We do not clap a long because you are suppose to be in meditation with kirtan and I don't think clapping would mean you are meditating on the one lord. We don't clap when we are happy, instead we still remeber waheguru by saying "bolay so ni hale, sat sri akal".
In Gurbani Kirtan, we do not clap like the hindus do, next you will c singhs dancing devotionally like the hindus, the singh way of kirtan is do sit cross legged with his back straight hand folded, and singing along devotionally, not to clap, you can use chainai, or learn an instrument if you want to be part of the soundtrack, however there is nothing better than singing along. Singhs and singhina do not clap with Gurbani Kirtan, we not hindus.
