Prophet Muhammad left two things: His sunnah and the Quran. Those two is basically Islam. The prophet didn't say to follow his household otherwise you're not a complete believer. This is something made up, just like how the shia adhan has Ali (as) included which is not the original adhan. Islam is already complete, every addition to islam is bidah.
The Prophet (pbuh) warned the Ummah from Fitna of Shiane Iblees which has been recorded by Shiekh Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Our duty in this life is to pave our way to Jannah. Instead we focus our energy in divisional differences. You mentioned sects, true, but sects are man made and not from Islam (Quran 6:159).
As for Ali, great man, but Shias have elevated him to such a degree, with which He would have objected.

Then muawiyya passed the caliphate on to his son yazid which is not allowed in islam.A caliph cannot pass the caliphate on to his son.See what i mean now how the ummayads put rulership over islam.Even many of yr sunni hadiths say how yazid was not a pious caliph and he often drank alcohol and was a tyrant ruler.Imam hussain the prohets grandson refused to pleadge allegiance to this unjust ruler therefore he was forced to leave medina and take his family to kufa in iraq.
