  • When she looks past the camera into my soul at 1:34, I get chills every time.

  • @wstorm1515 you son of a bitch you are so disrespectful an

  • Be3951 that is the most fucking ridiculous thing I have heard how dare you disrespect her like you are if there was a picture next to ignorance ion the dictionary it would be yours

  • AMAZINGNESS!!! i am a thirteen year old poet hoping and dreaming on everstar that one day i can b nearly as good as her.

  • One word; WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bringing the guifts. That MY ANCESTORS GAVE!

Whites have no soul olnly us Minorities.

  • @pipy05 I am black and I will tell you that it is you who have no soul! You are full of hate! You are sick! You are shallow! I am glad that when I see someone, I do not see colour or race, and perhaps that is why I still live with hope and joy. You my dear will continue to live with nothing but that shallow mind of emptiness. Thank God, God gives people like you a short time to live!

  • @be3951 Well fuck you for telling me i will live a short life. I talk shit but i dont go around telling people they will die soon. Whatever i doubt you dont see any colour, im sure your life is consumed with colour. Fuck you know nothing about me.

  • @pipy05 Needless I say another word. Your statements have wrapped you nicely in one package. A package belong to the bin.

  • @be3951 Blah blah

  • The only thing "bin" is your average white sounding comments...keep being polite and ill keep saying the truth.

  • WOw strong women!!!!!!! I consider too be a Man Power individual but after that she made me shake in my own boots... The power of the human spirit is the ultimate.

  • Love it

  • @wstorm1515 You idiotic bigoted racist. How dare you call her "another nigger 'wise old lady' "? And another thing, how dare you say "racism has been over for hundreds of years"? America was built off of racism therefore as long as America exists so will racism. And it's people like you that want to sweep racism under the rug when it needs to be brought to light. In closing, you disgust me!

  • @wstorm1515 Fuckin stupid cunt!!! your are scum to thinik stuck things......shame on YOU!

  • @pipy05 such things

  • A true American jewel known as Maya Angelou.

  • does my sexiness afend you lololol im gonna use that one!

  • If she could only speak without sounding like she has a mouthful of marbles, perhaps her audience would be larger. On second thought, no...she'd not get past the college intern book readers were she to have been white. She'd have dropped them off at the publisher's door and they'd have gone into the circular file with a 'not interested' letter sent within the first minute.

  • I just love her.

  • AMAZING! What a powerful poem! How can one not be inspired...TO RISE?!

  • She's perfect! I think i can hang with her on the poetry side

  • She's so amazing

  • @TheDev2g She is a nigger who is cashing in on the slave trade. Maya is a fraud and a Nigger elixir salesman.

  • @jonathanUtah1 Yet she still Rises. does the color of ones skin really matter? we are all brother and sisters of the Lord. Merry Christmas and Happy new years and may God bless you!

  • @jonathanUtah1 and you represent the most vile existence. Why would you take delight in trying to make ugly that which is beautiful? Your like a little cancer trying to take hold, but guess what ugly? We all reject you. Go spread your foul graffitti somewhere else. Go crawl back under the rock from which you slithered while we enjoy her beautiful talent and gift. Something you obviously don't possess. Why did you even come to this page filthy pig!!!

  • I soooooooooo luv reading the book called {AND STILL I RISE}

  • We love you!!!!!

  • She is a true poet icon.

  • I love me some Maya!! Never will forget this poem and how it inspires/inspired me.

  • This dynamic woman is perhaps the greatest poet of our time. (Clapping until my hands hurt)

  • So powerful !!!

  • wow. cocain is hell of a drug :o

  • BRAVO!!! Tell it again, Dr. Maya Angelou!!!!!

  • And here is a legend I can turn to for inspiration, bavo many times, your wonderful.

  • 27 people needs hugs because they were told by their parents that they would amount to nothing :(

  • And now, Maya Angelou... for "Froot Loops". Toucan Sam, you leap on the back of the wind, load stone to assorted fruit flavors, Phoenix of the dawns, one smile. We gave you, Toucan Sam, life! You, Toucan Sam, give us loops of fruit. Fruity loops, Fruit Loopies, swimming in the churning, frothy mother sea of milk, Kellogg's appreciates consumer comments, P. O. Box 221, Battle Creek, Michigan, a prism of fruity color, a cornocopia of over forty fruity tastes.
  • Fake and Gay

  • @pipy05 THAT LAST COMMENT WAS TO SOMEONE ELS.

