I'm Scots, and I think the following is right: Fair fa's the licht that hails the daw an scales the mirk frae yin and a ye banish ilka care awa an set oor herts alow Translates in English as: Fair falls the light that hails the dawn and disperses the darkness from one and all You banish every care away and set our hearts on fire
@scottfraesangsters How cool to hear a verse in Scots.Distant yank here but I hear the same translation. I'm into 40 years on the Highland pipes and 30's with Irish pipes. Every least note in a melody is live-or-die for those of us who play, and I'm not sure I've yet found the ultimate best line for this song, but this performance is superb.Christy O'Leary has also been a fine uilleann piper.
I love Kathy Mattea's version, but this blew my socks off! Absolutely beautiful.

Can anyone translate the verse Karine Polwart sings? I understand some parts, but not all and would love to get the message in her words. Thanks.
