@mnm1945 So he can see them on dark stages. If you look at his live performances then you'll see that he always wears sunglasses. Sunglasses+dark stage= can't see his pedalboard. So he puts the glow tape on them to make them stand out.
Wasn't Gill a student of Satriani's? .. Gill sounds delighted to be talking to him about his gear...they're both great players and seem cool together.
The JVMs distorion on the red setting of the 3rd channel OD 2 is Great it sounds better than a satchurator played on the clean channel in my opinion, and thats on the stock JVM. Those Ice 9 and Satcurator pedals are very good and sound great though. The JVM OD2 channel though is noisy so I can see why he put a noise gate put in. Never tried his JSX so can't comment, not sure if he just used the Satchurator on the clean channel of the Peavey or used the amps distortion??
I love how he spent years promoting the Saturator pedal by Vox and in this video he says he only uses the Saturator pedal for special moments and is just using the gain from the Marshall now. At least he is honest and never satisfied with his sound. I am glad he is always searching for something better, but it is funny that he has spent tons of time promoting the new pedal and now barely uses it.
I have a 5150 block letter...the crunch and lead sound great. But it has way too much gain! It is very hard to get a clean sound out of it. I looked at the JSX peavey, but I am not impressed. I think I might just spend the extra money for a marshall.
Both Joe Satriani and Danny Gill have had a huge influence on me musically the last couple of years. Joe for inspiring me with his wonderful music, obviously, and Danny for teaching me how to play like Joe via the LickLibrary DVDs. Keep it up guys. You rock!
@MattChalkGuitar I agree, I don't even need a distorsion pedal since i've had my Mark-3, nothing sounds like it.I tried a mark-5 combo last weekend it is sick!!! No Mods needed here...........Although I love Satch and his sound don't get me wrong iam a huge fan..
@2000boxter Yeah im a huge satch fan too! just dont see how these guys should be able to have what others cant! yeah ive got a Mark V head, best amp ive ever owned, just sounds and plays so good. :)
Not True, Matt, Mesa will mod amps without hassle.
I've been a Boogie owner for years, and for a very reasonable fee, found they will update, upgrade, improve their amps at your request, no matter WHO you are. Boogie really take care of their people. Example, the EQ curve in the Triaxis is preset, but you can ask Boogie to alter the curve to YOUR specs, they will do it.
More examples, but no more room to type. BOOGIE!!! (Viva Satch!)
@TerrorNoctus oh right, i didnt know this haha...... i read this on mesa's site "Our Artists also don’t use specially chosen or modified amplifiers or cabinets, they play the exact same models available to you. So when you see someone playing a Mesa product you know everything is "for real" still there ya go.... ive always prefered Mesa's or Engls to marshalls anyyy day!! though satch's tone is awesome, and satch is a killer player!
@MattChalkGuitar I think that statement is accurate, just because their amps are so useful right out of the box. I just nabbed a Mark V and I'm floored by it, I've been bouncing off the walls with trying to decide on a specific gain structure in live settings. It's SO amazing, you can't just fall in love with one sound, it's like having an affair with 9 different women whenever you want. :)
@TerrorNoctus i dunno man they clearly state "Our Artists also don’t use specially chosen or modified amplifiers or cabinets" still doesnt matter really anyway lol yeah man Mark V is sick, ive just done a demo of it on my channel :)
@PrettyRecords ahh thats why mesa ask you to ring the dealer for whichever country you are from.. :) ive never really been a marshall fan.... always found the sound too harsh and kinda cheap sounding (epesically on the non valve stuff) id love something liek a plexi but cant say im a fan of anything else theve made.... i love joes sound though awesome tone..... even it is all overdrive pedals and running through an amp that you cant buy! haha
@MattChalkGuitar Well I imagine that if you were developing an amp based on another platform (Triple Rectifier), then they would play around with swapping components and values and such.
@pmacFTO Ive thought about that too. Maybe since so many musicians mod their equipment, its better to help the famous ones than to not. Also a PR person could always say, its personalization, not improvement. Haha anyway thats me guessing.
I just sold my jsx120 and I pretty much took a bath on the thing!! After a few gigs I found out how much I didn't like the amp!!! It wasn't easy to sell.....check out ebay...there's always a bunch of them for sail and they don't seem to be moving!! I'm not so sure about the satchurator either, so far it does't seem so hot!!!! Looks to me like Joe's using the amps distortion on this jvm wich is modded by marshall!!! NOT STOCK
I love the part, too, when he talks about the DS-1. That is the exact way I use it as he explains it - in terms of amp volume levels, I use a little bit different settings as he did though.
@gunsproof He changed back to Marshalls during his stunt with Chickenfoot. In fact, he said in an interview that he was disappointed by the lack of reactiveness and commitment from Peavey in the development of his signature line.
I got a JSX 212 combo .Its the best Amp That I ever owned.Three Channels reverb ..Killer amp .I still think Joe got A bigger pay check With Marshall. If he didn't Like The Peavey line he wouldn't of played um for almost 10 years. Not To say Marshall arn't Good .
Very awesome, especially to hear Joe talk about his rig and he's still searching for that sound he desires. I've met him before and he doesn't disappoint as far as how genuine of a person he is, down to earth and easily approachable...Great interview...

How does this video help promote the JVM, when Joe's JVM is modded? Come out with the "SATCH MOD" JVM, then THIS video would make me GAS for one.

@zentera1 maybe officially, but I think if someone sent one back in and asked for a change, I'd wager Boogie would do it.
I was told by boogie they would do a + modification to my Stock Studio 22.
Look around at the Mark IIIs and the Red, blue, green stripe mods available.
That is a mod.
TerrorNoctus 1 year ago
@MattChalkGuitar Mesa Boogie don't even make a signature amp! In fact, they rarely even return e-mails!
At least Marshall listen to players needs and THEN will release Players models if the demands there.
As far as customer service goes, Marshall amps are the best! Which is probably why they remain the
most popular, it's not just the sound, it's the great service. Mesa are plain arrogant in my experience!
