@Plasvi That's a rather arrogant statement. Lady Gaga is just as talented as Lynsey, though she's had more commercial worldwide success. Check out some of her clips from 2006 before she signed to Interscope, and then come back and tell me she has no talent.
she did a lot of guest spots on Tommy Cooper & Les Dawson didn't she..? I seem to recall her being on TOTP a lot in the glam era too - anybody got some of those performances? happy memories of my first tape recorder trying to tape xmas day TOTP while everyone else made too much noise in the background!
A young man with taste, Lynsey de Paul was never off the television in the seventies being the resident singer on The Two Ronnies and always on variety shows. Her actual output wasn't massive, but what there is is generally good and well remembered. It also helped that she was extremely good looking and very well spoken.
I am nearly 18 and i looooooooooooooooove Lynsey de Paul. She made some classic pop songs back in the day such as Sugar me, No honestly and Won't somebody dance with me. I watched her on Come dine with me last year and she looks amazing. Love you Lynsey.
She was on the repeat this week and even though she is 59, would you say no? Also I liked her courage in becoming public enemy no 1 in the left-dominated music press by saying she voted Conservative.
Yes a lot of the music industry, particularly the likes of indie and post punk and ska acts hated the Tories in the 80s. Funny I notice none of them handed their tax cuts back. Like all reds, it's a case of hypocrisy. At least LDP was honest.
Even though i am fan of 70s/80s indie and ska bands i cannot help but find the majority of punk bands from this time were hypocritical and a joke. These so called working class anarchists wrre really middle class private school boys such as dare i say it The Clash. This is my own opinion but these bands had no right to critiscize Lynsey de Paul at least she wasn't two faced.
Yes The Clash and Crass were all ex public school pupils who thought it was trendy to be left wing and hate everything. Same as Paul Weller used to drone on about how awful Thatcher was and made millions.
Agree, Colum, and also punk was never as popular as the journos and old punks remember. Most teens in the late seventies preferred disco, pop and hard rock and still wore flares. After all, who would you sooner sleep with, Lynsey de Paul or a female member of the Bromley Contingent?
LDP was the last well known entrant Britain used in the Eurovision song contest as the BBC insisted thereafter on using relative unknowns. Co Co the following year couldn't even finish in the top 10, a disaster after ten great British years.
Lynsey is still very attractive now, but in the seventies she was very beautiful. Also a very well spoken girl and a talented songwriter. You chaps should all check out Won't Somebody Dance With Me, her finest song. However, a word of caution should you meet her: she is now a martial arts expert and it wouldn't be a good idea to try anything.

Always a good song that deserved to win the Eurovision. After this LDP never appeared in the Top 20 again sadly.

Cute version without the suits but the lacklustre audience are so typical of TOTP in the 70s.
