I've really enjoyed all these comparisons to the GT-R, and don't really understand the negative reaction I get from pro's that are coaching drivers. Does anyone know if Nissan produces a factory race car, stripped out and lighter, roll cage, etc with the GT-R?
@jwiz4444 - Nissan informed us recently that it will produce a new 'track focused' variant of the latest 542 bhp 2013 GT-R but they have yet to announce its configuration. We might find out more during this week's Tokyo Motor Show, but we're expecting they will delete the rear seats, remove some of standard creature comforts and use fixed race bucket seats with a 3-point harness..
Anyone who has driven one or neither of the cars needs to think very carefully before commenting. because (like me) that means you know nothing about the difference between how both cars feel.
This comparison looks promisingly neutral until you find out the driver(who narrated as well) is a porsche Cup racer and also sponsored by Porsche even in this very situation where they provided the car for him to drive. So this says a lot.
@vitessemeister I just bought the last EVO ( with Harris as a driver-journaliste in it) and he try the last Audi R8 GT3, despite the fact he is a Porsche Cup Racer, he says that the Audi is better than his own Porsche so I think we can say he is VERY neutral!
@Kheops63 He can say whatever he wants in the Audi, because it's not relevant to this comparison at all. I'm not favouring any car here, I'm just being analytical. Given the fact that the GT2 is given officially, the way he is sponsored etc. I reckon those word are not neutral enough. You may think the opposite (because you are a Porsche fanyboy based on your comments I've seen before), but either way the most neutral way is cars picked from showroom, and driven by neither connections.
I can't imagine how many laps you have to do to learn this long track. Then you do it in different cars. I don't think many people on here know what that takes. Thumbs up to you and both cars.
Porsche naturally wins... more powerfull, less weight...more car RWD.
And not the Porsche is more expensive. The nissan is it cheaper because if they were closer, few people would buy a Nissan instead of a Ferrari or Porsche. And more, porsche has better build quallity and more fun to more..

But for its price point you have to give Nissan proper dues for creating one hell of a machine. I'll take one of each. "
Having driven many miles in both cars I was surprised just how similar they feel. Contrary to your expectation of the GT-R it feels lightweight and stripped out (like the GT2), the engines even behave similarly in response to the throttle, albeit with the GT2 pulling more strongly at the top-end.
You can't help coming away from such a comparison being impressed with how good the GT-R performs given that it is less than 'half' the price' of the GT2.
@CitizenSlide : BS - They couldn't be more different. The GTR doesn't "feel" like anything, as the driver aids are doing all the work. You sir are full of it.
Only 7 seconds for twice money? hahaha!!! ;D It isn't good deal ;D GT-R is better! GT2' s engine doesn't work so clean like in the Nissan. And Nissan is more practical.
There is something you don't understand, the track was wet and the RWD GT2 won against the AWD GTR: this mean a lot! He also say that he did his best with the GTR and this would be very hard to do better BUT he also said that he hasn't got enough skills to use the full potential of the GT2 so think about it!!
Bullshit. GT2's engine is cleaner. The exhaust air is cleaner than the air entering the engine. Everybody knows Porsche makes the cleanest engines, only you don't...
GTR is heavyer...cos it have been moded by most of gtr users. It is like Harely Davidson....nobody drive without mod's. Body can take 1000hp and more and all safety and comfort features add weight too. I think Nissan did good job while they are all-kind auto maker to compete with 100% sports car maker.
The body, maybe, BUT the gearbox, clutch and drivetrain can't! More than this, on the R35, unlike the R32.R33,R34, you can't change turbos so for the 1000hp, we will see this in 10 years...

Stupid comparison, imo. The Porsche costs over $100000 more than the GTR. The fact that the GTR is able to put down such a solid lap time puts the Germans to shame. I'm sorry, but 100 grand to shave off less than 7 seconds (less than 1% difference between the two times) is ridiculous.
its cool mate...any gtr is awesome but if you want a GTR that feels more like a porsche you better change ur name to tango32 cos thats the best of the bunch...at the moment i drive a 99 mod 34 but when i sell it im going back to a 32...

@vitaobatera7:55 is not a horrible time...have you even been on nurburgring? Its not as fast as 7:2x records for these cars, but its very fast. These laps werent done by prof. drivers in cars they're allowed to destroy for the sake of setting a lap record.

