  • I'd have loved to see Anthony Quinn play the Santuri, and also the ending given in the novel is much more spectacular. anyway The director ends it on a pleasant note. beautiful work altogether.

  • R.I.P. Mikis Cacoyannis ~ films will live on.

  • A wonderful film and great soundtrack. I was living in Cyprus when this film came out in 1964 and I remember them going to see it - for months afterwards we listened to the soundtrack on our LP - and later I had a tape with some of the quotes and music which I have played for several decades. I love the relationship between these two men - I think we all have some of this relationship inside us in many different way, between the heart and the head. I have enjoyed several more Kazantzakis novels.

  • WONDERFUL - The BEST FILM ever!

I saw the film when I were 14; and I fell in love with the Greek feeling which it transports.

"Teach me too dance." :-)) Long live Mikis Theodorakis!

Evcharisto para poly gia avto to upload. Na 'sai kala...

    Kalo mina!

  • Never in my life have I seen a man more like my father than Zorba.

  • @crazycamel345 Lucky you.... :) Maybe he IS...? Did he read the book or see the film? Is he Greek? He must have a Greek soul.... Send him our greetings... !

  • @TheodorakisZorba Lol he's not Greek. Actually, he's Turkish haha.... I don't care whether someone is Greek or Turkish though.... Turks and Greeks are brothers and sisters separated by religion and language.

  • @crazycamel345 Greeks are not brothers to Turks. My brother would never murder me. Greeks did not commit mass-genocide, human trafficking and corruption.

Politics aside, this was an EPIC movie. God Bless Zorba and Ellada (Greece)!!

  • @EffLabels Yeah it is due to closed mindedness and ultranationalists such as yourself who attempt to strike division between people. Don't think that you can insult a country and get away with it by saying "politics aside." Greece is now equally if not more corrupt than Turkey and is suffering economically far more than Turkey is. "Mass genocide" was not committed and if you'd like to talk about killings look at the deportations of the Muslim community in Greece... Fucking hypocrite.

  • @crazycamel345 Iam glad Musilims were deported, they shouldnt be there in the first place. Economic, problems and slaughtering thousands of Greeks are two seperate things. You cannot deny the amount of genocide and mayham Turkey caused. I will never understand Turkey's obession with Greece, but then again, if you are neighboring a country rich in culture and history, and you have nothing, I suppose it would make sense for them to want to cling onto the coat-tails of something greater.

  • @EffLabels What an unintellectual answer. If you would like to have a chat about culture, I would make the suggestion that you actually visit the countries in question like I have. You might be able to see what culture is instead of reading it from a book! The point behind this movie is clearly wasted on such a fool as yourself, Nationalism and patriotism block progress and knowledge. This point is clearly illustrated by Zorba and unfortunately a Conservative Englishman wouldn't understand it.

  • @crazycamel345 "Unintellectual" It's not about intellect, it's a thing called "History" Fact. It's ignorant of you to deny that genocide of Greeks and Armenians occured. If it werent for patriosim or nationalism Greeks would still be under threat. Prior to Turkey, Greece was the mecca of the globe. Trust me, I know all too well about "Turkish culture", Ive see them destory the UK and EU. And if you are so upset about Musilims being deported then why do you reside in Canada, a Western country?

  • @EffLabels Unfortunately your idea of history is swayed by the biases within the media. Again, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has called upon the Armenians to open up historical records in order to solve this dispute, however, the Armenians continue to deny this possibility. Second, my family wasn't deported from Turkey so your argument there is irrelevant in accordance with the fact that I am not Muslim. Muslims in my opinion are scum. Christians in my opinion are scum. I am "upset" about

  • @crazycamel345 violations of human dignity. No person should be forcefully evicted, deported, etc. Unless a specific crime has been committed on an individual basis. You of all people, coming from a civilized country should understand and embrace this idea... It is men like you who devolve society into a waste basket of violence.

  • @crazycamel345 You sound like a Nazi sympathiser who denies the hollocaust. I cannot speak for the Armenian records, but there are dozens upon dozens of photographs of Greek women and children being killed by Turks. I can hapilly send these to you.

I should know, my own family suffered because of Turks. Besides photos, there are all too many accounts by witnesses.

  • @EffLabels If I am sounding like a Nazi sympathiser, I would be interested to see what you view yourself as. Previously you stated that you are "glad Muslims were deported," what civility presses upon you? What hypocricy? If one man is deported from his home, and another man is forcefully moved for a different reason, are both men not deported? I also press upon you the fact that you overgeneralize my opinions based on historical evidence. Not once have I denied that killings took place...(next)

  • @crazycamel345 My only refutation has been on the idea of calling the massacres of the Armenians "genocide." Until substatntial evidence is presented by the Republic of Armenia, I will continue to refute the use of the word "genocide." No person wishes to have the honour of their ancestors' country stained with such ill used words especially when evidence within the matter is lacking. In addition, I question your objective for the recognition of such an under supported term. I know why you (next

  • @crazycamel345 decide to support such terms. Your objective is not to seek justice for those families who have been affected by the onslaught of chaos which was prevalent during that time period, but rather to stain the honour of a nation which you happen to loathe. Your methods are despicable and I spit upon not the country you are from, but rather the construction of your character. Your attempt to paint me as a "Nazi" is in the utmost child like manner of debate.

  • @crazycamel345 To compare Musilims (people who stone women, lynch homosexuals and force their beliefs upon others with violence and terroism) with Jews, is laughable. (I am not a Jew btw)

You are splitting hairs. If the murder of thousands upon thousands of innocent GREEK women and children is NOT genocide, then please tell me what it *is*?

  • @EffLabels Here you speak of the difference between Muslims and those of other cultural/religious backgrounds. You have just proven that although you may not support National Socialistic reigns of terror, you support the attacks upon those who you yourself deem unworthy to live. You are no better than a Nazi. Therefore, my dialectics are wasted upon you. Enjoy your theories of cultural superiority. They won't last long amidst globalization :) Have a good day.

  • @crazycamel345 What? lol I support the attacks on individuals who force their beliefs upon others through violence. The same way Turks harrassed Greeks for speaking their own language. Yes. There is nothing wrong with defending oneself against minorities that are a threat. Greeks were never a threat to Turks. However Musilims are a global threat. There in lies the difference

  • @EffLabels Forcing their beliefs upon others? You mean like how the Western countries have been trying to force their political systems on the Middle East since the end of World War I? Greeks were never a threat to Turks??? You mean the Greek invasion of the undeclared Republic of Turkey from 1919-1922 was just a tea party? Yeah and you're saying I have revisionist history.

  • @crazycamel345 "Greek invasion"?

You do reliase that alot of "Turkey" was Greek land going back thousands of years.

I dont see Western countries tying bombs onto kids and having them blow up public places like cowards, or flying planes into buildings, or stoning rape victims.

  • @EffLabels Yes I do realise this... But I also realise that times change. Technically speaking Greece was Ottoman territory... However, I do not want to bring Greece under Turkish control merely because that is what history might dictate. In addition, whether you like it or not, Turkey is a secular country who belongs to NATO. Turks never had anything to do with 9/11... They do not have Islamic law.... Don't bother replying because I've shot down every single point you have made.

  • @crazycamel345 LOL I love the fact you say this on the day a TURKISH hijacker gets arrested for threating to blow a plane up. Ofcourse Turks have Islamic laws, most of them are Islamic.

  • @EffLabels ?? Have you ever actually read the penal code in Turkey? How about the constitution? It is embedded in the constitution that secularism prevails and that there is no official state religion... What evidence are you basing this ridiculous argument on?? Send it to me.
