy

  • Great idea for some of us that aren't "bored" but find this whole natural journey to be overwhelming at times. Tracking will help ease some minds and help others what they are doing wrong.

  • Hi there, regisnyder!

I couldn't agree with you more! If someonehas a better way of easing the mind of people about how much hair they shed on a regular basis, they need to make a video on it. LOL. ;0)

I honestly can't think of any other way. I can't stress enough how helpful my hair archive has been in helping me to figure out my hair shedding pattern, but how my hair care regimen has improved.

  • lol! this is so serious! I have been looking for a hair trap catcher thingy.. All my shedding hair is clogging up my drains.. It wasn't so bad relaxed but my natural hair is thicker... Where can I get one of those?

  • Check Walgreens or anywhere they sell stuff for drains(CVS, Wal-Mart, Home Depot).

  • Thanks for answering this question, aquamarinebaby321!

My subbies are so helpful. :0)

  • I purchased one today from Bed Bath & Beyond. It was $3.99. I also believe that some pet stores carry them.

  • Dayum girl this was great cuz I freak out sumetime w/ my hair balls....thanks again

  • Hi ayanna8278!

    You're welcome! :0)

If you use this tracking/archive system for a few weeks, that will get you used to seeing your hair in one pile. Then you will never have to question whether your hair is shedding excessively. :0)

  • Omg! you are a amazing i didnt think of that thats a great idea,

  • Hi MrsShelleybee!

Thank you! Please let me know how it works for you if you try it. Again, no one has to save as MUCH hair I've saved, of course, unless they are getting it scanned for their book, as I. ;0)

  • OMG, yes I was thinking "weird" but this is very valid. I can see how this would be helpful. I had never thought to do this before but I will be using your idea. Thank you - WEIRDOS UNITE!!! :-) LOL

  • @ CallaLily40,

    LOL. :0) Thank you.

Yes, it's weird but at the same time it's not. People save baby teeth, hair (some cultures/people wear human artifacts as jewelry)

Let's not even get into people wearing OTHER people's hair on their heads. That is kinda weird too, actually more weird imo. ;0)

  • LOL, good idea. . .but I''m good. The only time when I shed more than usual is when I put my hair in braids/twists (extensions) for a couple of months. It should be expected that when you take your braids/twists out that you're going to have alot of dead hair come out. Just like you said 50-100 strands a day times 60. I think folks forget that and freak out.

  • LOL., you are too hillarious. Dork yes and we love it!!!! Can't stop laughing. Great way to track you individual shedding pattern. I love this method. Thank you once again. You are a Class Act and a major dork. LOL. I'm lovin it.

  • Thank you, rhondad39!

I do kimmay very well. I'm gonna laugh all the way to the bank too. ;0) Wait a sec, my videos aren't earning anything yet. LOL. In time.

  • great idea!!

  • Thank you, cheffaking!

    :0)

  • Wow. You are thorough.

  • Yes,GooGoo32.

I sure am! My book is going to be like no other.

    ;0)

  • Now this was a great tip!

  • Hi sassygalady,

    Thank you! :0)

  • its a good idea if you are...crazzaayy lol. Very creative.

  • Hi beijosparavoce!

Creative I am. Crazy comes with the package. ;0)

  • Girl, you are going places with this hair thing!

  • Heya, GApeech08!

aw, thank you! I sure hope so. That is the plan!

    :0)

  • Btw - What are you guys doing up this time in the states!? lol

  • Hi Mar00nDawta!

lol. I'll admit, sometimes I will stay up late to finish up my vids to get a heas start on the Monday debut. You all are 6 hours ahead, right? I've been to the UK! London to be exact. ;0)

  • You guys are all crazzyyy! lol

    (But it's a great idea!) :D

  • It's nice to see I'm not the only one that does this :-) I've been told that I'm crazy for doing that but I didn't care.

  • Hi , ronni11691!

You and I are here *gesturing eye to eye*. :0)

If I allowed what people thought of me to stop me from doing my thing, well, I wouldn't be me.

Actually, I shudder at the thought of where I would be in life! :0)

  • I love it! My husband thinks I'm obsessed when I hold onto my shed hair from a previous wash. Nice to be on the same page as you Kimmay:)

  • Hi GigglesnGaggie!

I LOVE your Youtube name. :0)

We are obsessed with learning and researching ourselves. Besides, it is smart. If someone else has a *better* way to teach people how to truly know and understand their hair shedding pattern, they better make a video about it. LOL.

Meeting like minded people (even on cyberspace) is a gift. ;0)

  • Your videos are amazing, so well put together. Great info and tips. Thanks for always keeping us informed. Blessings. :)

  • aw, MzCJA!

Thank you for those kind words. I do what I do for viewers like you. People may not believe it, but I read every single comment! Your feedback really does have an influence on my vids. :0)

  • very creative idea but crazy as hell - love it though!!
