It's just that the statement doesn't make much sense in its context. If you're not from Jersey, like I am not (so it doesn't ultimately matter, since I'm not a voter), it takes more thought to figure out what is meant. I saw the ad on TV and couldn't figure out what the heck was being said. That's all. :)