  • does my sexiness offend you??? Aww

  • Maya Angelou writes the most wonderful, meaningful poems and she recites them in such a way that I am spellbound.

  • HAHA...SHE IS AT MY UNIVERSITY RIGHT NOW...AND THERE IS MORE THAN 600 PPL THAT CAME TO SEE HER...THEY DIDNT FIT AT THE AUDITORIUM...

  • Such a Beautiful Person !!!

  • you better tell it Maya...my new motivation and motto on life

  • Love maya and her poems

  • beautiful

  • She made some changes to the poem but oh well

  • She is, in my opinion, the most gifted poet in the world today, perhaps the best in our entire history.

  • @AnthonyBertolina I agree.

  • its so weird, my grandmother's voice sounds just like Maya's and every time I hear her voice I think of this poem... :)

  • Oh my dear Creator, thank you for the gifts you give to humanity personified as human beings, hail to you Creator, hail to Maya Angelou. She inspires me to RISE

  • I rise.

  • I wish to meet her one day her poetry touch my spirit

  • And I still get high....... don't judge me.... its all the same thing

  • Still here...Rising . If God be before us who can stand against?

  • I remember back in the early 80's watching Maya reading her poetry in a concert she gave here in the UK. It was the first time I had ever heard of her. I was a young man of 18. She moved me to tears. She has from that day to this. She has a voice that rises above and apart from the confines and petty greeds of humanity. A soul that truely shines and plays, with such dexterity, the strings of the human heart! Still listening Maya!! I always shall! ...(:-)

  • Her poem STILL I RISE is so inspiring. No matter how down i am still like dust I'll RISE! No matter how many failures I had from my experiences still I'll rise to face it again and pass it this time. :)

  • Would that it were that easy...she makes great sense and has overcome tremendous obstacles....sadly, not all of us have that internal fortitude to turn obstacles into strength.

  • Notice how she said "pretty or plain" not pretty or ugly.

  • brought to tears. so beautiful, so eloquent.. i am a young white woman. a struggling poet/artist, and have struggled in my own unique ways throughout life..THIS WOMAN is my inspiration, and humanity my muse. I believe in God, and somehow, when I picture this God, I can't find a better human image to cast upon the illusive face of the Almighty.God Bless you all, whoever and whatever you feel God or the universe to be to YOU.. God Bless you, Ms. Angelou. Thank you.

  • @kate000ums why does your color matter?

  • I rise

  • Im sorry world, does my sexiness offend you? Too bad. Imma rise!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BombaClaudie What?

......she stole that shit from my me too.

  • @BombaClaudie But still she rises.

  • 25 are still down. just like me. if you one of them and everytime you try to get up you get kicked back down or youve given up trying or hoping. you remember youre not alone, you got me and millions of others in this world right there with you. so next time you try, maybe we can all rise together, if not hand in hand, but definitely side by side. maya has reached out her helping hand, heres mine, who else wants to rise up and reach out? one truly inspirational woman.

  • This poem is extremely inspiring and strong ! It makes me want to feel that i can do and overcome anything. i am in awe of how strong of a woman she was.

  • Did you want to see me broken?

    Bowed head and lowered eyes?

    Shoulders falling down like teardrops.

    Weakened by my soulful cries...

~ To all who have suffered and been broken... We Will Rise!

    God Bless Maya Angelou :)

  • Such a Beautiful poem! to anyone who has been through a difficult time! This will mean a lot! thank you x

  • How can anyone, ANYONE dislike this? She is mother to us all. Her words are honey, freedom, truth, pain, history. Even as a white woman, I feel the roots of her words in my soul as if her ancestors were mine, and isn't that what poetry should do? Unite us.

  • These words in the "know of my soul" are coming from a place that only sit next to God and are distributed through the angels to the soul of the lady, the Mrs, the gift, the poet, the writer, the professor, the negro woman, the radiant, the sassy & elegant, the educated as she educates Mother Mama Nurture herself Maya Angelou..I just cant take it when she speaks. I dont know if I wanna pass out, have an ear-gasm, jump, shout, sing, roll, dance or leap with joy. I LOVE YOU MAMA ANGELOU..

