When you mention greatest singer/songwriters of any genre of music ..Carter Stanley is included with Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, etc..Carter was like the rest,a "TORMENTED SOUL"....
Ole Pete looks either very displeased or hungover...maybe just a crappy morning eh? I don't think I could stay upset standing right in front of the Stanley Brothers though! Awesome & thanks for sharing this gem! I remember rainbow quest too. Pete really got the shaft during the late 60's huh? Oh well I still like his material.
Carter Stanley Great lead singer. He and Ralph together was so great together. They had a sound together was untouched . No one ever come close . I know so many have tryed but can't get that sound. Yes The Stanley Brothers a class of Bluegrass of their on. You can tell when George Shuffer get off that Roll Style another Great one. I could go on and on . But time want permit. C.S100.
Carter Stanley, Lester Flatt, and Charlie Waller... the greatest lead singers of this genre of music are no longer with us, but we were soooo lucky to have their voices recorded so that they will live on forever.
Well, been studying, listening and watching the the Stanley Brothers for a while now. So important that they are not forgotten, but forever memorialized for ther faith in the "Old Time Music" and the joy it has brought to so many an unnumbered fan. Yes, no one beats Carter as lead. No doubt As Dr. Ralph might put it "The Man Upstairs", wanted Carter up there singing lead for Him like he and Bill Monroe reckoned.
Thanks for posting. Great' song my Daddy from those same hills of KY and WV used to sing while he was working! Makes me miss Dad all the more, but never thought I'd see this in youtube. Keep posting and THANK YOU! An ol' gal from Texas with hillbilly roots in KY & WV.
fotoflex thank you for posting this! We need to cherish this tradition and always honor here on this side those wonderful ones who are now in the angel band. :)
So wonderful to preserve this era of the Stanley's that we might not ever forget Carter... I met Ralph a few years past and the way he spoke of his brother brought tears to me eyes, and his... Marshall, NC
For awhile a TV performance of "Rank Stranger" with Carter singing was on the YouTube, but it vanished. Carter's voice was amazing--just a throwaway TV slot, they did so many, but he put his full heart and soul into it. I'd love to see that again.
Carter said its mountain soul not bluegrass Appy music is the bread and buttter served at my table and yes i from this area East Tn right across the line from Dickson Co, Va
I would love to find a song that Ralph Stanley sang its called "WHO WAS THAT BEAUTIFUL WOMAN" man I loved that song as a child...if anyone has info please let me know...
Carter Stanley is so awesome. I like his style and his singing. He also wrote a large number of classic bluegrass and bluegrass gospel songs. That classic Stanley Brothers sound is just incredible and a pleasure to listen to and a special treat to see them perform. Thanks to the poster for sharing this video.

Carter has been called the most natural singer that ever was; I'll have to agree with that. His phrasing, tone and "feeling" are superior!
