Mariah's look at the end, "her eyes in general" represented in this song she wonderfully sang seemed to take her to a place of a time where she had a situation of what exactly this song was about. She sang it as if whoever "left her" in the past would somehow hear her sincerity in those amazing notes & "come back." I learned a lot about her "spirit" in the Music Box album. That's back when artist still had freedom to do & write what they wanted. She screams for LOVE & ACCEPTANCE in those songs.

I think her version is really good, much like Without You she performed it from a female vocalist's perspective and to me it feels like quite a heartfelt tribute, seeing as it ties in to what she was going through in her life around that time + considering Phil Collins has nearly 30 covers to his name, his fans shouldn't be talking about who deserves to cover what.

When an artist is asked about such a thing they almost have to say that they love the cover because they don't want to seem like an a-whole.

I'll say this - if Phil Collins had never sung "Against All Odds" and Mariah's version were the only version there was, I'd give her performance two thumbs up...but Phil Collins is a tough artist to outperform - he's one of the best singers of all time. So while Mariah does a fine job, I've gotta give "top props" to PC.
