Holy crap. It takes THAT amount of talent to make even what is supposed to be a "messed up" thing to sound as great as this one sounds. What an amazing performer.
I would appreciate if Mr Perlman would rearrange and remake Paganini's 24 capriccios on DVDs to learn all the secrets of such wonderful musics he made up ! maybe i'm dreaming cause he recorded capriccios in 1972, in Abbey Roads studio !
I am looking at the response to my note where I said Perlman was a mensch...and some ogre, who can't possibly play the fiddle, wrote back saying "[W]hat a k.k."..
You shoud be ashamed.and if you DO play fiddle, I hope you get carpal tunnel syndrome!
Dorothy DeLay, his teacher, is in the background. Perlman was giving a masterclass at Aspen where Miss DeLay had setup shop. The student he's coaching here is Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. The clip dates from the mid '70s, maybe even as late as '77. He also coached Cho Liang-Lin that afternoon.
i had the previlage to meet itzhak pearlman when i was 9 years he was sitting 2 feet away talking about his disease he inspired me.showing me to meet my goals no matter what life throws at you
@strickly4myninjas I wondered why he limps onto stage....but whatever the reason..he overcame it with music...I tell you music is good...It got me through sooooo much..I cannot begin to tell you..for me it's guitar..but now I am beginning violin..only just beginning and so slooww but using my ear as I practice the scales..thank goodness for ear training.--Joni
@strickly4myninjas my violin teacher knew him, and after a concert, took me backstage to meet him. and i was blown away by Mr. Perlman telling me, ' stop calling me Mister, just call me Itzy, all my friends do'. And the next concert, when we went backstage again, and i respectfully called him MrPerlman, he kind of shook my arm and said, 'I told you, my friends call me Itzy, and you are my friend, arent you?'
i still cant get over that! ^_^ That was back in my teens.
I don't know what level you're at but you'd probably need to be attending Juilliard or another school of similar prestige. I believe he lives in New York City.

Even if you didn't love Perlman as a violinist (which would already be very strange) you'd still have to love the guy as a person.
