happy birthday big guy -- just like Black Muddy River you are looking down on the earth and other spheres from the universal spirit realm......jammin' with Pig, Marley and Lennon and let it rock....... rock......rock
went to see melvin seals & jgb in hartford a few weeks ago, got there a little late for the last song of first set which was...an epic dear prudence. then our car got towed and we missed the rest of the show but the dear prudence made it worth the while, and 110$ to get our car back. i hate tow drivers.
Where does Gov't Mule get off trying to cover this song. While the version I saw them do at The Fillmore last Fall was sick, JGB's still blows it away!
@richiemabie I've been a fan of Warren Haynes since the early 90s when he joined the Allmans, I've seen the Mule a half dozen times, but personally I wasn't that crazy about his gig with the Dead.
@originalfunkyfry i'd have 2 agree a little with ya.. and i love govt. mule. but i think it was W.H was goin in the same direction as dead but just a little bit of a nitch off from what the dead was. i heard b4 W.H. they dead wanted carlos santana.. and i think he would have been a better choice.... he was still in his own nitch and still wouldnt have matched... i think if anyone would have been able to come close to mimic jerry's tune could only be eric....
@Praying4tidalWaves Dude, I said Gov't Mule "was sick" (sick means good in case you didn't know) when I saw 'em at The Fillmore. JGB's version is just better. Jerry and Melvin kill it!
I love Jerry. He's truly an American treasure. Luckily, he's also one of the most recorded musicians ever. So, needless to say his music WILL live on forever!
Everytime I hear jer sing this tune reminds me of a small club in Petaluma around the early 80's and the "new" surround sounds revolving in that small place with a stage three inches above gronud and me near the front of jerry and melvin and his b3.

Hear em 2 nights ago at the ryman and they did this, it was actually great.
