I have had a few of these. The best thing you can do for these engines is a five angle valve job and install an aluminum flywheel and clutch. They are good engines for torque but the outdated design of the cylinder head really limits their horsepower at the top end. Wish I had more time on my hands, I would love to build another one. Wonderful cars.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry modern fuels, use 1:100 two stroke oil / mix as regualar driving fuel that keeps the old gaskets and metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions.
Most Porsche 911 vintage owners in Germany do so :)
API TC Oil is also fine replacement for all those expensive lead and internal engine cleaning addtives. Bosch says that.
I have a 1300 which is a lot smaller, and you reach 7500 without problem. Drive this kind of car before judging just on a color little band. And the oil gauge is not pegged (if it means fixed), it's normal that it goes down slowly
Una bomba!!!!!