@Blitz3086 dont be stupid.. nissan used porsche turbo as a baseline for performance.. not for technology,.. you will probably find very little is similar between to the two cars systems
@steflotti105 No, actually, technically the are both similar, 911 turbo and GTR that is. They're both 4WD, they're both turbocharged 6 cylinders, they both have dual cluth automatic gearboxes, both packed with technology. And the key point is, GTR came AFTER the 911 turbo. They're both amazing cars, but every reviewer says that GTR feels artificial and not fun, and 911's have always been known to be the most fun cars to drive. For every day use I'd get the GTR, but for tracks I'd go for GT2.
Porshe cars are lightyears ahead of Nissan. Nissan act like they have something to prove, whereas Porsche have dominated on the road and more importantly, on the track for the last 40 years +

since you mention my name I might as well clear somethings up.
I apologise for being a bit agressive, but I never said Porsche is not the best cars ever made. But sometimes I do really can't help talking to people saying Nissan did fake laps claiming to be quicker than the Turbo because Porsche couldn't do it, thus why I mention Bruno Senna, as a FACT, to those opinions back.
yea the 2002 911 does rock and you didn't think I was going to say that because you think I was a fanboy. BTW R34>R35
If you read the article on DRIVER REPUBLIC, you will see that the track was wet...and don't forget that the GT2 is a RWD monster with 530hp BUT it is faster than a sophisticated AWD GTR which must win in these conditions. Another interesting thing: after this lap, the GTR brakes were out, the GT2 ones were OK...you got what you pay for and Nissan, despite the fact I loved the R33 and R34 are liars! nobody can lap the Ring in 7.29 with a stock R35.
Porsche have never lied concerning its cars lap time on the Ring, Nissan does, and from 25s, which is huge....and I think Porsche will sell more GT2 than Nissan will sell VSPEC or even GTR...
what you fail to realize is that porsche has fallen behind as well. thats why they have gotten to pety to where they have called nissan "liars" about the GT-R's time.
nissan is the only makers supplying a video then chevy did it as well. where is porsche and their vid? of coursethey dont want to be further embarassed that their flagship is getting beat by a "nissan"
Yes Nissan is a liar. The GTR actually produces around 550hp. This is why it can beat a 480 hp Turbo which is lighter and more aero. Against cars with the same power numbers the GTR's weight shows. Nissan has admited they used cup tires for that 7 sec. run.
People are dynoing the GTR between 450 and 500 to the wheels that is somewhere at least 550 at the crank maybe more.
What doesnt make sense about 2 cars having nearly the same perfomance in 0-60 and top speed. Both have 6 speeds, gives an idea that the gear ratios are at least close, but the Turbo is 400lbs lighter and more drag efficient. The only explanation is the GTR has much more than 480 hp. The dynos prove it. Laws of physics dont lie. Only advantage GTR has is shifting times.
the last I've heard is people dynoed 507hp to the fly (406 to the wheels), but which they found it's 485hp in a more accurate dyno...(so can you provide some source of where you heard that?). Also I didn't hear that Nissan admit they used cup tyres. and to Kheops63. I'm not trying to talk BS. I'm just trying to add argument about porsche's time. Because it's strange that porsche lapped a turbo quicker than a GTR and a GP2 driver did it in the other way round (REGARDLESS of this video).
You could be right. I personally dont care about the Ring times because there are no set rules in place in order to keep the time sheets in perspective.
Like i said... its not only the dyno.. The laws of physics dont lie. I am waiting for someone to tell me how the GTR could have such low drive losses and the porsche dont when they have very simular gearing. Tell how a 400 lbs weight addition keeps with a car that is almsot identical in power and gearing.
to be honest I really want to hire someone like sabine or anyone that neither side do the laptimes and settle this once and for all. I don't quite rely on this video much.
That would be a way to settle it. But it would be really hard to find truly unbias opinions. I think it should be a pro driver who has never raced or owned from either company and doesnt know the ring like there own hand.
to all the people who complain that the porsche is too expensive, you should start thinking about what you pay for.....nissan is still some shitty car and it will probably break down after 12 years.... nobody seems to know about the fact that over 70% of all porsche that have ever been build are still on the road these days......so start thinking about it.....you can`t compare quality with some rubbish produced product.
Yea that was when Porsche can't even lap it faster than a turbo. But the funny thing is, Bruno Senna (GP2 driver) lap the GTR quicker than a turbo in 5th gear show...
5th gear don't stage like top gear and Bruno can drive for sure. So what happened to porsche? I'd like to know...
Go and read the entire test, the track was WET and despite of this, they ran faster with the RWD GT2 than with the AWD R35, and another important thing is that, after one lap, R35 brakes were out! Porsche's ones were exactly the same as at the beginning so imagine on a dry track, after 4 or 5 laps...
yes I know that. Chill the fuck out. I'm just adding an argue point for those who just yap about Nissan did it with fake tyres. My arguement has nothing to do with GT2.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That's a porsche driver. he wasnt driving the r35 as hard as he should have. compare it to the 7:29 video and u can see wat i mean. Porsche driver=fail! wat a wuss.
Did you actually listen to the description of the lap ? Agreed there are different styles off driving for different cars, but under the conditions Chris did a very good job. Mind you, you could probably go faster in your civic/nova etc...
Great video/test Chris! When it comes down to the general opinion (not mine) though it's all to do with the badge. To say that you own a Porsche means a whole lot more than when you say you've got a Nissan.
Great comments Chris; good to hear someone praise Nissan's achievement and mention the notable price difference despite the GT2's performance. Would rather see the GTR up against a GT3 though (before the 997 MkII comes out).

7:29 wasn't did with stock tires. Nobody in an independent media has obtained under 7:50 time with the GTR. Nissan=Liars.