  • does my sexiness offend you? does it come as a surprise? That I dance like I've got diamonds at the meeting of my thighs? :) This is my favorite line!

  • smh @ the 25 ppl who disliked this---> emancipate urselves from mental slavery.! smh*

  • maya: u jelly? ;)

  • Beautiful Inspiration...otherwise known as, Maya Angelou.

  • Wow. Ladies...take note

  • I love this poem !

  • ....."you can shoot me with your words, you can cut me with your lies, you can kill me with your hatefulness...but just like life, I'll RISE!"

  • Whoever don't like this can suck my left invisible nut !

  • 25 people haven't risen.

  • @ouchitsyou

guess they'll have to wait til Judgement Day to do so ;)

  • I love her voice, the voice of God.

    God is also female too.

  • I really want to know her and get to talk to her. Being from and living in Colombia, chances are 0.1% But, you know, hope never dies.

  • Maya makes my soul smile. :0)

  • Thank you for impacting my life and inspiring me to rise and be strong upon anything and everything. A great Gift to humanity and my favorite writer- Dr. Maya Angelou

  • I am not kind of upset. I am really pissed. It shows what the majority of society has come to.

  • and rise and rise and rise

  • I agree with you Laynieboo

  • next fav..

  • Tomizzo11 it's spelled Peyton ' Like dust/I'll rise'

  • Sorry...iPad misbehaving. Like I was saying...But never losing your self respect or self worth. Maybe you would appreciate her words by someone else! Search Rise by Paytan.... Excellent funky house version. Which ever way the words are powerful. I hope your opinion changes

  • But a

  • Tomizzo11 your words are disrespectful! Her words are born from suffering and oppression but all the wh

  • oooooo i love you like a mother :) <3

  • One of my favourite poems! Amazing to hear her recite it

  • 22 people stay on the ground like rocks how could you not like this

  • Beautiful! :D

  • Still, I dust and rise... Reading your books, Maya, made such a difference in my life,

    Love you!

  • I like the fact her Poems are filled with lessons of positivity, sometimes people dwell so much in hate, they forget that in everyone and everything there is hope, and balance is everything!

  • Did it on em!

  • Enjoy!

  • heart breaking

  • Thanks for writing possibly the worst book I've ever read Maya. "I know why the caged bird sings" is by far the worst book I have ever read. Not only is the plot dull and boring, there's not even a good lesson within it. And don't say that I missed the lesson, because I didn't, it was just so shitty.

  • @tomizzo11 that really happened to her you dickhead.!

  • @KameyaJ24 And i took a shit yesterday. Should I write a book about that?

  • @tomizzo11 Na, but if you grow up oppressed by a vast majority, get raped, and become an accomplished writer, then you can write about taking a shit.

  • @syth9 he CAN anyway.

  • @tomizzo11 If you want to, you have the right; just like she did. Though, I'm not sure you're literately capable of writing a book. Are you?

  • @KameyaJ24 And? He's allowed to critique her book. he's not a dickhkead for giving his honest opinion. People's opinions don't have to be the same as yours for your existence to be validated. Go find some self esteem and enjoy this because YOU enjoy it. not because you think everyone else should too.

  • @groovylocks This video was not the place for that, there's blogs and things for that. I simply didn't think it was necessary for him to say that on this video when he didn't even have his facts straight, this video didn't have anything to do with the book, just like my comment didn't have anything to do with you! If it makes you feel important to tell me that, then so be it. I have self esteem and don't give a fuck what you have to say, because you don't know me at all. Go get a life.

  • This is food to my soul.

  • 21 people thought dislike said dis-i-like

  • I learnt about her today and she's now my idol :)

  • I love Maya Angelou.. This poem is so beautiful. She brought out the emotions behind the words. Not simply reciting it but bringing it out of you as well.

  • Keep on rising sister....Keep on RISING!

  • She makes me want to be a better woman. She truly is an Earth angel.

  • beautiful.

  • I wish I could write like her, poetry is too damn tough.
